One of the best and worst memories I have of those super snakes was helping drivers park them at my work. Them things caused all kinds of trouble in the parking structure.

Alarms going off people revving them my ears were ringing all day
 
1st time posting in the thread, but I've always kept up with it. My daily driver is a 2002 Toyota Solara. Got this in December with some help from pops. Got rid of the old faded out headlight lens recently.

That plastic wheel well under my front passenger tire got ripped off after a fight with an icy parking spot smh.

Drove home in the rain and took a peak, a few exposed wires and whatnot but is this a repair I have to make relatively soon? Honestly probably woudnt even noticed it was ripped off if didnt check.

thats what im taking about. One of the only v6s that gets my approval. Murica
i know a guy that loves these has about two of them and a typhoon even with all the problems he keeps them. Yours stock? Moar pics?

It's basically stock. Just new exhaust system and k&n cold air intake right now. Have new fuel pump, injectors, chip, and turbo sittng in the garage but haven't had them put on so far. I will get some more pics posted soon. I love GNs, Typhoons, Cyclones, and the '89 turbo Trans Ams. I've still to this day have never seen a typhoon in person

What you're describing can be very expensive. A half decent headunit is gonna run you around $150-200. If you want nice clean and clear sound, components up front would be the way to go, preferably 6.5" if they fit your car. A decent set of those are gonna be around $150. A set of 6x9's would be fine just to provide some rear fill, around $100 for a decent set of those. To really get the most out of those speakers, you'd want to run an amp for them. There's another $150-200 for a decent one. So we're already at $550-650 just in parts, and still no subs, no amp for the subs, no wires needed for installing everything, no labor, and no sub box. However, that would be a REALLY nice, clear, and loud setup.

At the end of the day, it really comes down to your budget. For a very nice, high quality setup, you're looking at around $1000-1100 in parts. Having said that, a lot of people would be really happy with the type of setup I got for my GF, which was around $450. Figure out just how nice a setup you want, and go from there. You can always do it in stages too, do a nice deck, speakers, and a amp for the speakers. Then, later down the road, go all out and get some subs, a box, and amp for the subs. Or, skip on the amp for the speakers, and use that $150-200 towards a sub and an amp instead, and get an amp for the speakers later.

Remember, you can always add on amps and subs later. But definitely start out with a nice headunit and quality speakers, you don't wanna do things twice.

ive been really busy the last couple of days (getting a car on the road will do that) but I GREATLY appreciate this.

the car has 4 speakers 2 in the door and 2 in the back panel (2 door car), the speakers seem decent but the sound gets fuzzy the louder it gets and the bass is about 20% -30% weaker than I would like and the volume could stand to be 10%-20% louder. I kinda feel like a good head unit might go a long way. gonna start with that and go from there.

can I get speakers in my Hyundai Genesis without the headunit? can't I use a stock head unit or even with the converter will it not be good enough?

by speakers i mean like upgrade the regular ones in the rear deck doors type deal not subs to start.

im not expert by any means as witness by my question as well but that should be an easy install for the head unit

That package you picked out would be a good starting point. But my first thought would be that you're right, a double din head unit won't work with your dash. Unless there's a lot of slack on the a/c controls, then maybe you could relocate them to the bottom, where the Cd player is.

So you're probably stuck with either getting a flip out 6 or 7" single din screen, which when out would cover up your a/c controls which could be really annoying, or just getting a normal single din head unit (no screen).

You'll notice a big difference in sound going from a stock radio and speakers to aftermarket speakers and head unit. As far as front speaker sizes, you might be able to use an adapter and run 6.5" speakers up front. Just depends how much room is there, it may or may not require a little trimming to make it work. I'd definitely go with 6.5's over the 5x7's if you can make it work. Get a set of rear speakers too, again you might be able to squeeze 6x9's in the back, do that if you can.

Nice GN man! We definitely need more pictures! A couple years ago I went to a car show, and there was a couple there, the husband had a typhoon, and the wife had a Syclone. I thought that was pretty cool and unique :smokin

again much appreciated yeah not really trying to pay to redo the whole damn console so im going with just a regular headunit w/bluetooth (i.e. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/pioneer...lack/1530331.p?id=1219054447562&skuId=1530331) is geeksquad gonna be able to make 6.5" fit in the 5x7 or do i have to go somewhere less coporate (provided its possible)?? and if they can should i buy adapters, harness, etc somewhere else and get them to do it or just let them use what they have?
 
I had a 89 cougar as my first car and put a head unit in their. Went to the local flea market and they installed it. So its possible

it wasn't for Rally. But Carroll Shelby building a high powered 4 cylinder turbo car that was fast on the track played a big part in cars like Evos and STIs being built

That wide body is straight fire, besides the color.  A million times better than any of those ugly Liberty Walk cars.

you definitely dont need a head unit in any sort of recent car. I had an 02 jetta back in 2006. wired subs and an amp up with no headunit. monster sound. 

if ur talking about the speakers in your doors, you also definitely do not NEED a headunit.

That I'm not too sure about. I'm sure they have the plastic brackets that can be used to switch speaker sizes, since older vehicles commonly have weird speaker sizes. Whether or not you can just use a plastic bracket and bolt in 6.5's or if it needs some trimming will depend on what it looks like behind the door panel.

It sounds like you don't want to spend a boatload of money on it, which is understandable. I know you'd be able to put 5.25's in place of the 5x7's, they'll fit for sure. The general rule with speakers is the bigger the size, the better midbass they can provide. So, it'd be nice to run the bigger 6.5's, but 5.25's will sound just fine as well.

if ur worried about 5x7s...why not just get a 5x7?

jl audio and infinity are both GREAT audio brands. alpine is a top of the line brand and even they have a 5x7. (http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/sps-517)  im not saying this is the cheapest i found em for but.. at least u have an idea.

The short answer is..... Maybe :lol:

You have to remember that the stock headunit will be powering the new speakers. So, you may not see any benefit from just upgrading the stock speakers if the stock headunit doesn't put out much power.

Also, some newer cars run factory amps. These can sometimes operate at a different ohm (for example 8 ohm) then a typical aftermarket stereo (most speakers are 4 ohm). Your best bet is to go into a car stereo shop and ask, all cars are a little different, and I'm not sure how the genesis is set up.

Like Tek said, you could also add a sub using the stock headunit, that is easily doable, and can be a nice upgrade to newer cars that already have a alright factory stereo, but lack bass.

This is also a good option if it's too much hassle to fit 6.5's.

I like JL audio, although I've always thought they're a little overpriced. Good brand though! Infinity is solid, as is Alpine. Definitely go with a quality brand, don't cheap out!
