🦉The Official Drake Thread6️⃣ - Scary Hours 3 11.17.23

As hard as I **** with Party, I think he would have to show more of his vocal range for this opinion to be well-supported. Like, after listening to some of the Jahron B joints I can see the potential, but Drake is eating son's food in terms of songwriting and range on R&B tracks.

Since you are clearvoyant, are you trying to take a guess at when we'll be getting some new Party by the way? :nerd:

Nah I was being bias, Drake is for sure the better R&B artist. He has a stronger vocal and has much more depth when it comes to his songwriting. However, I do prefer PND's r&b than Drake's. But that's just a personal preference though. You can definitely hear PND's influence though on Drake's r&b when you hear records like 305, Own it, Come Thru, Days In the east, like those sound like PND records.

And PND is dropping this summer with "Ferina"
Drake does not have better vocals than PND.

They both can't hit no notes

Weekend trumps them all when it comes to singing.

Drake makes better RNB then party imo

Y'all really sleep if you think Drake can't "sing." He may not be able to "sang," but he's grown considerably as a singer

Never said Drake can't sing. I said PND has better vocals. And drake still strains live when he performs. Same thing can be said about The Dream. He can sing and he sounds good. His vocals aren't that strong though and you can tell by his live performances.

Yikes at all the "____ would body Drake in a lyrical competition" talk.

Drake is as soft as a late summer breeze, yeah, but he can rap his *** off.  What in the past 5 years leads you to believe anyone alive today would "body" him? Let alone a rapper with one "good mixtape's worth" of material?

Sure there are MCs that can best him in a straight up rap competition, there's no question about that... but what about what Drake or anyone else has been doing leads you to believe he'd get "bodied"?

Why do you guys keep on with this Hov vs Drake nonsense?  Jay bigged him up before he had an album, has been on several features, and according to Drake, is probably HIS CLOSEST ALLY in the industry.  Yes, the lines were BLATANTLY for one another, it's hardly debatable.  But, no, it's not a thing that will ever get any more serious than you just heard on Draft Day.

And we've heard other Drake subliminals and disses.  Remember when he tried to get Kendrick?  :rolleyes It's not his thing.

Drake floated all over that Draft Day joint.  The beat is pure and he's actually rapping and doing it well.

For the record, I'm a big fan of Drake's music, but I actually enjoy Chance and AcidRap better than anything Drake's ever done.  Also think he, like most rappers, would body Drake in any sort of lyrical diss competition.  Again, Just me, though.  You're all welcome to your own opinions.

I agree with all this except the stuff about Chance. Battle rapping/dissing is clearly not Drakes thing. The way he acted after Kendrick's verse says it all. He ain't built for that.

I'm not a Drake stan.  I'm the equivalent to Drake that @illphillip is to Kanye. I ***** with him, but I'm not blinded.

That said, Drake has shown through consistency that he's a great rapper. You can say rapper x would best him in a battle but "body him"?

Body him how? Nas Ethered Jay-Z but did that body him? Unless we're talking about what G-Unit did to Ja Rule, I don't think people in here understand what it means to "body" someone.

You're all using it about as accurately as Drake does when he threatens to "catch a body."

You thinking too hard man. Bodied doesn't mean you destroy someone's whole career bro.

Everybody's talking about somebody clearly, getting the best of him on a diss track. I can name 20 rappers alive that would body him/eat his food/kill him.

Care to list some?

Care to list some?

Andre
Big Boi
Raekwon
Gza
Kendrick
Eminem
Nas
Jay (if he raps how we know he can)

So there, that's a few. Drake is great. He's a great rapper, amazing songwriter, good singer. But that just isn't his thing...it would be very easy for him to get ate up.

A lot of the outside world's perception of that would be swayed by popularity, sales, blah blah blah...but I'm not talking about that.

I was just curious. I wasn't defending drake.

It'd be crazy if Drake had an album that generally sounded like "Draft Day", meaning a old school 2006 Drake feel, old samples, straight rap. I can imagine how chill "Draft Day" will sound in the summer with the windows down, sunroof open

I wouldn't want an album full of joints like Draft Day or "06 Drake". He's the best songwriter in hip hop right now, I wanna hear him make songs and write amazing hooks which is where his mastery shines. He drops enough tracks where he's strictly rapping already around every album drop.

drake is not touching timberlake in the r&b department and i like his r&b although it can get whiny at times

Timberlake doesn't even write his own songs, James Fauntleroy does. He does sing better but that doesn't mean his music sounds better or he's the better artist.

Drake's writing > Fauntleroy's.

idk man i like the sound of a lot of drakes r&b its his actual lyrics that turn me off at times.

All of this. He's grown so much that to neglect a large portion of his area of growth for an entire project would be a terrible idea in my opinion.
