Anyone know why Buck Showalter is talking about the Yankees signing Matt Wieters next year? I thought that was suspicious

TAMPA, Fla. -- The way Buck Showalter sees it, Alex Rodriguez's possible suspension will mean that the New York Yankees will end up with Baltimore Orioles catcher Matt Wieters in two years.

If Rodriguez is suspended for all of next season, the Yankees would not have to pay the embattled slugger's $25 million salary for 2014. The unpaid money would not count against the luxury tax and revenue sharing, which would make it much easier for the Yankees to fall under team owner Hal Steinbrenner's goal of a $189 million payroll for 2014.

I don't know if they'd go after Wieters...but I get Buck's point. Yankees want out of this contract in the worst way.

this PED stuff is becoming a joke. Just suspend everybody on the list for the remainder of the season and move on next year. If you get caught after that you're automatically banned.

This PED attack is a laughable joke. Guys have been using for years and all of sudden they decide to go after this group of guys. Get real. This is all about A-Rods contract and the luxury tax attached to it. Selig and the Yankees are clowns.

Yup

Had a lot of respect for Buck until I read his interview with the USA Today. He's basically saying we shouldn't be freed of Alex's contract during his suspension. Come on, you gotta good team and you're whining about out money and luxury tax? Shut the **** up

He's always been bitter since he was fired.

The Yankees should have to pay the contract and luxury tax of A-Rod even if he's suspended. It gives them an out of a ridiculous contract. The Yankees clearly don't want A-Rod on the field and it's evident by the actions of Cashman from a couple weeks ago.

You offered a player a contract and should have to honor it in fairness to other teams. I'm not saying A-Rod should get paid but donate the money to charity like what happens with fines.

This will be setting a horrible precedent. Watch the Angels try to get Albert and Hamilton banned for life lol

Buck sounding like a *****.

I hate the yankees and would love to see them have to pay A-Rod's contract but there is no reason they should have to. Why only A-Rod? Why shouldn't the brewers still have to pay Braun's salary this season?

A-Rod used to be my guy. Look what he turned into  what a sad end to a career.
