For sure I thought Avril would demand more in free agency - I honestly didn't think he'd be an option. I thought Abraham would be the obvious (and cheap) choice but Cliff came at a bargain. And it's only a 2 yr deal so there really isn't room for him to get complacent with a 'big pay day'

We've still gotta re-sign Branch, at the very least. Still needs at DT, OLB, TE, & CB in no specific order

 Can't wait for the draft.

I like what the Seahawks are doing in free agency. It's giving them a clear direction to go with in the draft, thus making it easier!

Love the pickup of Avril, really solid signing. The most glaring need I see right now is at OLB. I don't know if I can take another season of LeRoy Hill, dude can't cover anyone out there :smh:

And as much as Trufant has been a great piece of this organization it is most definitely time to let him go. I would lose it if we signed Charles Woodson, he's too perfect of a fit on this team.

A good $$$ breakdown for the team and moving forward regarding extensions for current guys coming up

http://www.fieldgulls.com/seahawks-...y-seahawks-2013-offensive-salary-cap-analysis
As for the rest of the Seahawks' $130M cap: I believe the Seahawks will commit to somewhere in the low $50M range (say $52M) to the defensive side of the ball this year.

They are currently at only $40M  right now. With the way the free agent market is going - I predict a "John Abraham" type defensive end, (DK Note: Cliff Avril, y'all) a Defensive Tackle, and perhaps a nickel corner will be signed (modest money) in free agency. Once these chips have fallen, I will do a similar post to this which breaks down the salaries and cap hits on defense.
I also believe Ben Obomanu  will be a cap casualty with a $2.3M net cap savings and a $167k dead money charge.

Some fans will get touchy with me thinking Matt Flynn  gets traded or cut. No worries - for this exercise, just print the spreadsheet I've put together and add him back in at a figure of $7.25M (and deduct the $4.0M in dead money  I included) for a net add of about $2.75M($3.25M net add less the $500k cap hit for a rookie backup).

Same goes for Paul McQuistan. If you believe that there is no way he gets cut, just add about $2.5M  to the cap and you can keep him ($3.375M cap hit less $375k dead money charge less the $500k you would pay to his rookie replacement).

I think I'd prefer Winfield > Woodson, too. Of all things watch Walter Thurmond actually stay healthy for an entire year and kill

Walt staying on the field

Hsu said on his twitter the team is currently around 6mil under the cap prior to any more cuts being made to this point. Im not to familiar with how the money/cap works fully so idk if a Branch/Winfield/Picks deals can or cant fit but the FO has been great giving out deals these last few years so I got the utmost confidence in these guys.

Whats the word on Hauschka?

I hope the Seahawks manage to keep him.

I know outside of 50 he's iffy...but inside of that, automatic. I don't want to mess with another kicker and the headache they may or may not bring.

Hope he stays too.

It was reported today the team signed Carson Wiggs last week, I paid it no mind cause I didnt realize Hauschka was a free agent

The signing marks another need off the list. That really leaves starting defensive tackle, interior pass rusher and nickel corner. Schneider will not want to the enter the draft needing to find a starting defensive tackle, nor will he want to count on Clinton McDonald to ascend into that role. Richard Seymour continues to be available and is a guy that can stuff the run and disrupt versus the pass. Alan Branch could very well reprise his role at a modest price. Another guy that is worth keeping an eye on is 25-year-old DT Vance Walker. He was a disruptive rotational defensive tackle for the Falcons last season who is the right age and is not getting a bunch of attention. Getting him at the right price could be a coup.
Even cornerback, a position I would never expect to see the Seahawks use free agency to fill, could see some action. A guy like Antoine Winfield is intriguing at the right price. Seattle will be in no rush to address that position with cash, as the trio of Byron Maxwell, Jeremy Lane and Walter Thurmond are strong and the draft will likely add another name to the mix. Still, a guy like Winfield is good enough and probably cheap enough to be worth a look.
Completely forgot about a guy like Seymour

They're gonna have to do something about Z Miller and Sidney Rice, both combined to make about 20M this yr. Theres even talk of Clemons possibly getting cut, but it definitely isn't worth it.

     Quote:
Long story short, releasing Clemons would save the team as little as $2.3 million under the cap this season. That's relatively little to gain for parting with a team leader and a player who is arguably the best defensive lineman on the team when healthy.

Yeah I can't see Clemons getting cut, Not now at least.

I see Avril as insurance rather than a replacement and Irvin is still developing, would be dumb to get rid of your best DE against the pass and run.

Yup you guessed it, confirmed via Seahawks twitter (does Pete really run this thing?

Seahawks a destination franchise now... Brings tears to me eyes.

We just signed the best free agent available at a position of need on a 2 year "prove yourself" type deal that will still leave us perfect time to resign all our underpaid superstars. I've never been a fan of a team with management this good.

Also just love the identity and type of players we're building around. Never felt that way in the Holmgren era.

These perfect deals that we're signing  :pimp:

I thought Bennett was looking for a massive (and laughable) payday, but 1yr 5 mill with us is :smokin

These guys see the potential of playing on this Defense, 8 games in the CLink + still at a young age to cash on a bigger deal next contract

and of course play for a contender
