Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. She was a poor Southern tobacco farmer who worked the same land as her slave ancestors, yet her cells—taken without her knowledge—became one of the most important tools in medicine. The first “immortal

Wow, very good read. This is the first I've heard of her. It's sad that someone of such importance never knew how important they were. The family, if any is left, should be fighting this in court. Would love to read the book and see the movie.

Awesome story. An episode of Law and Order was loosely based on this. This has Hollywood hit written all over it. I wonder why no big studios developed a script for it.

Good looking out OP. Nice to come on NT and read something "different". I never even heard about her, I plan to learn more about her now.

, at the treatment and the disrespect they gave to her legacy and future generations.

I hope she'll be recognized or have a holiday in her honor and give her a proper burial rights. This is the least they could do for her and her family.

Very, very interesting. Almost hard to believe I never heard of this before and even harder to believe her cell line has been involved with some of the biggest projects of the last century...which leads me to be skeptical of such claims. Still, it is pretty interesting.
