Cost cutting at NIke is getting on my nerves !!!

Your comments are definately on point.  I too plan to pick up the playoff XIIIs and XIIs because  both of my OGs no longer fit me and i sold them. thanks for the zoom unit info,  i had an extra pair of zoom units i bought from another member on here that i used to perform the zoom transplant on the bb2 lows. JCA998 thanks again for helping me out.

And I thought I was the only one who didn't like the 2K4. I thought fit was sloppy, cushioning was dead, and materials were so-so. I have been on a major adidas kick lately, and even liking my Under Armour Black Ice more than my Hyperfuses (bought so I would have the Duke shoe for the year). I fell out of the Jordan retro craze after the 2003 III release, which had good quality. I did buy some Nike retros, like the Zoom 95 and 96 and Air Force Max, which were all very nice compared to Jordan releases, but for new designs, Nike had lost me lately. And my first pair of Jordans were Jordan I's in 1986, as a 6th grader, so I am like you and remember what was good. Nike running and trainers have caught my money alot more than basketball lately.

I liked the 2k4.

Ok so instead of complaining that Nike isnt what it used to be. Tell us some recent classics( 00s) that we can pick up on eBay?  Tell me so I can try them out and understand how you feel.

Great info in this thread

I agree with you that it is the consumers fault. I say the same thing about Jordan's all the time. I bought space jam's in 09 nostalgia got me lol. The shoe itself was just uncofortable to wear. I said "I really paid 175 + tax for this?" that was the last jordan retro i purchase. I've since bought asics gel lyte 3s and lebrons. Jordan's quality at this point is laughable with their price tags

And i agree with riphamilton too. Man if they would make full length zoom tiempo's again...

The importance of quality has been lost in our society. We want everything for 99 cents, but don't understand that corners have to be cut to make that happen. I don't recall Nike ever having top quality across the board, and that was fine. Because in the 80s and 90s, Nike's upper and lower echelon didn't seem to cross paths often and it was easier to identify the quality by the store you bought them from and whatever tests you conducted before purchasing (testing the leather by flicking it with your nail, visible air units, smelling the shoe, the try on walk, etc).

When the 21st century hit, I noticed that Nike was using horrid materials in the re-making of some of their most iconic models. Once that became a success Nike started making new models out of plastic with painted on checks (swoosh) and zoom air units cut in half. I understand new materials being used for the sake of performance, but now sneakers are starting to look like jelly sandals with zoom air units (KOBE V).

Nike still has quality shoes, you just have to dig for them (literally and figuratively). I wasn't a fan of the Air Force 1 until the SPRM line dropped. Now I have several pair that meet standards that used to be commonplace for Nike. Same for the Nike Air Force STAT line. Great shoes made with great materials.

Nike isn't likely to change, so it's left to consumers to create standards and stick to them.

Tru- You said it bro! My thoughts exactly - everytime I see one of these quality/beginning of the end/complaining/whining posts. Lets end this thread and all similar ones and just leave it with this. Rather than seeing every clueless, self-centered...... "retro's killed it, hypebeasts killed it blah blah blah" on and on. Nike as a whole, is doing what they, and any other business in their position would do - and ever since the whole "sweatshop factory" policies and regulations were put into place, cost of goods, overhead, etc. Something had to give.
.....Wal Mart for example - i hate it, many of you do to- yet most still shop there, cuz its cheap and easy. All of the good quality grocery stores, produce, customer service, quality and integrity businesses have had to either adapt and change to meet our lazy demands, or go out of business.
....... and, who knows, maybe in the next decade nike and walmart will cut a deal - so you could do your banking, grocery shopping, electronics, automotive needs, gardening, grooming(hair, glasses, nails), pet needs, lottery, tobacco, clothes, and shoe shopping all in one trip!!!!

Is the quality that much worse or is that with the explosion of places for people to air their displeasure (NIKETalk, Facebook, Twitter, Sneaker websites) it SEEMS like it has become worse. If NIKETalk existed when the Jordan 5 came out would we hear the same stories of quality. THe world has become much smaller.

Isn't it illegal for Nike to sell the Zoom BB II lows without full length zoom air if they state that they have the full length zoom?

Something like false marketing, I'm sure Nike's got some loophole but if not, couldn't they be sued?

I know in the 80's and 90's the shoes were made with better materials, better leathers, thicker rubber, but there were still build issues. I went through three pairs of OG Jordan 4's because the wings broke. I went through two pairs og Air Force V because the toe kept coming unstitched at a flexpoint. Same with a pair of Reebok Blacktops. My main problem is the drop-off in material quality while also increasing price. Give us one or the other, not both.
