SEATTLE SEAHAWKS THREAD

For example I have a friend who rooted hard for the panthers in the early 2000's. Now all he does is talk about how he is a die hard and a "real" fan.

Man it doesn't bother me. But makes me sad how so many people are quick to abandon teams. Ala the Sonics and mariners and Seahawks early 2000's
it's a sign of a teams success for better or worse.

seeing all these "life long LA Kings" fans come out around my way in 2012 was comical but it meant the team was doing something right.

most those bandwagon fans were probably riding that 12th man wave from 2003-07 then probably fell off the face of the earth during the 2008-09 seasons and weeks 1-16 during 2010 but were team 12th man during that saints playoff game and the later part of the 2012 season and on.

it happens, it happened with the 49ers, i can deal with it but i don't take the bandwagon fans sports opinions seriously.

Lol shame. When the Niners were garbage in the 2000s, I just went for any team against the Pats (Eagles, Indy, Chargers, Panthers, etc.) but, I never went against the Niners and always had them as my top priority team. I think that's what separates a fan from a trend-follower.

My brother said the parade was crazy 700,00 people really there aint that many people livin in seattle, i can excuse the out of towners (pnw) only though. the rest are bandwagon fans but at least they got to enjoy our beautiful city. I was born a seahawk fan, been a fan since the warren moon, john kitna days. back on topic great win over our former afc west rivals.

So ******g cold. Way too many people. I almost regret going today lol probably would've been better off watching the stream at home.

I'd be the first to admit that I'm not a hard-core fan... certainly nowhere near the level as some of you cats in here.  But as an ex-206er, I'm genuinely ecstatic on what this win means for the city.

Glad some of you guys were there to absorb it all!

Now if there was only something we could do about the M's...

And gimme back my Sonics...

Bruh, people abandoned the Seahawks for damn near 20 years at one point lol (and again in 2008).

As for me, I'd call myself a casual rooter who can get up for a big game. They're not the team I grew up loving. That was the Sonics, who I always stuck with through thick and thin. However, I will say this: I do like to see the Seahawks do well because I do have die-hard fan friends, and if they're happy, then I'm happy for them. Makes me happy to see them get so excited over a team.

Being from the Bay, I see things different. Like a lot of you, the Sonics were the first team of any sport that I ever fell in love with. However, they weren't ripped away from my city like they were for you guys. To me, the team simply moved to another city. So yes, I do follow OKC, but ever since the Sonics became extinct, my hometown team of the Warriors have taken over as my basketball team.

I'm in a similar boat since I live in NYC. But I've tried to re-commit fully as a fan to the nets, it's really not the same. I just accept I'll follow teams and players I like until we get the sonics back.

Can't even adopt a team. Tried to follow Portland couple years ago but my heart wasnt in it, it was more because of B.Roy being there anyways

I mostly just follow players now

9 guys to potentially pick at #32

Predicting how much Sherman will get on his extension:

Contract Forecast: Richard Sherman
By: Michael GinnittiPosted: January 23, 2014
 • Comments
The "best cornerback in the game" has certainly garnered plenty of attention in the young 2014, but he's also walked the talk through 3 NFL seasons in Seattle. Of course we're talking about Richard Sherman, the latest entry to our list of contract extensions.

The 2011 5th round draft pick out of Stanford signed a base rookie contract with the Seahawks, including a $182,424 signing bonus. He's set to earn $645,000 in 2014 cash, the final year of his contract, but many believe Seattle will expedite an extension with their talented cornerback.

Other Options
The projected franchise tag value for cornerbacks in 2014 is $11.25M, a figure that will rise slightly in 2015 when Sherman would become taggable. It's fairly certain that our forecast below results in an average annual salary north of $12M, meaning the Seahawks could potentially stall/save by allowing Sherman to play out his contract with the notion of franchise tagging him in 2015. This most certainly will not be the route Sherman and his camp will prefer (i.e. Jairus Byrd / Buffalo Bills).

We'll evaluate Sherman against the top cornerbacks in football in order to provide a mathematical forecast for what an extension in Seattle might look like.

Comparable Cornerbacks

To generate a prediction the Spotrac team determined that the following cornerbacks were viable targets to use in comparing with Sherman. The key was to locate players with similar numbers, who signed a contract around the current age (almost 26). Here's a look at the contracts signed by each. To determine a more likely starting point for our numbers, we'll perform a linear regression of each contract breakdown listed below.

[th=""]Player[/th][th=""]Length[/th][th=""]Value[/th][th=""]Avg. Salary[/th][th=""]Age When Signed[/th]

Darrelle Revis6$96,000,000$16,000,00028

Brandon Carr5$50,100,000$10,020,00026

Cortland Finnegan5$50,000,000$10,000,00028

Johnathan Joseph5$48,750,000$9,750,000

[th=""]
Averages
[/th][th=""]5.25[/th][th=""]$61,212,500[/th][th=""]$11,442,500[/th]

Sherman will turn 26 at the end of March - a likely starting point for negotiations, and a relatively young age in terms of cornerbacks signing big contracts/. We'll adjust the above contracts down to reflect each as if it were signed at the age of 26 to provide a better scope for our base prediction.

