I posted this question in the Lebron Thread and with the hype of the SB 8's it kinda got over looked....But im seriously considering camping for these or at the least hitting the midnight release..so it kinda posed the question.....Are really fresh sneakers what inspire HYPE...or do people justify calling a sneaker FRESH or REALLY great BECAUSE they bought into the hype????

I own one pair of Lebron 7 Dunkman Lows...and I gotta say there are pretty comfortable....Ive never camped or sleep in the street for kicks....and the fact that Im considering this is bugging me out....I like the colorway of the SB 8's...but It would be crazy to be that guy who lines up...tries them on...and passes...Now that would be just stupid....So it kinda made me think....Do people cop and then try to justify there purchase by buying into the hype????

i was about to buy into they hype, plenty of pairs supposedly here in dallas. i asked if i could use the 30$ off coupon and was told no, so now im passing. not paying retail for a shoe that ill barely use due to the nature of its CW

Great Thread. I am going to sit and watch some of the responses, and then reply further afterward.

^^ Not sure I can agree with that....(wheres wallyhoop) because Trainer 1's are one of my all time favorite kicks and there is generally no hype behind them.....Another example was DJCK's 112 pack....Great collection of kicks...yea they got hyped....but the color ways....the design...the materials produced a great pair of kicks....Just BECAUSE DJCK made them..did not make them fresh...Even if his name was not on them they STILL would have been fresh...

I think there are obvious choices....Like many will say the Yeezy's was a sneaker that HYPE truly created because once people started sleeping in the streets and supply was sooo limited everyone thought Yeezys was the best thing since slice bread......I hate the word "sneakerhead" so Im gonna use the word sneaker lovers fell in love with the kicks because despite all the *****ing and complaining people do in the JB thread about quality....The Yeezys are one of the best quality and most comfortable sneakers I own 100% worthy of the premium they command....Truly worth the $200 price tag...Now...Get a sneaker like the Foams...which I also own a couple pairs...they are like bricks on your feet....I only cop on a 50 or outlet diggin.....I truly feel like Foams are a sneaker that hype created....Camping..paying above $200....whatelse can you say but you love them.....I mean I like them....but not at above $200 retail...

well... (this is my opinion) i think the lebron 8's are ugly. there's a lot of hype around lebron and i think that's what makes his shoes sell. if the shoe didn't have lebron all over it, i'm confident it would sit on shelves.

I've always liked a shoe b/c I like a shoe. There's been plenty of times where hype did increase my interest but in the end I have to like the shoe, period.

I always ask, if so and so wasnt attached to a product, how would it be looked at? More often than not, the shoes would never be bought.

It's a sad reality out there. I feel if I say anything, Im alienating myself from 98% of NT

Hype gets to everyone. It's inevitable.

Foamposites for example... (a generic example now days) Foams have been around since release date.... They did well but poorly in some places. But keep in mind... They released and released in a diff form to decrease the price but then retro'd in 02.... Foams are dope....

Which leads to my "conclusion".... When the youngins see the old heads wanting and proclaiming that foams are dope/ill/tight/etc... They follow. Theyre being led to believe these are dope and great.... So it's gonna grasp more attention to the rest.... So it gets the true fans more interested and worried so they "hype" it up and that leads to more hypebeasts.....

It's a chain reaction.

When you have Nike stamping L.E. on GR releases.... You know they're grabbing you by your cajones.

that's Nikes genius marketing.... You don't see that from any other brand.....

having a Chinese dude sing and having Rose in the background is not considered "cool". That's funny...
I am not gonna take that shoe serious...

when you look at a Nike shoe priced at $200 and then see an adidas shoe priced $100.... which shoe seems inferior? So that's gonna pursue someone to jump on that as well. But that's another topic.

Hype create GREAT sneakers for majority
people dont buy what they like people buy what gets major hype
sneakers with no hype can look good and will sit collect major dust

me personally though
im into different colorways
im not gonna cop 10 different red and black sneakers
and 10 different all black sneakers

Thanks guys for sharing your opinion but Im not sure if we are really there yet....I guess the only way to truly answer the question would be to springboard off where Wally was going with it.....Take a pair of kicks....forget about the price, what kind of release it is, how many quantites there are, put them on a wall....and ask yourself are these fresh enough to cop....
