Official PC thread.

My Asus laptop with the new Ivy bridge CPU is killing everything I throw at it. I don't even think my old 8800 gts could even match up with it.

The fact that it's integrated inside the CPU is astounding. I'm playing Far Cry 3 on low settings with DX 11 on and it's giving me playable fps.

It's an Asus ***A with the  Intel i5 3210M 2.5 Ghz. The New Ivy bridge CPU's are AMAZING. I haven't looked into computers in a while and last I heard, the cpu DIE size were 45nm, now it's 22nm wtf!?

It runs cool and blazing fast when it's on Performance Mode. I been playing Assassin's creed 3, Dishonored, Farcry 3, Borderlands 2, and League of Legends with no issues.

I tried skyrim but I needed to see the eye candy. It runs but on all low.

Edit: I toned my farcry 3 to DX9 instead of dx11 and it's giving me SMOOTH frame rates. I don't see a difference between the two anyways since all the settings are on low/med

My Windows 8 x64 System Builder disc should be flying in tonight and will be in my hands for a completely fresh install (reformating both drives) tomorrow. Then there's reinstalling everything all over again. Oh well. Worth it.

finally got mine all set up this past week. my old hdd isn't reading on it so i'm stuck with my 120gb ssd for now.

first build specs running on windows 8 pro
rosewill r5 case
asrock extreme 4

msi gtx 660
g. skill sniper 8gb

Windows 8 System Builder x64 DVD and a WD MyPassport USB 3.0 1 TB External Drive for backing stuff up.

Hopefully I get everything back up and running by tomorrow.

I need a laptop for my photography and video editing.. What system specification should i look for?

I am still running off a Dell Latitude D800 (it's like 10 years old) but I have it running on windows 7.

:pimp:

Tried windows 8 on my desktop, hated it. No wonder it is so cheap.

I couldnt agree anymore with you on this. Unfortunately, it looks like MS is moving fast to push people into a Windows 8 environment.

Microsoft warns gamers DirectX 11.1 is Windows 8-only

By Jon Fingas posted Nov 13th, 2012 at 9:07 PM 652

We hope there weren't too many PC gamers clinging to Windows 7 for dear life, because Microsoft isn't about to rescue them with a near-term DirectX update. The company's Daniel Moth (and supporting documentation) states that DirectX 11.1 is exclusive "for all practical purposes" to Windows 8-based platforms, including Windows RT and Windows Server 2012 -- you can't leap forward in media support without a full-on OS switch. None of the changes are large enough to trigger any immediate envy outside of the occasional fan of 3D glasses, but they could pose problems for conservative gamers in the long run if games and other visually intensive titles start demanding 11.1 as a baseline. There's no known plans to port the code back or release a harmonizing version, either. We can at least take comfort in knowing that Windows 8 upgrades are cheap enough to be low-hanging fruit for all but the most Metrophobic.

Yeah, the Metro UI is a pain in the @#$ on a Desktop. Added inconvenience. That Lockscreen, too. Can't disable it unless you're Windows 8 Pro. >:

Can't believe I have to pay $5 to get something they just disabled... :smh:

Other than that, things run smoothly. Rig boots up faster by a couple of seconds or so.

But then again, can't complain that much. Got Windows 8 x64 cheaper than what my sister got her Windows 7 Basic for. :smokin

Reinstalling Battlefield 3 and Project CARS later. Battlefield 3 Premium has taken me 24 hours to download so far... and counting. Still not done. Servers are so slow because of the Aftermath DLC. :smh:

Skype on Windows 8 is  >:

Why fix something that's not broken?

My only gripe about Windows 8 so far outside of the Start Menu thing is that it isn't intuitive. You can't even shut down your system right away. :smh:

But outside of that, it's definitely smoother.

sooooooo.... i'm liking my new set up.... but one thing i DO NOT like (and hopefully someone can fix)
i guess my windows 7 ult can read up to 2 terabytes when i click on "my computer"
and when i go to disk management i see nearly 750 gigs that are "unallocated" can someone tell me how to get these gigs back?

thanks

This is pretty easy. Go back to Disk Management and right click on the unallocated gigs. They should be shaded black if I'm correct. Then click New Simple Volume or Partition. Don't exactly remember the exact words. Do a quick format and select a drive letter and you should be good to go.

Anyone on Steam? Need some PC buddies to play with, add me: loque187
