Half a million on a surprise drop is feasible. And it wasn't really that much of a surprise considering people were already thirsty for a project. They just didn't know they'd have to pay for it.

That's funny cause I think take care if by far his best work and if he had the unreleased tracks on there it wouldn't even be close. Upon first listen, this tape is average to me. Not bad, not good either.

Yeah, back when NWTS came out I had that argument with a lot of people, but like in the Kanye thread to each his own.

The fact I can't stop playing this after hating on Drake pretty hard says a lot though, and has me listening to some older Drake too.

I mean, maybe to people who follow drake or are somewhat inundated with the culture, it wasn't a surprise to them but the majority had no clue at all that Drake had an album on the horizon.

I defintiely had no idea that the Beyonce surprise album would have this much of a ripple effect in the culture. J. Cole announces his release date like two weeks in advance, and the results where incredible for him. Big Sean just did something similar with his forthcoming album, and it appears it's going to work for Drake too. More than the surprise album, Cole and Drake didn't even drop singles from their albums before dropping it. Game changers for sure and it'll be interesting to see moving forward to see just how thorough of a change this strategy will have on the industry.

S shoeking2101 Drake is nowhere near those artists. He has one or two 2X Platinum albums. Highest first week has been 600K. Very impressive numbers but nothing like Adele or Swift.

400-500 is impressive. Not surprised at all. What I've realized with these releases are people just want to be a part of it. I knew a few people that could have downloaded it for free but wanted to buy it. It's just the hype of it all.

His highest was closer to 700k than 600k but If he's doing half a million plus in 3 days with no promotion, then he's definitely in that stratosphere. He may not be right on their level, but he's right there, like right below them. 500k units in 3 days with no hard copies is beyond impressive. I would put him in that air.

And you are right, that's part of the benefit of dropping your album in this type of fashion. The hype behind the surprise drives sales. It's that "I don't wanna be left out, I wanna see what all the hype is about" effect.

I was really referring to once it dropped. If you have at least one form of social media you have seen this tape mentioned by now. Most of my boys dont use the internet like I do so I relay info but by mid day friday it was all people were talking about.

We're talking about the biggest rapper in the world right now outside of Kanye.

Unless they live under a rock...its safe to say that people know Drake has a new album out.

He was never really known for just his raps. 

Point blank...he's a megastar. It can be one's opinion that his raps "fell off"...but there's more to an artist's overall package ****** than just their raps...and Kanye hasn't lost a step in the grand scheme.

But after 2 Days, this is easily my favorite project from Drake....

And I just realized I've downloaded Drake project since Comeback Season released. They've all had gems here and there, but this, I can play almost all the way through front to back.
