NT, What Beer Do You Drink?

While we're on the subject of stouts: I just got back from a Finback tap takeover where I got to try BQExC and Barrel-Aged BQE.  Both bangers.

KBS came out by me today.  I had the option of driving around all afternoon picking up bottles here and there or getting the oil changed in my car. I chose the oil change.  I've made the mistake of getting hyped on that beer too many times to do the same this year.  Much prefer FBS and Founders Imperial Stout to KBS.

I understand the hassle associated with hyped beers. I feel lucky getting 2 sets of 15 and one 16. Fb post @1130. Was lucky to get away and get some by 1. Heard 15 gone by 230. Pretty much a typical Friday drive and 2 shop haul.

Quite a difference. Had to instantly do a blind side by side

Instant impressions. 15 felt a perfect ten fidy level of sweetness. 16 felt to have thinness, which may be more of the ibus picking up, more of a booze heat factor too. Coffee notes did win on 16

It's a tough call.

1200

For years, I tried some verticals without much success. For about the 3rd vertical in a row now, im picking up different notes better. A more refined drunk. Lol

FAM...

If you have an extra bottle of this and might be willing to do a trade, PLEASE let me know. I have a bunch of stuff right now that might interest you.

...also, I'm half Panamanian if that helps.

Lol, what's good Pana. I wish I had more on hand, a coworker picked up a couple of cases and was kind enough to give me a bottle. If I get a chance to drive up to Maine on the next release I'll keep you in mind. It's tough cause they always drop on a Saturday and I work on Saturdays. That whole area tho is just beer and food heaven.

KBS dropped here in Norcal as well. Gonna have to pass. Had it several times in the past and while good, I feel it's not worth the hassle.

KBS dropped here today, sold out in 2 hours this morning apparently at the beverage shop but I got a pack from my local grocery store. They were holding it behind the counter in the spirits section and I had to specifically ask about it to get some.

I was a bit appalled at the price but tried my first one tonight. It's good, doesn't compare to BCBS imo but the flavor is good. Most of all it just makes me appreciate regular FBS for half the price tho. FBS is my favorite "regular" stout for sure

It's funny because my spot got in KBS and I passed as well. They got quiet a few cases but I had no ambition to buy it. ^My thoughts were the same. They still have FBS and if I'm going to spend $26 or whatever it was on KBS, without a DOUBT I'd rather get a couple two/tree FBS (when comparing the two). I thought I was crazy for passing on this. Quiet frankly, KBS seems more hyped than Goose Island BCS...

It's an interesting perspective/experience that we all go through for the same beers. Founders hit my state last October. So this was the first KBS release ever. I really had no idea if it would hit my cities stores. 11am rolls around. FB post about '15 and '16 4 packs available. I get off early and arrive around 1, some 2 hours after fb post. I saw about 4 cases of 15 available, and 5 cases of 16. I walk in and out and its quite easy. Word is by 2pm, 15 is sold out, but 16 is still hanging around until 6pm. Compare that to black friday, and BF is a total mess where limits are so constrained and beers sell out within an hour. It feels like my area didnt know how to approach KBS release. Maybe consumers were unaware as well. So it does feel like in the future, it may not be worth the hassle if it becomes like GI BF.

But given the current price they were selling a 48 oz 4 pack of 12 oz bottles ($21 and $20). I I just could not say no to such a seamless transaction. At the current time, I feel its a 5 out of 5 beer (the 2015 vintage). And its definitely worth some time and effort. I am still used to dropping $14 to $18 on a small batch local brewery BBA 22 oz. bomber stout (which may not be as good). I think this KBS 48 oz. set marks quite a value compared to the 22 oz BBA bombers and even the 500ml 16.9 oz BCBCS bottles. I guess I understand the "hate" and I may just be in a lucky area. A 12 %abv stout should never NOT be bought if the four pack is below $25.. But that's just my opinion. Even at $25, its a deal.

Bottom line, given the current quantities and availability, this is a frickin steal (for my area). Nearly the same price as a a 22 oz bomber, and more than DOUBLE the quantity. $26/ 4 pack may be my limit. But I do get why some don't see it as worth it.

For my state, who doesnt get much, and Im happy when I see AVBC Blood Orange Gose, I guess I consider this a win and move on.

