Angels gambled with that wells deal but that's the risk you take with players with inflated salaries. They saved what they could. I think they're still eating some of Kasmirs money. But the team is moving ahead and they are making money ( which is going back into the club) and that's what you need to do to stay competitive not just on the field but also with their marketability. The whole LA thing is still a joke but it got them more fans, which a team with stars will get no matter how they perform.

This is a perfect example of why not having a salary cap in MLB is a joke. The teams who make the stupid decisions go unpunished because they garner more revenue, while small market teams have to do everything right on their end and still can't make things work.

There's no perfect remedy to level the playing field. Installing a salary cap only helps big markets, financially speaking. Look at the dodgers, brand new tv deal puts loads of cash in the owners pockets. If a cap, lets set it around $70 million, is in place then they would only spend $70 million and pocket the other hundreds of millions. Salary cap and revenue sharing only slightly help, but they're not definitive resolutions.

But what difference would it make on the playing field if the Dodgers are pocketing the rest? I'm speaking strictly about the product on the field, not concerned about the rest in this case.

The ability to eat the contract and eat another one in the future with reserved revenue. If Kansas City's revenue was $100 million, cap is at $70 million, and a big signing flames out but makes $20 of the $70 mil per year. The FO would be leery to sign another huge name because there's always that thought in the back of their mind that its wasted money if he doesn't pan out.

Basically just dead money that takes up too much cash.

:pimp: whatever it takes to get rid of that bum

 at the salty A's fan. You guys would have money too if your fanbase wasn't such a joke and attended games when the whole season and not only when there's a chance the team can win the division.

While the dodgers miss the playoffs

dodgers will make the playoffs...to talented to miss them, just like the lakers this year, oh wait...

im a lakers through and through and believe me i never imagined the year would go like this, but coaching changes, injuries and off-court "drama" all contributed to the lack-luster performance.

Show some respect to the AL West Champ. Your dog **** team is gonna eat it again this year.

I don't see the love affair with Arizona, and I'm a big fan of Gibby. Padres?

Looks like Washington are the sexy pick, they are well built, good to see the Expos do well... they shouldn't allow Omar Minaya anywhere near that ballpark/team.

It's a long season, damn glad it's finally here, I don't get too excited for ST...

PLAY BALL! (*In about 7 days).

I'm so happy for Washington, seriously they deserve to succeed. They did it right. They suffered, they drafted right, and now are spending $. From the ground up I hope they win it all.

i'm surprised by the amount of, so called, experts who picked texas to win the AL west. i'm thinking they don't pay much attention to our relievers and our inability to get guys home in scoring position. hopefully that changes this year, and the "experts" know it and i don't.

Yeah, they drafted right, but having back-to-back number one pick helps. It also helps that they were one in a lifetime players.

Texas picked to win the division more than the Angels? That's surprising. I guess fewer people believe in the Halos pitching than I gave credit.
