Reading initials reviews I think I am sticking with my M8 for a while.
real talk..I think the m8 would be a better buy even after the m9 releases. $$ wise and seeing that the screen and battery life are supposedly better on the m8 as well.

I don't feel like HTC cameras are bad. They're decent shooters. They're just not as good as they can be.

shrug.

HTC disappointed with the M9. Hopefully they can come back next year with the M10.

Yeah, that M9 is not impressive at all. Interesting they went with the 1080p screen when the industry standard will be QHD soon. I like 1080p screens but cmon HTC :smh:

Still OP2 or S6 Edge for me

Industry standard should honestly be 2k rn. Batteries ain't catching up to the energy consumption of 4k screens. All new gen phone battery lives looking abymsal.

I would rather have a nice 1080p screen rather than a QHD screen that comes with more compromises (for a 199 on contract phone) but yeah I feel you.

And the price of QHD panels should have decreased :nerd:

1080 screens are fine for now. Eats up your battery anyway.

If I remember correctly.. About a week. Their website tracker said pending for a few days then all the sudden it was delivered to my doorstep

The hate for HTC is strong. Im not real sure why...

First. Those pic comparisons on that chinese site show me the m9 camera is MORE than i even expected. The shots arnt as good as the s6 but you could argue the colors are more natural. The sharpness and detail is 100000x fold over the m8 (which admittedly is impossible not to be) but all and all its solid. Folks that didnt cop an m8 and wanted one why wouldnt u grab an m9?

Just because Samsungs product is REALLY good doesnt make HTCs bad.

I'm with you. If you have like an M7 or something else the m9 ould be a worthwhile purchase. If you have the m8. I think its better off just waiting.

I wasn't anticipating anything to blow me away with the M9. But was checking to see if anything was worthwhile "upgrading".

You know there's no in-between on NT lol.  Its either the best or the worst

"Change in screen saturation" = "OMG they are putting a black and white screen on a phone in 2015???"

Very true.

However, regression in battery life really isn't acceptable, IMO. That's like selling me a new version of a sports car that's slower.
Photos show Oppo bezelless display in the flesh
Just a few hours ago, we received an exclusive tip  about Oppo's new display technology which visually eliminated the display bezel. It does so by the use of clever light diffraction, which makes it seems like the display panel extends further sideways than it actually does.
gsmarena_001.jpg

The information we received earlier was of a filed patent and today we found a couple of live photos that seems to show the clever new display technology in an actual device. Now, as far as we can tell, the two shots look real enough and the promised visual effect is definitely there. The accompanying text talks about a 5.5-inch screen size and also mentions that the technology is similar the one used in the Sharp Aquos Crystal.

Looking closer at the first shot, the one in "mid-swipe", it does seem that the numbers and symbols are slightly distorted once they reach the edge of the display, where the illusion takes place. This might simply be due to the change in surface angle or maybe the photo is slightly out of focus. There are some concerns around the technology and how it affects image quality and clarity toward the edges, but it is too early to comment on the matter and the photos are not really enough to go by.

Hopefully, the new technology will allow the manufacturing of edge-to edge screen devices in a cost-efficient manner, so we can see such screens on mid-rangers and even budget phones in the future. As we mentioned in the previous article, the patent is already granted and should be available online within three to six months, so it would be fair to assume, that we might start seeing it employed in actual devices after that.

The unit in both photos looks pretty generic and mostly resembles the Oppo R5, as far as the company's current lineup goes. This, of course, might simply be a coincidence, but it could also signify that the R-lineup will be the first to receive a model with the new screen technology.

What do you think of the photos? Do you think they might contain "traces of Photoshop" and are you excited about what Oppo is developing in general?

Yea I feel you on that

Im waiting until the actual retail devices have been out for a while to pass judgement on battery life though.  Anandtech already said that the battery life has increased alot since the last update, and it seems they are still pushing updates.  This is the same thing that happened with the M7.

Plus, my main question with battery life on any device is, "Will it last me an entire day?".  Other than that, the numbers vary so much and are only what you make em.  Same with those benchmarks.  I want to see some reviews on performance after real-world use.

The camera is pretty cheeks.

The verge comparison pic to the iPhone was pretty embarrassing. 20mp of dew dew..they didn't even bother to add ois..I feel that is necessary these days.

As far as battery life..as long as it gets you from the beginning of your day to the end its good enough

Except this just might be the worst camera on a phone in 2015. Flagship or budget.

Really HTC needed only to do one thing to make the M8 great, and that was to implement a serviceable camera. Looks like they've failed mightily.

In before "wait for the final OTA update!"

All you talk about is the camera.

Curious, is the camera the deciding factor for you when you buy a phone?

It's an important factor yes, but I look at the whole package. Speaking from someone who currently owns a phone with a terrible camera (Nexus 4) and has had said phone for the past 2.5 years, I value a camera that produces decent images. There have been so many memories I would've loved to capture and relive through videos and pictures but haven't been able to capture any of that because the camera is so bad.

And no, I'm not going to carry a dedicated camera with me everywhere I go.

Think you're exaggerating a bit.

It's so bad you can't capture an image to look back at? Nah man. You'd think you were using a camera that turned your photo into a cave painting.

I understand you want a good camera, but saying it can't take pictures that will help you "relive a moment" is ridiculous. Your photos are going to be for yourself and your family, not a national magazine.

From the samples posted, it does just that. Takes good photos.

I have a Moto X btw. It's not a iPhone camera, but it gets the job done and I'm happy with it. That being said, I do carry a DSLR.

Wait you have a Nexus 4?? Now things are making sense lol.  Coming from a Nexus 4, even the M8 camera would blow you away
laugh.gif
.  You are greatly exaggerating if you think any phone out right now wouldnt give you good quality images compared to what you are toting now

.  You had me thinking you was rocking a Lumina the way you been talking in here

.  Coming from what you have, try anything out right now and I promise you will be 10x more satisfied lol.  The gaps in the performance between these current/new devices arent as large as you are making them to be man
