Official PC thread.

NT I'm looking to buy/build a PC soon. Is it still beneficial to build a PC instead of buying? Mainly going to be using it for trading stocks, studying, etc. Might game here and there. Any insight is appreciated.

Yes.

Always build.
Thanks.

What motherboards do you guys recommend? Looking to spend ~200-300, preferably one that is reliable.

really depends on you. you said light gaming and everything but also take into account how big you want your case to be. I had a lot of room to store my rig so I went with a full mobo and a big case but if you're short on space then I'd go with a micro atx. also take into consideration what kind of processor you want since it goes hand in hand with the mobo. then what kind of gpu you want for your games, mine barely fit and would almost hit the space for the HDs. You should be good with 2 sticks of ram so might not need 4 slots for it.

1000

Finally got around to upgrading this PC. So glad to kick that SG05 to the side

I used to play LoL but I haven't touched that in a year. Bunch of great PC games out there

Diablo 3
Starcraft 2
Payday 2
Bastion
Company of Heroes 2
DOTA 2
Kerbal Space Program
Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light
Civ 5
Any of the Total War games (Medieval, Rome, Shogun, etc)

Any game you can think of is available. Old and new. Except for GTA V

I still play AoE: Conqueror's Expansion from time to time.

Arguably the greatest RTS ever made.

^ Oh. The chances of toolpack purchase being re-opened looks highly doubtful at the moment. :\

A year still left in development, but the game is getting there (622 Builds and counting as of last night)... lots of talented members in the community.

Asked this awhile back and decided to hold back on the purchase till now. So I want to build a HTPC that can run XBMC, watch local files and possibly some MS office stuff/internet surfing. I'm thinking of getting either of these options with a 64 gb SSD and 8gb Ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856102053
Or

Just want to to know if I can do everything I specified with the i3 version with no problems or will I be better off with the i5 version. Another option is to build a HTPC from scratch. I don't want to spend more $550.
