That really sucks about KJ. At least Malcolm has been good.

I'm not too bummed about the loss today. It was almost like a free shot to knock the 9ers out for fun. And obviously we played well enough to win if it weren't for the penalties.

Also, it doesn't hurt to have a loss down the stretch in a year where you've been winning like this. Will help to get everyone angry and refocused.

Yeah, I'm kinda whatever about the loss. It's not like they got worked (Wilson still has yet to lose a game by more than a TD). Road game, short week, against a good team that really needed the win.

Still, Carolina and NO could very likely split, which would make getting that #1 seed even easier. They gotta beat the Giants though and get two cracks at home for the one other win they need.

I hate the 49ers and never want to lose to them. Whether it's important or not

Agreed. Don't need the friggin' Cardinals and Rams playing for nothing, even in Seattle. Hell, the rams don't care about anything right now. They get Washington's #1 pick in the draft. They don't even have to tank.

Looks like all it took was a close win at home to bring SF's #1 troll back into this thread.

I guess you gotta get used to it, considering you guys can't beat us at the stick. Lol @ drake hopping on the bandwagon

Before you guys mention the 2 blow out losses in seattle...did those blow out wins you guys had last year bring you to the super bowl?

Alright, hopefully enough time has passed now where I can start a football discussion without being attacked.  I have a question for you guys.

If you are Pete Carroll, with a 1 point lead and about 1:40 or whatever left on the clock (after Kaepernick runs for the first and goal), do you let the Niners score a touchdown purposely?

I know its hard to give up the lead on purpose, but would you do it?  Basically, you are looking at being down 5 or 7 points with about 1:20 left in the game, or being down 2 points with like 25 seconds left.

Just curious to know what your thoughts on this are.  What do you think would have given your team a better shot?

When Gore got off that run, my first initial thought was to let him score there, but Gore went down on his own and that plan for me, went out the window. I wanted the defense to step it up, and although they only gave up a FG, they also gave up a first down. There just wasn't enough time left to do a whole lot. An extra 6 seconds would've been nice.

They asked Pete that question too, and he said he thought about it, and then dismissed it. He said he would look into whether or not letting your opponent score has actually worked out for other teams...I dont remember a case where it has though.

I think our defense is good enough that you give them 4 or however many chances to force a turnover and try to block the kick.  It's not like that hasn't happened before.

I do understand the question in principle and there are many situations where it is the only option, but it's a tough choice to make.  What if you let Gore run free through your D and then he decides to dance on the 1 yard line and then fall down there without scoring?

It makes the most sense to make that decision if there is a big imbalance between your offense and defense (in favor of the offense).

I wanted to let them score after the first down. Percentages say so too. http://www.advancednflstats.com/2013/12/seahawks-stumble-should-have-allowed-td.html
post #4706 of 9299

What if you instructed the D to ONLY punch at the ball, instead of making tackles?

In most cases with even a little but more time I say just try to hold them, get a block, possible fumble, whatever but

I think you gotta let them score being in the position to have only 25 seconds on the clock.
