Built a small NAS earlier today
1000

Would look cleaner, but I was in a rush. Took about an hour to build it and have Nas4free running smoothly.

Built it with free parts I had laying around.

When I get extra time, I'll build a smaller one in a Lian Li PC-Q25A with 5x WD 4tb red drives.

Sounds good. I use Synology NAS units. Super stable and never have to be reboot.

Tried FreeNAS and Nas4Free they weren't worth the effort for me. I wasn't trying to mess around and lose 2TB of data.

I have all my important stuff backed up on my main rig(documents, photos, and music)

Just gonna throw music and misc stuff I don't care about on the server.

looking at some wireless headsets and might end up getting the logitech G930 but was wondering if its any good or if you guys have any other recommendations. really looking for something under $100 if I can help it and probably gonna wait til BF to scoop it up. only reason I'm going wireless is I'm tired of tripping over the wires every time I have to step out. haven't really seen anything with terrific reviews so i'll settle for wireless headphones as well if I see some with decent reviews

I'm trying to build a budget PC for homework and gaming. Came up with this for $550ish, what do yall think?

No ssd?

since black friday is coming up, thought I'd upgrade my peripherals a bit so gonna be looking for a few things and if you guys can recommend me some then I'd appreciate it

trying to get a new keyboard specifically for gaming, preferably a back lit one, no g keys necessary. been looking at a few different models like the X4 sidewinder, some logitech ones, max keyboards since they're having a sale on it, razer, corsair, etc. Most likely going to go with whatever has a BF deal on it but can someone educate me what cherry switches, mechanical, etc are too.

Might look into a gaming mouse too, preferably wireless. don't need all the buttons on the side as well, maybe just a 5 button will do. I know its better if it's wired but definitely need a wireless one when I watch movies from my bed.

and I'm going to try to pick up the 27' IPS monitor from bestbuy unless another deal comes along from a better brand

Man .. A couple months ago I bought a new monitor to replace my old one since it wouldn't display anything.

Randomly today, I brought it back out to try a dual monitor set up, and lo and behold the monitor worked :wow:

20 minutes later, it doesn't. My emotions ...

Is there a way to change underscan/overscan settings WITHOUT going through Catalyst Center? For some reason it won't open, it keeps saying there are no settings for it to change. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, but still get the same message.

Placeholder to read in this thread, finna start building a cheap desktop for gaming, just mainly splurging on a GPU. What OS you guys running? Not really sure I feel like paying for Windows, might just run of the Linux OS's, I've installed Ubuntu on one of my comps before.

Since gaming will be your main focus, wait for Steam OS. It'll be free as well.

^^ Any Ubuntu distro should of the trick for now. However, if youre building a gaming desktop, using a linux os. You may want to wait until Steam OS is released. Linux doesnt have many huge gaming releases right now. You will be better served using other means of finding a copy of Windows. Not always meaning relegating yourself to piracy either.

bought the logitech g930 since it was up on amazon deal of the day a couple of days ago. student prime membership expired a while ago now I'm still waiting for it to be shipped :x

I stopped reading about components since I set up my PC last year so I'm definitely out of the loop. I usually research it once I get it and not before, guess that's just the slacker in me.
don't know much about adding RAM to my current rig, but do I need the same brand? I have a G.Skill sniper 8gb (2 4gb sticks). but do I just need to make sure they have the same mhz rating and timing? I'll probably end up buying the same ones if they go on sale in a few days but just wanted to know if I can put in another brand with the same rating and timing.

deciding if I should get a 27' monitor or just get another 23' monitor for a dual set up (one for gaming and one for browsing), been seeing all these deals for 23' but not sure if my gtx 660 would be enough for it.
