Pence is very good player, and the Giants always seem to take care of their own. Yes it is a lot of money, but 5 year deals typically won't hamper a franchise. His numbers across the board this year are outstanding. He's pretty close to being a 5-tool player. I don't think he's reached his power potential yet either.

Brian Sabean also said he would do Zito's contract over again if it meant him signing with SF to begin with.

Ladies and gentleman, the San Francisco Giants.

I don't have a problem with that, if the market demands you have to pay a player that much to get them and you want that player, you do it. Obviously in retrospect it was a bad deal due to Zito's performance, but you don't have the hindsight at the beginning.

I'm not sure 5/90, would be the market for Pence, but they got their guy so more power to them.
My issue is that Sabean is being asked to review the contract with hindsight and he says that he would still offer the same deal. Now, I appreciate that a GM must show support for players under contract and can't be asked to essentially throw the player under the bus as it would potentially undermine future negotiations with other players, but this was a TERRIBLE deal. Was Zito crucial to the Giants 2012 run? Yes, absolutely. He also contributed to the team's futility before their World Series runs and was never the front of the rotation pitcher that was signed to be.

Zito signing was horrible. Giants do not win the World Series last year without him.

That's nice. So that experience should help you guys win it again this year without home field advantage, right?

Hunter Pence $90 million :x:|

ahh why not...:x

I'm sorry it's hard for me to sit here and critize him for signing someone who's having a good year and helped them win the world series the year before.
Because it's not your $120-something million dollars that largely went to ****. He made a bad signing that he's standing by today. That should make anyone concerned.

Man, if a single play ever described a teams season in a nutshell, that was it for the Astros. Damn, that's embarrassing laugh.gif .

Good luck to Cru and Alejandro on the last day of the championship of the NT Keeper League.  Crazy that its so close that one day really will decide the season.

If Mo plays CF and gets an AB, I'd stick one right in his earhole.

I love Mo, he's the greatest reliever of all time, but he is not a position player. The idea of him playing in the field makes no sense and it's disrespectful to the game and players who have worked their *** off to get there.

He came out today and said how he didn't want to pitch at all in this Astros series because Thursday night was the absolute perfect sendoff he could imagine. He also said how he's been pitching hurt for the past month or so.

While it would be cool to see him in Center, I don't think it's likely anymore.

I honestly don't care who it is, I'd feel the same way. I just don't see the point. If you want to give him another ovation in his final game, call him in from the pen, play enter sandman, let him jog in and tip his hat to the Houston crowd.
Yeah... Nobody wants to see him in center as the last act of his career. Makes no sense.

Seriously! For some reason Hard Rock Cafe retired Enter Sandman from all of their restaurants. You would think he wrote it for christ's sake. :lol
