Listening to sports talk radio on the way to work today.  The host said "Alex Rodriguez is the most hated player in Major League history."

Agree or disagree?

unfortunately, i think that title goes to your buddy, mr. bonds. undeservedly, imo.

The talk show host's rebuttal to that (when it was brought up by his co-host), was that at least in Bonds' case, he had the ENTIRE San Francisco fanbase (and to a lesser extent, the Pittsburgh Pirates fanbase), that absolutely loved him.  With Alex Rodriguez, you cant even say that his own fanbase loves him....as the overwhelming majority of the Yankee fanbase hates his guts.

bonds will have his statue and number retired
i dont think any team wants to do that for arod

When was the last time A-rod was in the news for something positive? I feel like it's been forever.

I think he is just as hated as Barry but the difference was that Barry had more supporters than Arod IMO.

The Pirates fanbase definitely does not love him

But BB still has more supporters than A Rod IMO . Plus BB is still more respected as a player (begrudgingly by some)

A-Rod or Clemens. Nobody really claims Clemens anymore do they?

Either way, this is a cluster ****. You are suspended for the rest of the year Alex......

In the lineup tonight.

Arod likely wouldn't have had his number retired with any team even if he was likeable. Mariners no, Rangers no, Yankees possible.

Alex is more "covered" than hated....because he resides in NY and dated celebs. He's got serious heat yeah....but he's also looked at as a flake or caricature, and he still has people who consider him a "nice guy."

Bonds was a true villain who perfected the role and was despised. Not laughed at (like ARod)....despised. Those summers when Bonds was creeping past 700 were straight

211 games is the official number for him huh?  Cant wait to watch him play this week.

I was simply stating what was said on the radio today.  I have no real knowledge of how Pittsburgh fans feel.  Do they despise him like the rest of baseball?  Like I said, I dont know personally how Pirates fans feel about Barry....but if I had to guess, I would guess their feelings are closer to Giants fans than Barry haters.

dmxfury?  Can you speak on this?

all this chaos going on in baseball...

and aroid is just there masturbating.

Honestly what I know is Pitt hates him more than other fans. Part due to him leaving and part due to his actions/attitude off the field. Some other Pirate fans can either confirm or deny, but that's my take. Regardless his baseball skill is still (again begrudgingly) respected. I just wish he could've hit in the post season just once or been able to throw out Sid F'in Bream

I love A-Rod to death man, but for some reason everything he says comes off as so disingenuous.

I'm rooting for him, though.

I think he's coming off very well for the circumstances. Way better than McGwire or Raffy haha

Just as we lamented the end of the line for known performance-enhancing amphetamine users Hank Aaron (see page 268) and Willie Mays, I'll be doing the same for A-Rod. Whether chemically enhanced like Aaron, Mays, and 19th-century pitcher Pud Galvin or clean, Rodriguez was a breathtaking player to watch, one of the greatest of all time. He won three MVP awards and probably deserved at least three more, having led the American League in Wins Above Replacement six times. He was a five-tool player manning the toughest non-catcher position in the game, coming up with fellow shortstop stars Derek Jeter and Nomar Garciaparra and putting up numbers that dwarfed both of theirs.
