🦉The Official Drake Thread6️⃣ - Scary Hours 3 11.17.23

Nothing on NWTS is close to being on par with "New Slaves"

With that said, both albums were let downs outside of a few tracks.

IMO Kanye's was more progressive (even if the sounds already existed)

Drakes was...Typical Drake.

Interview was prolly boring, and generic af, puttin the writer to sleep. Then Drake spits his thought off record and the writers gets geeked over some interesting material.

“It’s like Hov can’t drop bars these days without at least four art references. I would love to collect at some point, but I think the whole rap/art world thing is getting kind of corny.”

Drake a wild boy lol. I agree tho... N all them thoughts bout Ye. ( That fab jab was left field to me tho... I pray Fab says something. Please! I need the entertainment) But he woulda been that dude if has said, Yea I said it off the record. But so what. Just my opinion. Them still my brothers.... I woulda gained a whole new respect for him (RS shouldn't have used it but You can get mad at your own words).
He can be mad at the lack of integrity of RS, but Im sure he knows this stuff happened all the time, so he should've protected/ prepared himself.

Fab can't even be mad, he know damn well he says some of the corniest bars of anybody rapper out here.

Doesn't mean his early mixtape work isn't classic though.

But it's the 5 year anniversary of the greatest mixtape of all time today though :pimp: :pimp:
There is no Competition? SFG had Best I Ever Had on it :x

It's definitely up there though. That tape is a classic.

How can you compare an album to a single?
I probably should've explained myself better.

But New Slaves is one of those revolutnionary type songs. Drake didn't have anything like that on NWTS. I know a single cant carry the album.

When i compare the albums though since they were both lackluster as a whole, I've gotta see what else can you can objectively compare with the two pieces of work.

As much as i like Drake's music, he hasn't done anything musically to push the genre forward.

I like innovation when it comes to artist, and i never get that feeling with Drake. He truly is the jack of all trades master of none.

Edit- Just saw Koudies post. His stuff will lift a dudes spirit on the lowest days.

And I find it funny Drake said Macklemore can get away with stuff he can't.

Drake could have made "Same Love" and nobody would have thought anything of it just like how he made that trash *** "No Guns" song and kept it moving.

He was able to rock off "No Guns" because that was with Snoop...

...Drake can make a "Hold On..." and Jeezy/YG/Keef/Rondo can't, but all that "that's that Elton John ****" means he couldn't make a "Same Love" IMO.

I agree with everyone saying that he has a fair reason to be mad since his comments were off the record, but that he is hypocritical in his response to the situation considering what he said about Macklemore. He should have handled it like HTG said up there. He's been having an issue with expressing himself well consistently since he started Nothing Was the Same's promo run. Straight foot in the mouth ****

Aubrey's my ___, I hate it had to be him :smh:

Koudie appearance is always appreciated too :pimp:

Tough Day At The Office
With today being the 5th anniversary of So Far Gone I figured it's fitting to return to it's place of its origin in order to clear the air about an extremely emotional day. I completely support and agree with Rolling Stone replacing me on the cover with the legendary Phillip Seymour Hoffman. He is one of the most incredible actors of our time and a man that deserves to be immortalized by this publication. My frustration stemmed from the way it was executed. The circumstances at hand are completely justifiable (on the magazines behalf), but I was not able to salvage my story or my photos and that was devastating. They ran the issue without giving me a choice to be in it or not. I would have waited until it was my time because I understand the magnitude of the cover they chose but I just wasn't given that option and that made me feel violated. I apologize to anybody who took my initial comments out of context because in no way would I ever want to offend the Hoffman family or see myself as bigger than that moment. I am still the same person. Today I was forced out of my character and felt the need to react swiftly. These days are the worst ones. Waking up after a great night in the studio and it's your day to be picked apart. After dwelling on it for a few hours or days you will come to the conclusion that you brought it on yourself almost every time. So here I am having that moment. I once again apologize to everybody who took my cover comments the wrong way. I respect Rolling Stone for being willing to give a kid from Toronto a shot at the cover. I guess this is a day to learn and grow.

Sincerely,

The Boy

Let me just say that I think this is false in terms of pushing the genre forward, lacking innovation and being a jack of all trades and master of none.

C'mon man. Think about that. Dude is basically sitting in his own lane right now in terms of being able to do an R+B record for one single (Just Hold On...) and then flip it with something like "Worst Behavior" right after that.

Plus, he pretty much put on for his city.

Drake and Cudi were doing all the revolutionary **** we credit Kanye for on 808's + Heartbreaks.....before 808's and Heartbreaks. And I won't even get into how Diddy's "Last Night" laid some of that groundwork too.

As for him being in Kanye's shadow, Kanye has been out MUCH longer than Drake. So obviously Drake is still catching up. But to say Drake is in Kanye's "shadow" given how wildly successful Drake is right now is also a bit much IMO.

Drake a jack of all trades master of none?

Drake is without a doubt, a master songwriter. He can write R&B and Rap #1's, nobody else in music is doing that for you. Like illphillip just said, Hold On We're Going Home to Worst Behavior, nobody else has that type of range.

Who else is making impactful records with Migos and Sampha?

Come on man, Drake starting to get that Bron type of hate where you're so good that people start nitpicking.
