This...

...I guess that's the effect clout has on people. But in all honesty, very unique, may be hard to grow on some people but I guess eventually it will...nice to see something different but I'm not totally sold- only partially cuz of TH's involvement as said above..

And this proves the idiocy that exists around here on Nike Talk. You will love something just because someone that you favor does it, which means that you will lie to yourself, and then others, just to belong. It could be the most tacky and tasteless example known to man, but since Tinker Hatfield did it, it is okay.

This is the example of a sellout.

Great job.

kinda surprised there aren't limits to what graphically CAN and CAN NOT appear on a basketball court.

doesn't this give oregon a little bit of an advantage at home, seeing as they'll be used to playing on it? kinda like the blue turf at boise state... it may not SEEM like a big deal, but if you're not used to it, i would think it would be distracting.

I think that was one of the factors involved.

You have to understand the story behind the design, then you can form an opinion about it. It has symbolic references to the state of Oregon, and two men who were very instrumental in making the arena a reality, Phil Knight and Pat Kilkenny.

It is inspired by the tree-covered region known as the Pacific Northwest and the University's 1939 NCAA Championship team that were nicknamed the 'Tall Firs'. It is a view from beneath a forest of fir trees. The floor has been named after Pat Kilkenny, a long-time supporter of UO who recently served as the school's Director of Athletics from `07-`09. He also contributed a lot to the construction of the arena, so they wanted to pay respect to him and his family for that. There are 3 other graphics on the floor that pay homage to Mr. Kilkenny. The new arena logo is under the 'O' in center court and it says 'MATT', a tribute to Phil Knight's son who passed away in a terrible accident a few years ago. Hence the name, MATTHEW KNIGHT ARENA.

The phrase "Deep in the Woods" is below the arena logo and serves as an intimidating reminder to the visiting team where they are.

^ Now that I know the backstory...

... my opinion is unchanged. Still looks awful.

But I've never been a fan of the 'You have to know certain things about it' line of reasoning. If someone thinks something looks terrible, they shouldn't have to be told the reasoning (read: 'be convinced') why it's not terrible.
