Never had it, but I'm somewhat skeptical about how much good the champagne yeast is going to do for a beer like this. Time will tell, I reckon.

I saw something funny tonight at Total Wine... Alaskan Smoked Porter 2012 alongside their 2013 (same sku/label).. What a bargain. It goes to show that they are truly buying backstock/older items. It just so happens to work out well for the stouts that sit. I have been very weary of buying hopped beer there, and this is that nail in the coffin.. Hefe's and other styles I can deal with some age. My TW hasn't been around for more than 7 months, but they have 2012 porter sitting acting like a new item? (they did this with ten fidy. A new item restock of old stout. But it obviously works in that beers favor)
I ended up picking a 2012 smoked porter and a Clown Shoes Vampire Slayer imperial stout as a christmas gift for a family member. I will keep them outside wrapped and bring them in when its time to open, hoping they share some lol. Have any of you guys tried those two?
At both TW locations local to me, no sign of any Abyss or BCBS products. Ghost status. That place now may be so popular that its the first place to sell out of something. You now really have to go to those obscure places.

Scored on a trip to ABC yesterday. Opted for the barley wine Over the stout as I've heard great things from this years batch. Busting out the first one today. $18.99 for the 4-pack.

Wally..with their Smoked Porter, I know that Alaskan always hold back previous year's bottlings specifically to release the next year or two down the line for verticals.

I need guidance, NT: what beer should I drink/review right now? Choices are Stone Imperial Russian Stout, Great Divide Oak-Aged Yeti, Founders Bolt Cutter, and Brooklyn Black Ops. First response wins. Choose wisely.

I started a christmas feast a bit early with this sampling last night
3-4 week old Marble Imperial IPA
Piney/Citrus flavors/Very typical of a west coast style IPA. 8% abv. It actually drank a bit heavier than that. From the malt sweetness, to the heavy mouth feel. I actually prefer their traditional IPA, a 6.8% beer. Sometimes breweries tweek something just a touch and it messes up the balance.. The beer had a ton of hop floaties in it too. That added a touch more of a hop flavor... I still give it a 93/100. But that crisp easy drinking mouth feel I find in Lagunitas Sucks and a IPA like Elevated IPA, is not here with this Marble beer. It reminds me a bit of Odell's Mychenary and a few other iIPAs. Also, this beer had some great presentation. Constant bubbles for the duration of the drink leaving a solid 1/4 inch of foam. Lacing all over the glass. Presentation and smell were stellar. The taste was a bit heavy for my tastes.. I hate sipping IPAs and letting them get too warm.
2012 Deschutes Abyss
Rated among the best by beer drinkers everywhere. I found this to be incredibly bitter, like a 70-30 ratio of that bitterness just taking over all of the other tastes. I wanted the chocolate notes and roastiness to creep in but it never seemed to balance. Incredibly easy to drink despite the ABV. Like the bottle states, you get hints of bourbon, chocolate, licorice, cherry bark. Sadly I may not ever want to revisit this knowing this beer once retailed for $12. Stone RIS and even some local Marble IS is a bit cheaper and doesn't carry that bitterness.. Did I get a bad bottle? I'd say its still easily a top imperial stout, but one of the best? I tend to prefer a touch of sweetness like a Ten Fidy provides.. Maybe the bitterness helped to balance some booziness that I never seemed to find? Should I give it some credit. This ones tough to gauge give its price.. 96/100

Had the day off, so I headed over to Big Choice Brewing in nearby Broomfield, Co. to grab a pint of their Hawaiian Christmas firkin...their Type III IPA with Lilikoi juice. And instead of playing Christmas tunes, they were playing trad & 2Tone ska.
Now I'm home and drinking a Dogfish Festina Peche and cranking some Old Man Markley...no need for hokey Xmas tunes around here.

I would have said Bolt Cutter as well. Haven't gone wrong with a Founders beer yet. Although I'm curious about that Black Ops.

Drinking the breuerys 4 calling birds. It's so good. Pairing it with some of TCHOs chocolatey dark chocolate. Wish I would of dropped by 2 days ago for some 2012 gray Monday.
