Neymar is said to have chosen to join Real Madrid ahead of Chelsea and Barcelona but Santos president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro remains hopeful of retaining the player until at least 2012.

Five clubs meet Neymar clause

Ribeiro revealed this week that five clubs - said to be Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City and Anzhi Makhachkala - had agreed to meet Neymar's €45 million release clause but that he was confident Neymar would stay on.

Ribeiro has now suggested that Inter Milan may be among the clubs showing an interest in Neymar, but Marca claims the 19-year-old has told Brazil team-mate Dani Alves at the Copa America: "I don't know anything about Barcelona. I will play for Madrid next season." However, Ribeiro still believes Neymar will want to stay put until the conclusion of December's Club World Cup tournament in Japan.

He told RAC1: "Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter Milan - all the big clubs are interested in Neymar because he is an exceptional player, but my intention is that he will stay with us at least until we meet Barcelona in the final.

"We don't want to lose him until the centenary [Santos were founded in April 1912] but it all depends on him, on what he wants to do. Remember that there is a release clause in his contract."

He added: "It's obvious given all the interest that the release clause is small in comparison to the player's true value."

Ribiero confirmed he has held conversations with both Barca president Sandro Rosell and Madrid counterpart Florentino Perez.

"I asked Sandro not to make contact with Neymar or his father before the Copa Libertadores final, but then I had to tell him to make his move because the other European clubs were already moving," he said. "Sandro is a gentleman, very friendly, a great professional and a great president.

"I spoke to Florentino directly and Real Madrid expressed an interest in the player. That's public."

Santos coach Muricy Ramalho had earlier said that Neymar would be making a mistake if he were to play under Jose Mourinho.

"He's a top star, a player who can improvise. You never know what he's going to do - he's unpredictable. Mourinho, though, is very tactics-based - focusing on not letting opponents play and closing the space. I have doubts about how well it would work out with Real Madrid."

He added: "Imagine Messi and Neymar together..."

Mourinho focuses a lot on tactical work and he does not like letting the rivals play, I don't know if he [Neymar] will have freedom at Madrid," Ramalho told Esporte Interactivo.

For some reason, I seriously doubt that he is only 16.

And as for Neymar, he could be the next Ronaldo, but he could also turn out to be the next Robinho.

What a #!@%!# joke of a 'club' Arsenal is...actually it's an insult to other football clubs to associate Arsenal with them. Unlike other clubs that operate to win and make money, Arsenal only operate to make money. Good riddance to Clichy, but selling 2 of your top 3 players for what reason? How exactly is selling 2 of your best players supposed to make you any better? Anyone that thinks Arsenal are going to reinvest most of this money into new players is naive as +#!@. Arsenal will be fighting for 4th next season and could find themselves out of the top 4 in a few years time. I feel sorry for Wenger, this guy wants to win as badly as anyone but the people running the club only care about finishing top 4 and cashing in on CL, player transfer, property revenue. Meanwhile Wenger is forced to sell his best players, spend no more than 5m net expenditure on new players and then face the media pressure every single day and act like everything at the Emirates is fine and dandy.

No matter what Arsenal does this summer, I guarantee 1000000000000% that they wont compete for anything other than the Carling Cup next season and chances are their trophyless run will continue beyond this coming season. What a joke. Selling your absolute best player while he's still in his prime and selling your 2nd or 3rd best player because you're unwilling to pay him the extra 1m a year he is requesting.

Like I've said itk at the Spurs boards basically say Modders is staying.
If Levy sells Modric, Redknapp will be disappointed, Bale will most likely leave, supporters will be up in arms.
i.e. Levy is a good businessman, he knows he can't sell Modric, if it happens I'll be extremely gutted

edit: City to bid £20 million along with £180k/week wages for Nasri
