moving forward if Syndergaard becomes who he can be, that's a guy with 1A potential. Matz has great stuff. bigger picture, this team potentially can field one of the best staffs in baseball for the foreseeable future.

this year, a healthy 1-2-3 of harvey, degrom and colon is good enough to go toe to toe with anyone. if niese is just solid enough and we can good situational hitting, making the playoffs and making some noise is doable.

degrom was a lightly regarded prospect who greatly outperformed projections once, if it does it for 30 more starts I'll start to believe he's more than the doug martin of pitchers, colon was a 3 last year, and i believe he will be a quality 3 this year, but at his age it can all come down at any moment , syndergaard is absolutely nothing at this point (TINSTAAPP) when he gets called up and performs then talk. still have very little hitting.

the larger point is that prospects and pitching staffs are two of the last projecatble things in baseball and you're trying to bank on both of them and 13 games of regular season baseball. AND you're a METS FAN you should know better

i like degrom...I do think colon will be struggling by June


It's a long season because the Braves was crushing the whole division through June

i do know better i've been watching this team my whole life and can tell this is the best team they've had since 08 and this is a very winnable division. deGrom is the real deal. there's no need to see 30 starts. he limits contact in the zone, he doesn't allow many homeruns, he strands runners and doesn't give up many walks. he's legit. colon can break down you're right, but if these arms continue this path, they're gonna be damn tough to beat.

and the offense, well, it's a blue collar offense. guys are working counts, taking good cuts, putting the ball in play, not forcing anything, doing the little things. i'm confident in this team. and it isn't just 13 games, it's their approach and the way they're handling things.

and Ubaldo jiminez was the best pitcher ever for 1 season, i need to see more. talent>>>skill over large sample sizes otherwise everybody with a great work ethic in AA would have a long mlb career, so expect your bats to chill out. enjoy it while it last, but i would chill on the trash talk for your own sake

DeGrom is definitely legit.

Wheeler coming back next year too, Syndergard at some point, Matz has been shining as well. The pitching in the pipeline is ridiculous. We may joke around here in April maybe the past 5 years but I never thought we had ****. After last year, I sad this team is ready to contend for a playoff spot and it looks like I was on track. Add some more bats next season, I'd say we are for real title contenders.

Any team can be credited/discredited and in baseball especially anything can happen. But this team is young and has some very good players, this start is not a complete abirration, many predicted this/saw it coming.

Have to just hope to stay around .500 until everyone gets healthy.

and you can't compare ubaldo to degrom. degrom has much better command and pitching intellect than ubaldo. ubaldo got by on raw stuff that faded away.

Ubaldo's mechanics are so bad. Dude has zero chance of being consistent.
 
you dont need a team full of guys that crush the ball. just from watching the giants these years and the royals last year, getting good situational hitting to compliment very good pitching is enough to make noise in this league. mets have the guys necessary to do the little things, move runners, make contact, etc. adding a power hitter would definitely assist the club more, but there's a bright future here. just wish we had a better shortstop.

my bad the guy i quoted below was the main trash talker, degrom doesnt have #2 talent which means he cant ever slip, thats a lot of pressure, which is why I'm slow to believe.

the bolded part is very very true, but it takes a lot to talk yourself into a mets run but not much to discredit it. there is NEVER a time when everyone is healthy. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A PITCHING PROSPECT
 
we'll see how they do without d'arnaud for the next 6 weeks. he's been a big part of their success.

and yeah i know pitching prospects could be a crapshoot, i grew up with generation k flaming out, but i like the arms we have in the pipeline a lot.

confirmation bias, lincecum and sale dont exactly have great mechanics but they succeeded for prolonged periods, but yes ubaldo is a 4-5 who might surprise you once in a while

at least yall avoided that tulo contract, the man is never healthy and mets luck probably wouldnt of helped
