Don't buy anything. Even you think the price is good for your wallet in the the long run any HP or Dell will give you trouble. Consumer Laptops aren't durable for one bit, Thats why you have to buy a Durable machine that is made out of aluminum or hi-grade plastics.

Out of all 4, The Toshiba Has the most advance technology. Core i5, WiMAX, Nvidia Graphics Optimums Switching, with good battery life. 2nd is the Samsung which is very durable made out of aluminum has the Core i5 and Nvidia Graphics but its not switchable. 3rd is Asus which makes reliable motherboards, has core i3 but its low voltage won't give you the power that you need but give extended battery life and has The Optimums Switching and also lightweight and durable made out of aluminum . Last is Sony, is last has only 256mb which is not really enough and its a late model, plus couldn't find that is suitable in your price range, but they do have a killer laptop thats a power horse that cost 1,349.

If anything I might be posting some more laptops, if you have any questions let me know or PM me.

Wow, thanks for the help!

This is the info I was looking for.  I'm definitely gonna invest in a better computer like a MBP or something with a core i5/i7 processor, but for now I'm looking for something that'll keep me afloat for the next 1-2 years and isn't too expensive.  I was checking out Toshibas earlier and this confirmed what I was thinking, so it'll either be that one or the Asus.  Thanks again for the help man, really appreciate it!

I used to own a SONY VAIO and I loved it too but after the MAC I was like SONY WHO.. I gave my sony to my sister and I DO NOT MISS IT AT ALL. Mac is definitely full of win

how can you make that list of reputable companies, and not include Lenovo ThinkPads?

Probably because nobody wants businessy looking computers with the little blue ball in the middle, no matter how powerful

And that guy asked for something in the 700-800$ and now you have him talking about a MBP with an i5/i7? That's going to run about 2 stacks.

I just went ahead and copped that Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q710 for 500. It's actually more than what I need and probably not ultimately going to be my final final choice if one of these auctions falls my way, but I'm good for now. I don't even game, but it's just an if it's out then I need it type of mentality with the gpu and fastest cpus available.

And I agree with Alchemist Vaios are OD overrated. I know that Squaretrade warranty graph has them #1 or 2, but that plastic is cheap as $$+@ and feels like it's bending when you palm it in your hand and I had the i7 VPC series which isn't cheap, they run about 1300$

I'm really considering building myself a laptop off a barebones kit. Dude on eBay has a barebones Alienware kit, but I don't want to get in over my head and end up with 1000$+ in hardware and mess it up or not know what to do with everything. Don't know why but I'm on the Alienware hype right now, don't know why. They're actually kind of ugly save for the multi color backlit keyboards.

I think I have had 7 or 8 laptops just this yr alone, I can never make up my mind or be satisfied.

it's red, and the TrackPoint (pointing stick) is IMO superior to a trackpad.

and who wouldn't want a ThinkPad?
it's a viable, classy looking option with a top-rate keyboard that has been built with quality materials since its inception.

They just remind me too much of the Army computers we use here and I hate the form factor. I'd take one free though, then flip it and buy something with a better look. They (Lenovo) aren't very high in the Laptop Reliability rankings, but likely because of their consumer line like the G460s and %%$$ not holding up as well as their business line of Thinkpads do

They remind me too much of the Army laptops we use here and I hate the heavy, square, bulky form factor. We use those, Dell D610s, and Dell Lattitude E6500s if you're lucky enough to get a new one. The new E6500s are a bit sleeker looking. I'd rock one. This Thinkpad X200 is cute though

either a core i5 MBP or another laptop with a core i5/i7 processor unless something better comes out by then for under $2k

.  Thanks!

EDIT: Here's some cliff notes...

- Looking for a laptop for college.
- $600-$700 price range (Possibly $800).
- Must be able to handle programs like AutoCAD. (engineering drafting/design programs.)
- Currently a Physics/Engineering major, but considering Computer Science. (not sure how it helps, but in case someone is familiar with those majors.)
- Good graphics card.
- A lot of internal memory and decent ram.

Honestly if you want a investment on a product a Macbook Pro gives you the Best Value out of any PC computer. I'm a Macbook owner myself, but i still believe some PC computer will still you better hardware performance than a Mac can offer.

In 2010 all laptops should have 4gb of ddr3 ram, its efficient and consumes less energy. 500gb is more than enough, Battery life is also important 4-6hrs will do, but it depends on the processor.

Intel Core i3 is just a Core 2 duo that has virtual cores, this you'll find in a mainstream laptop, but it won't give you the power if the programs you'll use is really intensive.

Core i5/i7 with turbo boost is what any Carrer minded consumer who will use it for home and work, and actually do something intensive and produce material like you are instead of checking your facebook.

Graphics card is also important cause the internet will soon be switching to GPU Power and its all ready occurring.

Here are some laptops that Best Buy sells and some of them i'll recommend for you. Type in the SKU ID INTO THE SEARCH BAR ON BESTBUY.COM LINKING DOESN'T WORK PROPERLY, or i just don't know how to do it properly.

Samsung - Laptop / Intel[emoji]174[/emoji] Core[emoji]8482[/emoji] i5 Processor / 14" Display / 4GB Memory / 500GB Hard Drive - Black Aluminum Model: Q430-11 | SKU: 9973019

Sony - VAIO Laptop with Intel[emoji]174[/emoji] Core[emoji]8482[/emoji] i3 Processor - Black Model: VPCCW2MGX/B | SKU: 9748868

HP fanboys? unheard of...lol. I've own plenty of computers and HP is one of them not trusted and unreliable , HP computer has the worst quality control computer products they sell to average consumers, they offer bargain buys thats why people say HP is good cause there price point on selling computers is tempting. Example: A toshiba that sells for like $700 with a great specs, and HP that sell for like $400 and has great specs as well. You'll mind will drift to the one that is "cheaper". Toshiba laptops are top notch quality they make there own hardrive's and cd drives they are the real pioneer of computer laptops. HP Source there products from 3rd party sources, they find the least inexpensive route to produce the products and make abundant of them. They will use AMD cause its cost effective never intel cause it will cost them more, and you'll pay for the added cost . I work at Best Buy in Geek Squad, one time im opening computers to make restore cd's mulitiple HP computer had open compartments revealing the heat sink and the ram. I've seen this 40+ times, also blue screen of death to brand new Hp computers.

I Can find a article in which HP and Acer are in a arms race who can manufacture the most computer products within a year. Thats terrible you make to much products quality decreases, and you buy a shotty product that only gonna last you 1-2 years.

if you really want to save on using less power look for laptops with amd motherboards./quote]

What? AMD processors are battery hogs, and are unreliable if its not a hi-end AMD don't even look at it in a laptop if does't cost more than $900, intel rules king of power management. Asus motherboards are known world wide #1 trusted motherboard with tweaking abilities if your and over clocker, on both AMD and Intel Processors.

Customer service, I don't know of. However Asus has best company warranty for laptops they don't give you a limited warranty, its full coverage when you buy a Asus laptop, they give 1 year accidental damgage with dead pixel damage. HP...NO! just 1yr limited if its defective and its not covered if the damage is inflicted by the owner, and you'll have buy there warranty if you want to be covered.

Dude HP is garage, I'll will never recommend HP, NEVER!.

NEVER BUY A HP COMPUTER, video explains why.

Upset Man Breaks Laptop In HP Computer Store!

Yes I should have mention Thinkpads, sliped my mind.
