SEATTLE SEAHAWKS THREAD

Ian Rapoport @RapSheet

The possibility of #Seahawks QB Russell Wilson and a fully guaranteed contract is very real. Will be fascinating to watch this develop
on the other hand...
Other rumors... (kind of old, but haven't been posted here)
DAVIS HSU @DavisHsuSeattle

Matt Bowen says league sources tell him TE Julius Thomas is in play for the Seahawks in FA- link on my TL.
The Seahawks are looking to upgrade the tight end position, and league sources say Julius Thomas could be in play once he hits the free-agent market. Thomas would give quarterback Russell Wilson a true matchup weapon to target inside the numbers and in the red zone. Think of "50-50" balls that Thomas can go up and get at the point of attack.

Yes its BR, but dude has decent rep (I've actually heard of him before), and he has 66k followers and does cover the NFL extensively.
Drew Boylhart@DrewBoylhart

RUMOR; #Seahawks very interested in #Bears WR Brandon Marshall & have contacted them about a trade. Interst on both sides is building #NFL
Never heard of this dude, but he's a writer for some website and has 42k followers.

I'm skeptical on the idea that Russell would be willing to  play his rookie contract out

If it is true it all but guarantees Russy is a robot

don't believe this rumor but i read this on seahawks.net

**Disclaimer******* The following story is exactly how it transpired. Whether or not it turns out to be accurate, we will find out in about a month. I promise you that I am not fabricating this one bit, in an attempt to stir up the site. Just simply wanting to report to my fellow Hawk lovers what I'm hearing. After all, the Lions can still franchise Suh and make all of this a moot point.

So last night, I'm sitting down watching some TV, when I get a facebook message from an old friend that lives in Seattle, who happens to be a diehard Cowboy fan, but also a very passionate and knowledgeable guy about all things football. Let's say he works at a "Prime" employer in the Seattle area, and one of his best friends and co-workers happens to be really close friends with a prominent Hawk player with ties to the Northwest. Here's what the message from my buddy said:

"Hey bro. My buddy at work is friends with (player name hidden to keep anonymity). He says Suh is a done deal to Seattle. 4 years $55M"

Now, I'm pretty skeptical at this point. But I take solace in the fact that my buddy isn't happy giving me this news....he's not liking us getting Suh one bit. Still, I ask a follow up question.

"that would be sick....you feel like this is pretty reliable info?"

and he goes,

"he's the one that told me about the first Percy trade before it happened".

the specifics of the contract being final before JS can legally talk to him about next year makes me skeptical

The Seattle Seahawks have offered running back Marshawn Lynch a multi-year deal that would pay between $11 million and $12 million during the first year and $9 million during the second of what could end up being a three-year deal, according to multiple league sources.

Lynch's agent, Doug Hendrickson, and Seahawks general manager John Schneider met Friday night in Indianapolis, where the NFL scouting combine is being held. While the two sides are close on the framework for a deal, it's still not clear whether Lynch is inclined to accept it.

Conflicting reports...?

Doug Hendrickson @DHendrickson41

Contrary to reports there is no marshawn lynch deal.
Jason La Canfora @JasonLaCanfora

Doug Hendrickson, agent for Marshawn Lynch, says "there is no deal done." I continue to hear SEA has offer on table that will result in deal
Jason La Canfora  @JasonLaCanfora

Marshawn Lynch has a new deal in place with the Seahawks according to league sources.
Jason La Canfora @JasonLaCanfora

Would expect formalization of Lynch deal in coming days. Will include $12M in 1st year, $9M in 2nd year w/SEA aware he may retire after '15
Gregg Bell @gbellseattle

Carroll hinted it close. Trying to confirm from a plane "@JasonLaCanfora: Marshawn Lynch has a new deal in place with #Seahawks sources say"

I gotta say, I love Beast Mode, but this talk of up to 12 mil is starting to get a little out of hand. I don't want to lose him, but with his back issues, I wish he would just take a series of one year deals with a large, mostly guaranteed base salary. If he signs for 2-3 more seasons and retires after this coming season, we'll be on the hook for some of that money via his signing bonus, and that dead money will hit the cap at the worst possible moment (all extensions kicking in, including Russ)

What do you guys think about that? I certainly don't want to go into this year relying on a C Mike/Turb backfield, and I don't want us to use our first rounder on a guy like Gurley or Gordon, but I don't think they should jeopardize the financial future to placate Marshawn too much. Tough spot. We obviously have a great team with the opportunity to win now, but we need to make sure that the team is financially sound and in contention for the duration of Russ' athletic prime.

Definitely a lot of money but look at what message it'll send to the team. Especially a team that may have left this past season questioning coaches, front office, etc.

Money talks and Marshawn and his people know that. The NFL is definitely a business and not a lot of things can send a bigger message than $$$.

As for Marshawn, dude is honorable. He held out to get more money, but then went out and balled out after getting paid. It would mean a lot to the locker room and fans to see Beast leave Seattle in good terms, because he's busted his butt since he got here from Buffalo.

Not really worried that kind of contract puts the team in a serious bind because the cap is projected to rise by 10mil or so? each year over the next few years. Especially if it's front loaded as has been speculated so the hit wouldnt be too bad if he did dip out early? I'm assuming.

I do agree, the message it shows to the rest of the team and continues to show the positive relationship the FO has with the players here

Good points on the "taking care of your own" aspect to it. I like that as well. Sends a good message to the locker room and potential free agents.

The Seahawks, potentially losing Byron Maxwell in free agency and also needing to beef up a secondary that has been hit with some injuries, are reportedly courting cornerbacks Cary Williams and Tramon Williams.

Cary Williams, who was released by the Eagles earlier this week, will visit the Seahawks Thursday, according to a report tonight from NFLDraftDiamonds.com.

The 30-year-old Williams started all 33 regular season and playoff games for the Eagles the past two years. He previously played for Tennessee and Baltimore and started in the Ravens’ Super Bowl XVIII win over the 49ers.

Cary Williams was released by the Eagles in a salary cap move as he was due to make $6.5 million in 2015. He had two interceptions in two years with the Eagles, who have not been known for their pass defense, allowing the most passing yards in the NFL in 2013 and the second-most in 2014.

As for Tramon Williams, the Green Bay Press-Gazette reported tonight that the Seahawks are expected to pursue him if he is not re-signed by the Packers by the time the free agent signing period begins on Tuesday.

As the story notes, Tramon Williams joined the Packers in 2006 when current Seattle general manager John Schneider was then working in Green Bay.

Tramon Williams, who recently turned 32, started all but one game for Green Bay the last five years. The Press-Gazette reports he turned down a two-year, $8 million offer from the Packers and wants a 3-4-year deal averaging $5 million a season.

In avoiding any story relating to Jeremy Lane with fear of seeing that gruesome arm injury in the SB, I didn't know he also sustained a torn ACL. Crazy!
