im pretty sure the dmv wont make it legal, and if its worldwide legalization they will probably make a law for the dmv that when you get caught it will bite your #$@. DC and maryland will probably be fine with it but VA, no chance.

Keep it home grown and local. We don't need the corporate influence and the extra laws that will come with prop 19.

Prop 19 allows for anyone of age to grow in the privacy of his/her own homes.

An excerpt from Marc Emery's article on legalization posted below:

They correctly surmise that when every adult in California can make all the homegrown cannabis an individual can produce in 25 square feet, the need for them and their rip-off prices evaporates. Like, gone, baby gone. And with home grows legal, police will target the exploiter large scale grows. Who needs their $350- to $450-per-ounce cannabis when we can all safely and legally grow our own weed at home for about $12.50 an ounce?

The article is long so I'm not going to post the entire thing.  If you have some time to learn about the entire debate and the pros and cons of the bill itself, here ya go:

Fact: If California Legalizes Marijuana, the Feds Can't Overturn It

by Scott Morgan, October 13, 2010, 12:18am

* Marijuana -- Personal Use

Arguably the most plainly false argument to emerge in the debate over Prop 19 is that the new law could be "challenged in court" and overturned by the federal government if it passes. Obviously, opponents of marijuana legalization would like its supporters to believe their vote is pointless, but the truth is that Prop 19 would be just as legally binding as the medical marijuana law that came before it.

The latest example of this false claim comes from Bill Whitaker at CBS News:

Even if it passes, pot would still be illegal under federal drug laws, so it's likely Prop 19 will be challenged in court. That means the whole controversial issue could just go up in smoke.

This just isn't true. There is literally nothing the feds can do to change California law. If state laws had to be the same as federal laws, then the term "state law" wouldn't even be familiar to us. Each state has its own unique set of laws that are enforced by police and courts in that state. Federal laws are completely different and they only apply when you're dealing with federal police and federal courts.

Of course, it's also true that federal law can be enforced anywhere in the country, and that seems to be what's confusing people here. If Prop 19 passes, the closest the federal government can come to interfering with it is to make their own arrests and carry out prosecutions in federal court. This works fine for making an example out of someone they don't like, but it hardly lessens the impact of a major change in state law. Marijuana would remain legal in the eyes of California police, and that's what counts. Just look at the medical marijuana situation, where the feds made some busts, but still failed to prevent a massive industry from forming, because the feds can't realistically take over the role of local law enforcement.

It's critically important that voters (as well as journalists) understand how this works so that everyone knows the facts before the vote on November 2nd. If Prop 19 passes, the issue cannot and will not "just go up in smoke," no matter how badly the drug warriors in Washington, D.C. wish that such a possibility existed. Please consider contacting CBS to suggest a correction to their coverage.

I might vote against... yes change of heart.

Realized many folks will be out of jobs. It's too easy to get a medical rec and join a club, Ive done it and so can others that want to get blazed.

They should just make a bill that taxes it more heavily EVEN with medical use. It's not fair that folks are getting rich and won't kick in some more money cause a lot is being made (then the complaining will start yet again)

I rather have the people grow the stuff and sell it rather than large corporations.

It's a real tough issue if you think about it. Many will be affected one way or another. I don't see how some people highlight the jail time if you give it to minors.... Laws are made to protect people and this is perfect to keep it away from the children........ man I might flip a coin come November

Like I mentioned earlier, every adult will be allowed to grow in the comfort of their own homes, and produce ounces for 12.50 (roughly the amount it'd cost to grow at home).  As a consumer, I'm surprised that you don't believe in the free market system, especially with marijuana.  You think cannabis is rightly more expensive than gold at unit price?

Many folks may be out of jobs, but think about the people who face jail time and ruin their careers over marijuana.  And not just in California, but in the entire country.

If marijuana is legalized, and all signs are positive afterward, it's not crazy to think it could be significant in changing the marijuana laws across the country.

I think it's pretty clear cut why the citizens of California need to vote yes.  Regardless of what you think about the bill, the pros far outweigh any possible cons.  And men who care about change have sunk millions of their own money into this one chance.  You don't get an opportunity like this every year, or even every decade for that matter.  Californians must understand the value of their votes.

Exactly, they can tax (and should) the heck out of marijuana, but the product will be so cheap to make, that the cost will still be well below current market prices.

Even though it would probably be taxed just imagine the types of weed you will have access to...it'll be like Amsterdam everywhere

I think most of NT voting against it is going to get affected by it either:

A. They can't make $$$ by pushing their product

or

B. They don't want the price to increase

Both are valid reasons for certain people to not vote for it. I'm certainly not gonna knock the dude who doesn't want this to go through because he's out of potential clients. This nonsense about how corporations will destroy the system is just foolish. I don't understand how quality is going to suffer. Post prohibition the quality of alcohol increased. You can still grow your own if you don't think corporate quality is up to snuff.

And as far as buying/selling goes right now it's still a pyramid scheme and that's not going to change no matter who's in charge. Am I wrong but after legalization won't this open the market for people to apply for commercial licenses to setup shop and sell?
