Stephen Drew to the Yankees - 1 year, $5M.

Looks like the Nats really might be rolling into Spring Training with an open competition for 2B between Danny Espinosa and Dan Uggla :smh: :x

Trade for Zobrist, Rizzo!

Nat are probably hoping that whatever eye problem Uggla had and got fixed recently was the reason for him struggling big time.

Rizzo gonna do something when the time and offer/price is right. He's been good money since we got him....this ain't the skins

I trust Rizzo, just can't tell what his plan is. 2B market is extremely thin. Only move that would be an upgrade without giving up much right now would be Zobrist, however I wouldn't be surprised if he swings a blockbuster and deals one of Desmond/Zimmermann/Fister.

And the Skins fortunes might be changing with the new GM signing :pimp: ...but, then again, they are still being run by Dan Snyder.

Eff Schilling
Read that Grantland article?
Nah, link? I was just looking at all the numbers today before the induction. Using traditional stats, all three are pretty much identical players. Throw in the new age stats and Mussina & Schilling separate themselves a little bit from Smoltz. I love Smoltz though and enjoy his commentary on MLB Network, he definitely deserves to be in the Hall. Not saying his commentary is a reason he should be in the Hall  just enjoy listening to him over Billy Ripken or Tom Verducci.

John Smoltz is also the first and only pitcher to have Tommy John surgery go into the hall of fame

Looking at some of these percentages got me very upset yesterday.

Hopefully with only Griffey as a guaranteed and Edmonds as a maybe, Raines and Piazza can get in.

But some of these are outrageous. You send Biggio in there but Bagwell can't even get 60%? Frank Thomas walks in because he's a good guy and denounces PED's. Schilling 39? Mussina 24? But Tom Glavine waltzes in because he got to 300 wins. Jesus  some of these old ***** and Pedro Gomez just need to die off already.

Solid article. Interesting that they see Smoltz being versatile as a reliever/starter as kind of an insignificant quality:

"The portrayal of Smoltz as a Swiss Army ace relies on shaky logic: Every elite starter has the ability to be a dominant closer, and Smoltz shouldn’t get extra credit for the fragility that temporarily forced his team to use him in a less valuable role. After all, Mussina wouldn’t be a better candidate if he’d taken a sabbatical from starting to pitch out of the bullpen for Baltimore."

So basically Schilling is in the same boat as Clemens? Great pitcher but was on juice and will never get in.

When was Schilling ever associated with PED's? He's just like Frank Thomas, he's been speaking out against it for as long as I can remember. The only controversy I recall was him saying Boston management recommended him taking them to recover from an injury in 08.

If Jack Morris could get voted in on the narrative on one goddamn post season start, Schilling should be able to dance in for possibly the greatest post season ever pitching wise.

schilling seems like the type of dude to denounce peds but probably had been doing them the whole time  he'll get in next year

I thought Curt came out and said he took some stuff. I can't remember what it was called but it's not necessarily steroids but it was still frowned upon. He talked about it casually on TV and people didn't like that or trust him.

You could be right. I thought he was on baseball tonight talking about something that he used to help recover but it was frowned upon. This was a few years ago so I could be off
