Seems like it'll be between NYY, Texas and Toronto for Darvish.  Think he winds up in Texas.

Cespedes has a lot of teams into him.  Haven't heard much new

"People from other teams want to play in St. Louis and they're jealous that we're in St. Louis because the fans are unbelievable. So why would you want to leave a place like St. Louis to go somewhere else and make $3 or $4 more million a year? It's not about the money. I already got my money. It's about winning and that's it. It's about accomplishing my goal and my goal is to try to win.

Albert Pujols in 2009.

Oh Albert.  New rule: No longer can a pro athlete in any sport ever utter something is not about the money. In any situation. Thank you.

Yea but that was before they broke the bank for Matt Holliday and didn't attempt to resign him. Plus, gave him a full NTC. I'm usually not on the side of the athlete in this case but I'm not going to dump on Pujols too hard. Besides, he just won another WS ring with em.

Darvish is the goods, been following him for years.

Might be weary of Boston on Darvish too with their pitching issues and Bobby V's connections to baseball overseas

People saying they're a little scared because of their history with Dice-K but Dice was never as good in Japan as Darvish was.

They didn't break the bank for Holliday though. They signed him because Albert was crying about management showing him that they would always field a winner and be a ball club that would put itself in a position to win year in and year out. When Matt was signed they truly believed it was an insurance policy so Albert wouldn't go anywhere. I've heard a couple people bring up the Holliday contract and it's absurd. Albert is just like every other liar who has come before him, it clearly was only about the money and his St. Louis talk was nothing more than a bunch of lip service for the fans.

IDK about that. Have to agree to disagree here. IMO you don't give Holliday 7 years at $18mm a pop and then drag your feet with a Pujols extension. That's essentially what's been happening before last offseason. I don't think it was lip service to the fans. They offered the guy a 5 year deal in November. That's the straw that probably broke his back. I wouldn't call him a liar at all. You offer the guy a 9 year deal over the winter and then after he helps bring you a WS in a year he was injured and came back the same player then offer him a 5 year deal? Especially knowing the market out there? I think they're more to blame here than Albert pulling an A-Rod.

As @JoeStrauss has reported, the #Cardinals reopened Pujols talks with a 5-year offer in November. Albert was not pleased

Management did exactly what they felt was best for the teams future and at the time they signed Holliday it was because they felt it's what Albert would need to stay in St. Louis for the remainder of his career. Albert wasn't asking for a 10 year contract 2 seasons ago. It's funny how people who don't follow this team on a day to day basis all of a sudden are experts on why talks broke down. I know you keep yourself informed Proshares about what's going on around the league, but there is a lot of info you are unaware of that was happening in St. Louis. Albert's ego has reached Bonds status in the last few season, but the media in St. Louis was very careful to protect him. The Cards could have got this done years ago, but chose not to for reasons unknown to any of us.

What I meant about Albert being a liar was in reference to what RyGuy posted. Albert had been feeding that type of %#%# to the fans in St. Louis for years and as time passed a lot of fans started seeing the writing on the wall. Albert loves to play that stand up Christian type, but in reality he is just as greedy as the next man. Anyone in their right mind knows the contract he was demanding would cripple the Cardinals and isn't this the same man who says, "it's not about the money but winning". Funny I was watching the Torri Hunter interview on Hot Stove yesterday and he was saying that when Albert called him the first thing he was saying was it's not about the money, but about winning. Guess he forgot that he just won the World Series with his former team.

I've said it before and have held my ground before the 2011 season. I am glad he's gone because I knew he's nowhere near worth the money the Angels gave him to the Cardinals. That's their issue now and whatever he does from here on out doesn't really concern me. I am more focused on what my team needs to do to get back to the Fall Classic.

^Your perspective is quite obviously biased. Pujols wasn't asking for a ten year contract two years ago? BS. The moment A-Rod got his deal, Albert's agent was undoubtedly looking to match it, because that's how free agency works. You look to get paid relative to what other players are being paid who are of the same caliber as you, and if Albert's agent wasn't looking for such a deal he wouldn't be doing his job. It's strange to me how fans continually expect blind loyalty from their players, as if it's a privileged for them to be playing for their favorite team, and that they should be looking out for the team's best interests instead of their own.

So to sum up, Cardinals fans are now bitter towards Albert for leaving to LAA for a better deal, despite his leading STL to TWO titles, giving them his best years at tremendous value, and having been lowballed by the FO during negotiations. Regardless of what you think is fair value for the guy, one must admit that opening up the negotiations with a five year deal is a clear slap in the face, especially in the current market. If you look at it objectively, you'd see if it was all about the money, he'd have joined the Marlins. Whose to say it wasn't about winning? The Angels are much more likely to win the World Series over the next few years than the Cards. But now you're going to paint in him the same selfish light as Bonds, despite the fact that he and his foundation have done more for St. Louis than any other athlete in the city's history? Deplorable. Albert Pujols is by all accounts a class act and consummate professional doing what I, and most other professionals would do: accept the best working offer with all things considered. So what are your sources regarding this supposed arrogance?

Pujols spends the last 4 or 5 years of that contract DHing, no?

If I'm a Cardinal fan I'm breathing a small sigh of relief as weird as that might sound.

You just 2 World Series titles in 5 years what more do you want?

Also, Octavio Dotel keeps getting work
