***New Reebok Pick-Ups, Release Info, etc.***

It actually looks like the Hex itself is bigger on the prototype, so that made the pod bigger as a result. Perhaps they just can't manufacture the hex to that spec just for one release, and decided not to go ham building it all out with the standard size hex?

I'm in the US in December & January. Hope that I can come up on some of those sweet outlet deals a few of you are picking up.

Reebok outlet in Wrentham MA had Buy One, Get One 60% Off for almost all shoes. Grabbed two pairs of InstaPump Furys (Furies?) for $70 out the door ($49.95 box price each). Insane. They had a couple smaller sizes of the grey/indigo/orchard Furys and scattered sizes of the navy/orange Thinsulate Furys, and most sizes of the Blk/Wht and the Navy Big Hurts on hash. Quite a few Fury Lites, too.

Maaan, I wish my outlet had any Fury models, any would be great, especially for that price.

Honestly brother, I think the factories in China can make anything you want - you just have to pay (a little more) for it. You are indeed right that it's cheaper for them to reuse the existing 50,000 Question midsoles laying around though.

It's just my opinion that it is a prototype that they attempting to re-issue here so they ought to make it different from the actual Question. The toe-cap on the prototype extends quite noticeably higher but the release toe-cap is a lot better looking in that regard. It only has the visible Hex pods on the lateral side and none on the medial side, so technically Reebok is already saving money by not 'gluing' them on both sides.

There's gonna be a ton of Questions dropping next year so why not make this one stand out vs. having it look unfinished (due to lack of the medial Hex pods).

Sway must love the pump fusions because he's rocking them quite a bit. He might have a endorsement deal because he has worn a lot of classics.

Yeah they were, along with many other models.

We should see if we can make a definitive list of the retro models that Reebok has shelved over the past 2-3 years. Blacktop IIs, Swingman, Answer 3... what others have we been teased with but never seen at retail?

The Rafter, the black and white Rail are two more that I can think about right away.

The Rafter is funny, because when it was announced, we all hated it because other things we were looking forward to (the Swingman, more Blacktops) were being put on hold, or givenup on entirely. And now the Rafter ended up exactly the same.

We've said it so often, but it is worth repeating: Reebok (Adidas) don't seem to have a coherent concept about marketing, promotion or even their product offerings.

So I just recently had a chance to have a short conversation with a person inside Reebok and all that we were saying and keep saying is true, but...Like every company out there, they care about profits and not how the small amount of fans feel like. Models are being scrapped because their retail partners, and as little as they are now, don't think those models will sell and for the majority of the times they are right. Until the marketing starts actually functioning and they make the brand popular again, we will continue to get more of the same and nothing exciting.

Which makes perfect sense. Obviously as a business, Reebok is aiming to maximise profits, so they'll go with what is a) cheapest to produce, and b) will sell the best. And if their retail partners are feeding back that they can't move retro products outside of Classic Leathers, Ventilators, Questions and Omni Lights, that's what we'll keep getting. Which is a bummer for the small group of hardcore fans (like us) who want to see Blacktops and Icepicks (ok, that might just be me) and so on (the most recent KICKS mag called jokingly (I think) for a retro of Steve Francis's Reebok line).

Like you say, until the marketing starts working in such a way as to increase the status of the brand and make it culturally relevant, we're going to see a lot more of what we're seeing now.

On the Icepick, you are not alone, I would love to see pretty much every model from 1990 to 1998, there are so many really, I can name all of them. Sometimes I think it's even sad, when I can name at least 30-40 without even thinking and people that work at Reebok can't even name 10, not to mention the so called popular blogs and their writers.

I know exactly how you feel. There are a lot of "shoe people" who know next to nothing about the history of any of the brands, let alone Reebok. That rich run of shoes in the '80s & '90s that Reebok had is still clear in my (and your) mind, but others have very little idea about it at all.

I guess the upside is continually being able to grab things on discount. But long-term that's not a win for the brand.

There's 2 things that kill a business, not enuff business and too much business. the decision makers at Reebok may be very content with their salaries/bonuses & want to keep the status quo.......but if they were looking to restore their brand, they need to think outside the box. hard to do & much riskier than keeping the status quo.

i know i mentioned this earlier, Eastwood guitars method. brilliant idea of taking preorders for vintage guitars. if the guitar never gets funded, it doesn't get made & the money gets returned... but Eastwood has the deposit and can earn interest on those deposits. check out the link below.... you can see that some current projects are over 300% funded. obviously Eastwood did not know that the demand for these models would be that high or they would have made them already.

in big business it usually takes a bold young newcomer to come in & want to leave his mark before things change. here's hoping Reebok gets some young blood in to shake things up.
