NT, real talk... Indian mascots?? Yes or no?? vol. Seminoles, ********, Indians, etc...

I live in Oklahoma where we have the highest population of remaining Native Americans around and they do quite well actually, especially the ones who are involved in the tobacco, casinos, and land. But for the rest of them, they still get a form of reparations, scholarships, they have their own hospital not far from where I live, but I agree about the logos potentially being offensive.

Every once in while you ever hear a story about an apparently white person who finds out that despite not looking it, he is above the threshold % Native American to recieve the benefits listed above and there's somewhat of an uproar.

Yeah, because Norwegians have really had a tough time.
Their culture was destroyed and nearly erased and their people were raped and killed by Christians that now wear a uniform with a viking visage on it.

They make a mockery of everyones culture and have found a way to monetize their destruction of original (aboriginal means to abhor =hate original) people.

But I guess I need to stop hating on people that "make money"
Vikings were persecuted like 1000 years ago, right? In Europe? I don't know anything about it, just googled it quickly.
That's not really the same thing as Native Americans being killed/tortured/pillaged as recently as 100 years ago by America itself. Plus there are still tons of natives around that are forced to view this mockery of their culture... not sure how many vikings are still around living in poverty. No disrespect, but I don't really see it as the same.

Yeah it's really not the same but the trend off of creating commercial entities off of past conquest seems to be a recurring theme though when I look at it . To other cultures, and even cultures in close continental proximity. I see what your saying though.

Well being the significant other of a Cherokee American Indian male hes made it clear to me he's not too fond of those mascots and compares it to black face in a way.
It's not number one on his list though. The white people where he lives who show no respect for his families land are what bothers him most.
They deal with self entitled people all the time who build barely outside of their reservation just to intimidate and agitate them.

I totally agree that it's not a priority... but changing the mascots is a small step in the right direction.

Imagine the situation being reversed and caucasians being the ones on reservations and having to look at this...

I am always glad people bring the Hella Tight Whites campaign. I thought it was a great execution of a mascot done the other way around. Shout out to those Berkeley heads that help put that altogether. Here is some photos from the set they did:

I know for Florida State, the Seminole Tribe in Florida officially supports the use of imagery, symbols, and even provides the attire for Chief Osceola and Renegade for sporting events.

I've never looked at all as offensive stereotypes, that's never been the case here at FSU.  But for some, like the Indians and ********, it's definitely offensive and in bad taste.
