The Twins will be 21-16 with a win today over the Rays.

They don't have a single player in any of the offensive categories (H, HR, BA, etc.) unless you consider runs (Dozier).

Aside from that, nothing. Their lineup's best batting average is Joe Mauer's .281.

Pitching has been stellar, Kyle Gibson and Mike Pelfrey especially.

man you aren't going far relying on Big Pelf

I remember Big Pelf with the mets

he had that 1 really good season and reverted back to his usual ways :smh:

Not relying on him  Just highlighting some of the factors that have contributed to the Twins 21-16 record after four seasons of 92+ losses.

His sinker is terrific right now, but that's always a temporary thing with him (because of health/the way he's swayed by confidence, and lack thereof).

Considering he was the Twins "No. 6" pitcher/odd man out when the rotation started, it's a good thing to see him pitching so well, for however long it lasts. He's only in the rotation at all because he got bumped up to No. 5 when Ervin Santana was suspended back in April for the first 80 games of this season for steroids.

Fun team to watch. They've got that Twins MO. I love Pauly as the manager. Trevor May also seems to be improving every start, albeit slowly. His last start in Cleveland he got roughed up, but it happens. Looking solid again today.

I guess his fastball is up a few MPH's from a few years ago, which helps a bit I guess, but he throws the slower stuff more than his fastball. He's been throwing a split-finger, which he hasn't used in years they say and they  mentioned on one of his last starts on the Twins broadcast how if he can learn to locate it, it could revive his career.

He's off to a good start.

his sinker/splitter was the key to that 1 really good season with the Mets. i hope he can revive himself, always a good guy. just not expecting much

Ironic that Pelfrey and Hughes both left NY and found themselves fairing better on the same Twins team.

Yeah...Low expectations and every time he gives the Twins a QS or better, then it's all just a bonus. He's like many of those other vet pitchers that start out seasons so well then tail off sometime after the All-Star break. Ala Harang, Colon, Chris Young type guys.

McCutchen's BA is .311 in the last two weeks, .353 in the last seven days (six games)

Mama there goes that man

Hughes was great last year. Off to a rough start, but he should turn it around. I'm sure he loves pitching at Target Field as opposed to that little league park in NY.

Should I start a Twins thread? Or AL Central thread?

I don't even care that I'm hopping on late. After four 92+ loss seasons and how this year started (the biggest FA signing in franchise history testing positive for steroids) the only time to arrive to the 'party' is late.

Plus, the state of Minnesota's been beaten into cynicism  I mean, ****. How many states or cities with four teams in the four major sports (NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL) have only two second-round berths combined for all four sports since 2010? Can't be many.

In the debate of the head-first slide vs. feet first, I've been seeing lots of reasons this season as to why head-first may be better. So many times, runners going in feet first have popped up and off the bag on impact and either get tagged out in that moment where they aren't touching the bag or it's really really close. Of course, you can over slide when you head first, but its less common to come off the bag completely since you still drag your entire body over the base before you slide beyond the bag. I even think you have more control going head first because you can control your arm placement a lot easier than going feet first. There's just way more maneuverability.

I've always been a head first guy myself when I played. Chalk one up for the Pete Rose's.

Brendan Rogers at 2

Carson Fulmer at 5
I heard Dansby Swanson at 2. Something about Rogers not hitting a weak HS league or something like that. And Daz at 5, Astros scouts have been all over him. But Rogers should go 1 unless DBacks go with a cheaper pick

I'm fine with either SS at 2.

The stuff about Rogers not hitting is way overblown. They discussed it on the fangraph podcast and it was laughable

I've also heard they're going to take two position players, but I don't really agree with that. I'm always fine with taking the best player on the board, but we need starters, bad.
