NT, What Beer Do You Drink?

Definitely don't give up on a style based off of one beer. It may take dozens to find a suitable beer. Heck you may even love a beer that others are too "snobby" about. Accessibility seems to be a detractor for many beer fans out there. Too easy to get and that allure just isnt there.

^how fresh is that Lagunitas Sucks? I have passed on it so many times now that I know others around me around buying, and it's the same batch that I bought many months ago.

Finishing off some Myrcenary tonight. I really really like it. But that wow factor isnt qutie there for me. This reminds me of Hoptimum and/or Illinois by Goose Island... Hop aroma and bite seem a bit generic/tradtional pine/citrus/floral element.. Taste is a very sweet heavy malt bite. It finishes lighter/dryer. I'd push this one down more to the 90-92 range.. 96 seems high.. Same with their IPA. These days it seems like every brewery has a 90 BA IPA, and I feel this one is one among a group of others that are GREAT. I can't see it standing out among the rest though.

It's not bright or tropical fruit tasting (label says tropical fruit like flavors should be there). It's borderline swampy. Which is what I tasted when I had it first (not a very fresh bottle). It's at that aging stage of becoming a heavily malted beer with hints of random hops.. I'm going from 4 to 4.5 back to 4, then back to 4.5 range with this one. IPAs have to be judged at the highest level. Competition is stiff. I may get more if its fresh, otherwise, easy pass. Worth a try I guess. Odell is apprently just in the SW, and midwest area.. I would say you aren't quite missing much with this brewery if you can't get it locally

Boy Was I wrong about stout beers. Cracked open Founders Breakfast Stout, that thing is delicious. I guess SA MerryMaker just wasnt my type. Ballast Point Sculpin IPA, pretty damn good. [emoji]128526[/emoji]

FBS is one of my fave stouts. That chocolate and coffee :smokin.

sooo good. aromas was chocolate and coffee but not overly sweet and it had this wood characteristic. the taste was great. chocolate and coffee, more like dark chocolate. it wasn't too sweet and at the back end it had a distinct note like vanilla and smokiness. i think it is the smoked cherrywood. the body is thick and coats the tongue well. so well balanced as well. one of my favorite stouts this year. and at 12% you cant taste the alcohol at all. i highly recommend it.

I may have to gracefully bow out this thing for a bit. 1 or 2 give me a migraine now (the reason I'm up). **** getting old.

Went to my boys Christmas party last night...he finally broke out a stash of Sierra Bigfoot he's been sitting on for 6 years. He had six 6-packs. 2008-2013. He only opened a bottle from each year but damn. Tasting the difference by year was interesting. The 2008 was incredibly smooth.

Thanks fellow NTer.. Not sure why I sat on this FW Double DBA bomber.. Almost all bourbon notes in smell and taste initially. It's 12% abv, but seems to taste much much lighter. Both in mouthfeel and overall taste, it feels lighter than many of the heavier stouts.. I think I prefer this mouthfeel and heat level compare to the likes of BCBS (12% vs 13.8%). Some IPAs I love at 8%. But once they reach a certain level around 9.4%, the malts and mouthfeel take over...

This DOUBLE DBA is something else.. Now I wonder if I should have aged it... I compare it locally to a Marble Reserve Ale.. I have a 2012 I'll be busting out very soon, so there may be some level of comparison coming up. Very solid stuff.. I'm still sitting on a velvet merkin that I may bust out with two other normal oatmeal stouts.. I just need a solid day off to accomplish a three beer sampling .

I'd even say it's much like Backwoods bastard.. I hate comparing three different styles just because they are barrel aged. But their lighter than normal color and mouthfeel leads me to comparing them all together

Just had Great Lakes Eliot Ness. Caramel flavor, really clean. I'm super excited because I think I'm finally starting to taste different flavors in beers. It's been five years or so haha.

Jelly, I am. I've only sampled 2009 on. Had one 2006, but I love how Bigfoot develops with time.

In Orlando for work this week. Stopped by the local ABC liquors and put a nice 6 pack together:
Prairie Christmas bomb x 2
Breakfast stout
Double trouble x 2
Two hearted ale
I was very surprised they had the Christmas bomb in stock. Living in Dallas- I had it over the weekend but coming across it twice in 48 hours was nice.
Definitely one of the more expensive sixers in quite some time.

Hit up Lagunitas yesterday for the tour. Pretty dope place! They had a nice tasting room and got to try some fresh beer. They have a tap room but it's closed on Monday and Tuesday cause they lend it out to charities and such, pretty cool, really. Here's a few pics. Would recommend it for sure if you're in the area. They play the Willy Wonka song down that blue hallway when it first starts

And only beer I bought was this: very good and it's from their first batch they've ever made.

And a little history/cool stories:

Our guide told us during the tastings that the reason  Lagunitas (Brown Shugga) Sucks is named that is because back when they made the original Lagunitas brown shugga, they ran out and every body was pissed off. They couldn't make more because something broke and they were waiting on the new part to come in. Well to satisfy the customer, they made another variataion of it and they said "fine, we'll do it but it's going to suck" hence the name of Lagunitas Sucks which is just about to surpass the original in sales and I believe as their best seller.

Also, when they made A Little sumpin sumpin, they were all sitting around with the brew-master who made that beer and they couldn't figure out a name and were getting restless.Guy who made the beer got up all pissed off and goes "hell with this, I'm outta here" and went to leave when someone else at the table spoke up and said "you aren't going any where until we name this beer". the brew-master said "fine, but i'm going outside to some a little sumpin' sumpin'" and that's how that was named.

Just getting into this craft beer thing, tried a few the other day Chimay Blue(ok) Terrapin RecreationAle(did not like),and West 6th Cocoa Porter(again ok,added points for being local). Can I get some recommendations,my tastes haven't developed much past "American Lager" or similar styles, for reference my favorite beer is Golden Export at Gordon Biersch. So any recommendations would be helpful as I'm new to this.I live in KY so things that are available in the Midwest are the most readily available...Thanks

Chimay Blue was only ok? It was one of the first "better" beers I had starting out and it blew my mind. I thought it was very drinkable and palatable for the naive tongue.

Maybe try something on this list?

Does anyone have Instagram? I'm going to start posting under the hashtags #NTbeers and #TeamCraftBeer I think.

Picked up the two base sours. I had zero luck with the fruit sours.
I lucked out and was able to snag the Peach and Nectarine one. Didn't bother with the grape one cause I haven't had many grape sours that I thought were that great. However, I did pick up a bottle of Upland Vinosynth Red because I haven't had a bad sour from them yet.

Try different styles of beers from a good craft brewery available to you to figure out what you like

Had some Prairie Brimstone Bomb! the other day. Damn good Imperial Stout. Also had a small sample of the Christmas Bomb! that someone else ended up getting. I did like it but definitely not as much as the Brimstone. Shame that they never last any longer than one day down here.

Also planning on getting some Homebrew equipment over the beginning of the New Year. Gotta get some good books on homebrewing.