When I consider what FBS is available for compared to a KBS, I just don't know how to really react. I think I would easily want FBS at the much cheaper price point, but why not have both? I guess for the first time, and never to happen in my state again, there is a luxury aspect to enjoying both KBS and FBS without a drop... If anyone needs or wants to try one in a trade, it'd be at cost.. Cant beat that.

For my area,
IRREGARDLESS of the ABV, this KBS marked about a $9.65/ 22 oz. bomber, on a price/oz basis. That seems unheard of for a world class product. It was pretty much were BCBS was in my area (for a two year span).

I guess it's all numbers, but a $26/four pack is definitely better than a $16/22 oz. bomber, given the same sort of quality.

Didn't care as much this year to get KBS like I did the past couple of years

I checked a couple of grocery stores to see if I would be surprised by them having it but they didn't...I was surprised to see Sunday Morning Stout at the one though

May go try it on draft though next week

#TeamStout back at it again !! :pimp: :pimp: :pimp:
Stouts all year for the most part for me. So far I've been drinking Lefthand Nitro Milk Stout with dinner on the regular. Pretty good stuff [emoji]128077[/emoji][emoji]127997[/emoji][emoji]128077[/emoji][emoji]127997[/emoji]

Please do. I'm taking a trip up to mass this summer for some beer activities, but I won't be able to make it up to Maine this year.

Thanks homie!

Stumbled upon a few of these during my travels this morning:

Overall I'm liking this year's version.  ABV is up from last year, but I'm not picking up too much booze. Flavors are nice, but as Wally noted the mouthfeel is extremely thin considering the ABV and the style.  I was also lucky enough that the bottle shop I went to held onto some 2015 bottles, so I picked one up in the process.

Might go check out another bottle shop around the corner from me to see if they still have any left/see if I can find some hidden gems in the process.

Happy Sunday, NT.

Felt a bit like Wally today

Went to a couple of places to seek out Founders Mosiac Promise...neither had it but the one had 4 pack cans of Spring House Big Gruesome which I had only seen in twelve packs since they started canning a couple of months ago...grabbed one at $7.49 which I was really pleased with because most 4 packs are 6 pack price...probably few on here are familiar since their out of state distribution is a little bit of New Jersey to my knowledge, but it's a really good peanut butter stout

Since neither place had Mosisc Promise, I went back to the grocery store that had it yesterday for a sizer and ended up picking up their last 4 pack of Sunday Morning Stout as well when I found it it was only $15

Pilsner :x

Haha. Not a big fan myself.

Had a concrete beach brewery's Rica last night. I like it, reminded me of two hearted ale. Its suppose to be a wipa but I didn't taste any wheat(fortunately). Less citrus than two hearted.

Too much like Corona and bud light?

I find lately the flavor is much better on a craft scale. For awhile, most lager/pils were iffy. But some consumers don't see the value in a sub 5% craft beer still costing 8 bucks a sixer. I have a local brewery where it seems everyone's drinking their 7% wit bier. Drunk status is imminent. Same with another place where people are going straight to a 7.2 percent ipa, in 22 oz. serving sizes. I think inherently we are all just humans wanting to catch a really nice buzz. Both places have a quality pilsner but at some 2.5% less than other same priced beers, they just aren't having it.

A lot of people have bad experiences with the macro swill. So they don't want anything close. I actually find many munich helles lagers, and german pilsners by local craft breweries enjoyable. Even Pilsener Urquell is sitting at about $13/12 pack. You really can't beat that. No hate Chopper, But I truly stay open to all styles.

Peak nut brown ale tonight. Roasted flavor like a stout on the back end. Sweet malt and grassy hops upfront. Not bad but the flavors could mix better. I wouldn't call it smooth(for a brown ale).

Tryed fat head ipa. Has tons of flavor. I asked for something somewhat similar to two hearted. I like it.

Is there any difference in the Insurgente labeled Xoco vs Stone? Saw it available the other day.

Insurgente has a pretty solid IPA. Looking forward to seeing what Mexico has to bring with the craft scene.

I need that parabola. Anyone willing to part with some for some La Cumbre Father Nelson, A big nelson sauvin DIPA set to release within the next 3 weeks?
