LaCava Turns Down Baltimore GM Job.

Spoiler [+]
In a Hot Stove season that generally focuses on organizational acquisitions, multiple league sources reported yesterday that Tony LaCava has turned down the general manager position with the Baltimore Orioles and will remain the assistant general manager with the Toronto Blue Jays.

The intriguing aspect of this development, however, is not that LaCava turned down Baltimore in favor of Toronto. It’s more that nobody in the baseball community believes he made the wrong choice. In fact, national writers immediately took to Twitter with snide comments such as: “Nobody blames him.

Mistake IMO. Fire Quade during or after this season. That team isn't going anywhere this year, let him take the losses instead of your first hire.

So you throw Ryno into the fire right away? This team is gonna struggle pretty badly this year and possibly the next. You want your first managerial hire to turn out to be a big failure and start off that bad? IDK, that brings a lot of heat to upper management. I would let Quade stick it out for a year and start fresh with Ryno next year after a year where you'll be getting rid of contracts and would have invested more in the farm.

Naw, I don't sweat ANY of that.  We ain't won in 103 years, people can settle the @#$% down.  Ryno is BELOVED as a Cub, put him in there, the face of the team, WITH Theo, people will need to trust their plan, I don't give a crap if Ryne loses some games with a bad holdover roster.  I could care less.  Hiring a nobody nothin or a proven anybody won't change the talent level one bit, I'll know it, players will know it, everyone will know it.

Start fresh, here ya go, the Old face of the franchise, is now the NEW face of the franchise, he'll learn along with the guys Theo brings in, he'll work with them, develop them, and we'll hit the ground runnin in a couple years.  Why bring someone in, suck for a couple years, THEN bring in yet another new manager?  What purpose does that serve?

If people are too stupid to start bashing Ryno after one bad 70 win season next year with no eye to the future, then they should be shot anyways, we need forward thinking, not save your job Billy Hunter style thinking right now.

Bro, they're Cub fans
laugh.gif
they still blame a goat and Bartman for having teams that choked
laugh.gif
you don't think if they have a couple bad seasons in a row that they'll start to question the hire and Theo/Hoyer as a team?

The purpose of keeping Quade around and letting him suck for a year is because they'll be busy rebuilding the franchise from the bottom up. They have one of the absolute worst farm systems in the league so help ain't really coming from there anytime soon and if it does, it won't be enough. They need time to build and construct the team as they want it. Why have Ryno suffer and have fans start to question him (and you) right out of the gate?

Theo is the new beginning, gotta have "his" guy from jump.  Quade sitting there taking losses is great, unless his teachings aren't helping anybody, know what I mean?  It's possible Ryno could bring that teaching in that Theo wants.  And I may be ahead of myself, it may not even be Ryno he's after, I'm just guessing.

The St. Louis Cardinals have received permission from the Philadelphia Phillies to interview Ryne Sandberg for their vacant managerial job, a baseball source familiar with the situation confirmed to ESPN.com's Jayson Stark.

Sandberg

Sandberg is a franchise icon with the Chicago Cubs, and he was a finalist last year to replace Lou Piniella as manager. But Mike Quade, who was informed he will not return as Cubs manager Wednesday, got the job after leading the Cubs to a 24-13 record in the final six weeks after Piniella retired. Chicago finished 71-91 in 2011.

Sandberg confirmed to the Daily Herald that new Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein called Sandberg on Wednesday and told him he will not be considered for the managerial vacancy with the team this time around.

Well, there is your answer............

Is he really that good of a coach to be able to take over the Cardinals?

Im not being a butthole because he is a cubbie, im asking the question to get a real answer

Man, if the Cards get Ryno, damn well Pujols better be a Cub, cuz this is pissing me off.
laugh.gif

Good enough, eh, no way for us to know.  He knows the game, he has the calm temperament needed, but also can defend his club as needed, he worked in the minors for a few years.  All of it was to prepare him to take over in the bigs.

Taking over for his own franchise that is rebuilding is one thing, taking over for the WS champs?  Wow.  That would be TOUGH for him to pull off.  And from a fanbase that may not like him from jump being a Cub.
laugh.gif
For him, of course he would love to take a ready made team, but if Albert leaves, and they don't fill in that void good enough, he could have an issue.  Keep the same team, he should be able to fill in just fine, imo.  I honestly thought he was getting the job that Quade got last year, he's been on the cusp for a while now.

Damn, what is Theo up to then?  No Quade, OR Ryno?

Please don't tell me Francona is coming.
