What's a game score though?

GmSc - Game Score - This is a value created by Bill James that evaluates how good a pitcher's start was.

Start with 50 points. Add 1 point for each out recorded, (or 3 points per inning). Add 2 points for each inning completed after the 4th. Add 1 point for each strikeout. Subtract 2 points for each hit allowed. Subtract 4 points for each earned run allowed. Subtract 2 points for each unearned run allowed. Subtract 1 point for each walk.

 It really is. It tries to encapsulate how well a pitcher performs in a vacuum without digging much deeper than what shows up in the box score.

One could consider it arbitrary and pointless.

I was gonna say the same thing

Assigning a score to every pitcher in a consistent manner isn't arbitrary to judge games versus each other...

But some of the assigned values are arbitrary as ****

Flores

6 home run total last season. Five this year already. I am glad Alderson didn't give him up. I think Flores will improve his defense.

They got a kid in the minors, Amed Rosario that's supposed to be the goods at SS. But he's 18. So I can see them sticking with Flores till he's ready.

Marlon Byrd has hit like 5 HR's in the past two weeks. I was bummed the Mariners were thinking about signing him, but he's started the season off well. 8 homers. Only hitting .226 though.