Statistical Analyzations

Now let's analyze these players statistically over their careers by showing the averages for Games/Season, Intercetpions/Season, Tackles/Season, and Completion % Against/Season.

Then, to assess how well the player was performing prior to signing their respective contract, we'll show the averages of these statistics two years prior to their signing date. This will give us a "Prime Percentage" for each player, providing us with a snapshot for how well that player was performing when the contract was signed in relation to his overall career.

[th=""]Player[/th][th=""]Games[/th][th=""]INT[/th][th=""]Tackles[/th][th=""]Caught %[/th]

Darrelle Revis (2010-11, NYJ)14.523439.9

Brandon Carr (2010-11, KC)162.55147.45

Cortland Finnegan (2010-11, TEN)161.57065.05

Johnathan Joseph (2009-10, CIN)144.55661.65

[th=""]Averages[/th][th=""]15.125[/th][th=""]2.625[/th][th=""]52.75[/th][th=""]53.5125[/th]

Richard Sherman (2012-13, SEA)1684649.4

[th=""]% Difference[/th][th=""]5.79%[/th][th=""]204.76%[/th][th=""]-12.80%[/th][th=""]7.69%[/th]

[th=""]MEDIAN PRIME %[/th][th=""]6.74%[/th]

[th=""]AVERAGE PRIME %[/th][th=""]38.69%[/th]

It's clear from our breakdowns here that Sherman is used more-so as a coverage/shutdown corner (INT/Caught %), and less-so as a run stopper (tackles). In this manner this evaluation is very similar to that of Darrelle Revis', which turned into the largest contract in NFL cornerback history. Sherman stacks up in all of our primary categories, averaging 8 INTs and less than 50% of balls thrown his way caught over the past 2 seasons in Seattle.

We'll factor both his Median and Average prime numbers into our base terms to provide a low and high bar for our forecast.

Guaranteed Money

Sherman has played in all 32 regular season games since entering the league in 2011. He won the starting role 6 games into his rookie season and hasn't looked back. missed a game prior to his foot injury, so it's difficult to place too much concern on the games missed. We'll eliminate the prime percentage in lei of this, and provide a straight average in terms of guaranteed dollars for this forecast.

[th=""]Player[/th][th=""]Value[/th][th=""]True Guarantees[/th][th=""]% Guaranteed[/th]

Darrelle Revis$96,000,000$00%

Brandon Carr$50,100,000$25,500,00050.9%

Cortland Finnegan$50,000,000$24,000,00048%

Johnathan Joseph$48,750,000$23,500,00048.2%

[th=""]Adjusted Regression[/th][th=""]  [/th][th=""]42.4%[/th]

Length of the Contract
It goes without saying that Richard Sherman deserves 6 new years on his contract. At the age of 25, nearly 26, and with exceptional durability through 3 NFL seasons, Sherman holds maximum leverage for length of contract and guaranteed money.

Value of the Contract
Sherman is the second-coming of Darrelle Revis in terms of statistical production, shut-down ability, and on-the-field respect. Our initial base terms brought forth an average annual salary just under $12 million ($11,990,642), a figure that would make him the second highest average paid cornerback in football, but more than $4M per year less than Revis. We'll take a unique approach here, and process two separate values, providing a low and high bar for Sherman, possibly in terms of a hometown discount to remain with the Seahawks.
Low Value (Hometown Discount)
Utilizing our Median Prime Percentage (6.74%), we're provided with a fairly modest value in terms of overall dollars and annual average:
6 years, $76,792,800 | $12,798,811 per year | $32,588,837 guaranteed
High Value
Utilizing our Average Prime Percentage (51%), we're provided with the largest contract in NFL cornerback history in terms of overall dollars and annual average:
6 years, $108,635,214 | $18,105,869 per year | $65,218,132 guaranteed
We'll split the difference to offer the best-value forecast for Sherman's next contract.

Spotrac's Prediction: 6 years, $92,714,000

If Benjamin is available, swoop on that quick!

And I really like Hageman at DT. Straight up freak! A lot of mocks have the 49ers grabbing him, but I think he would be perfect with the Seahawks!

That Baldwin TD gets overshadowed by the Kearse TD, but I think what Dougie did was just as nice! That duck under move for the score?! :smokin :smokin

Who on the squad do you guys see leaving this year purely for the money? It just seems like all the guys that are on the team genuinely love the team and love being a part of the team, and would have little problems with a pay cut. The only guy I see is Sidney Rice, just because a pay cut wouldnt even make any sense for him.

No one, basically.

Rice is definitely getting cut.  I think Miller likely too.

I don't see Breno costing so much that he won't be worth bringing back- he isn't a great player.  Tate should be affordable.

And Bennett we will spend for.

I just hope we get the Earl & Sherman extensions done as well.

Earl, Sherm, and Bennett are locks. No way they let any of them go, imo.

I see Miller agreeing to restructure his crazy contract. Even he knows he shouldnt be caking like that!! :x
