NT, What Beer Do You Drink?

Picked up bottles of Rochefort 8 and 10 on the recommendation of a friend who works at a restaurant with mostly Belgian beers.

Haven't opened any of them yet, but from what he has told me, the 10 can go head to head and even beat out Westy 12.

Anyone try them here?
I've had Westy 12 and Rochefort 10.

While Belgian Quads  aren't exactly my thing, I would say I prefer Rochefort.

This goober agrees, apparently:

^Nice!

Have not had the opportunity try Westy 12, but I have had St. Bernardus.

Chimay Blue was the beer that introduced and propelled me into the world of "good" (for lack of a better word) beer, so dubbels, tripels, and quads are something I do enjoy. I will be trying the 10 tonight.

My excuse to drink this is dude who said I shouldn't wait more than a day. I have two growlers left though I bought Saturday night so might as well. Bringing one to a party tomorrow and was gonna save this for Friday but guess that's a bad idea huh?

I originally bought 4 growlers to bring back home to DC with me. My parents neighbor opened this brewery a year or too ago. This is a Belgian Dubbel. Omega I think it's called. I'm going to be wasted if I drink this whole growler tonight though it's like 10%

Just went on a cruise and bought the unlimited drink package. There was a craft beer bar on the ship :x

Nothing out of theordinary though. But I did try the black and blue/black and white and now I'm hooked. I've had them before but something about it this time. Planning on making a black and tan with Pumpking tonight.
Holy *****......how have I never thought about that?! 8)

Lol my wife actually came up with it. I told her I was feenin for the black and tan since we been off the ship and we need some guiness. She said, "Do you have the tan? Oh yea, the pumpking" and I'm like :wow: MARRY ME (again).

Had something like this from mccomick and shmick, Guinness mixed with something pumkin. Not bad.

Anyone use Untappd?

Couple guys in here do.
jnance88 is mine

got some nice beer mail the other night.
thanks Wally!

Too bad Sixpoint just put those out

I was in Brooklyn 5 days last week

Unfortunately hardly anywhere in PA (and I'm pretty sure nobody in my area despite being about a 3.5 hour from Brooklyn) carries Sixpoint

I wanted to try Sweet Action up before I went there and didn't...my wife wanted to pick something when we were at the store we saw it at

I did pick up a six pack of Bengali at Trader Joes in Brooklyn...I assume it was fresh considering Sixpoin is probably just a couple of miles from the store and the BB date was 9/24/15

I finally tried my first beer from Evil Twin. The Cowboy smoked porter. It's really tasty.

Sculpin is already being consumed.

I gotta say. I want to get away from trades but the thrill of opening up a box is an adult version of christmas. I dint think it will end. Great group of traders on here thus far

Enjoy Wally! That Wookey Jack is a surprise. Kind of like Nighttime from Lagunitas. Expecting big roasty flavors because of the color and then the hops hits you.

Jbug, any issue on bottling date of Wookey? It's mid june, probably the seasonal release date. Is the abv enough to round it out to be aged somewhat? Im guesing yes. Month old gf sculpin is real real nice. Glad i asked for 6. By nfl Sunday, nothing shall be left.

Trading, i feel incredible guilt until thr package actually arrives. It saves me money from getting $4 dos equis at random restaurants. That's about the only saving grace i can tell myself. A $5 pint of something i can't get is better than the junk i can

I have Pumking but no Guinness. I'll be sure to change that after work today

I even thought of using my Founders Oatmeal stout for the top but I'm gonna start with Guinness. I'm sure I could Google it, but did you just slower pour that outta the can over a spoon or something?

Stupid question.. Do you taste the black first? It seems like it would be the first beer to hit your lips. Do the flavors ever mix? I just have never been a part of the black and tan craze and or any other blue moon or OTHER type of mixed drink situations... Not to say that I wouldnt want to mix IPAs together, to get a better flavor profile. I have just never done anything of that sort.

Anyone see what Guiness is trying to do the capture the "craft" crowd?

An amber seems alright. Price point is KILLER though. I can get a 2012 BBA stout for that same price, plus shipping fees.

Guiness as a whole is just so super light and almost flavorless. Any type of craft porter or oatmeal stout should provide a better experience.. Even the guiness stout stew that I make is one that I take the guiness out of. I throw in some local stout...

Kickhead23, I would go with the Guiness Foreign Extra Stout (yellow label). It has higher ABV and considerably more flavor.. I just cant get down with the lightness that is the normal Guiness Draught. The flavors dont make sense to me. I'd even go with a stout like Deschutes Obsidian or Sierra Nevada Stout. Then again maybe the 4.2% guiness compliments the 7% DFH a lot better than two 7%ers together.

meyer23 meyer23 Yea just pour the pumpkin in about 2/3 of the glass and then put a spoon over the glass with the bubbled end up and pour super slow.

wallyhopp wallyhopp You are able to taste both flavors at the same time if you pour it right. You have to keep them separate or it just becomes a blend. The idea is that when you tip the glass sideways the Guinness is still on top so you taste it but the bottom beer creeps up the side of the glass under the stout so you taste that as well. I got a little happy with the Guinness as you can see from my pic so I had to drink a bit off the top before the aforementioned effect took place. If you just blend it together it wouldn't taste the same. So I'm not sure about you mixing IPA's.

Also, I'm a big fan of REAL stouts, as you may have seen me post on here. However, your assumptions were correct. The subtleness of the underwhelming Guinness is always best for this combo so its not a big shock from flavor to flavor. It basically adds a good body to a lighter beer. Its worth a try at least once imo. My favorite is the Black and white (Hoegarden).

New to the thread, but a big beer advocate...

I bought Flying Dog "In Heat Wheat" last week...Eh. Mediocre at best for a wheat beer...

I also got Yuengling "Octoberfest"...that was pretty good.

And I've been buying Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin every weekend while it's available.
