In a feature story on Bryce Harperrunning in this week's Sports Illustrated, two Nationals officialscompared the scrutiny the 18-year-old mega-prospect has faced to whatJackie Robinson endured when he broke baseball's color line.

In trying to describe the pressure facing Harper, Nationals Directorof Player Development Doug Harris gave this quote to SI writer TomVerducci:

"This is really unfair and it's totally different, but if I can makea comparison to one guy that has been scrutinized like this, it wouldbe Jackie Robinson. And it's unfair because it was a differentstandard. He was under a microscope in an era when we didn't haveInternet, didn't have cellphones. Now, Jackie Robinson had his lifethreatened. I'm not comparing Bryce to that. But as far as nonstopscrutiny? Absolutely. Day to day."

Minor league coach Tony Tarasco, who is as close to Harper as anyNationals employee, made a similar comparison to SI independent ofHarris's remarks:

"Jackie Robinson. You have to go back to Jackie Robinson to findanybody who goes through this much scrutiny. It wasn't like this for[Stephen] Strasburg. Wasn't like this for Alex Rodriguez."

...

Why even do that to yourself?

Feels like every year I ask for the same thing, somebody come and get Zambrano, Dempster, Ramirez, or Soriano from me.  Give me 2 prospects per, thas it.  Not top enders or anything crazy, just 2 decent prospects and call it good.

August 2nd, all those fools will still be Cubs.

Zambrano, Dempster and Ramirez aren't accepting trades, they've already put that out there. NO ONE is taking Soriano

his 50 legs aren't getting you anything back. Your best bets to trade are Fukodome, Reed Johnson or Marshall. Don't think you'll get decent for them either.

Alonso gonna be in left I imagine. Bad news

they really need to trade him and one of the catchers for a front end pitcher.

They're not going to get anything near what they want because you can't offer him arbitration after the season and get comp picks back...

Nobody is going to give up anything of significance for 8-10 weeks and see ya. People want those picks back.

Cause I know I want to be able to watch BJ Upton in center in my own city for at least the next 5 years.
I want Justin Upton too, but that prob wont happen.
Or you guys can take BJ and WE the White Sox get Justin in Right putting Carlos back in left

10:21am: The White Sox are in serious talks for a deal that would send starter Edwin Jackson and third baseman Mark Teahen to the Blue Jays for reliever Jason Frasor and a prospect, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.  Rosenthal's colleague Jon Paul Morosi says this deal is close and money could be involved.  The rumor was first reported ten hours ago on Twitter by a fellow named Doug Seyller.

11:09am: Joel Sherman of the New York Posttweets that this deal is close but not complete, because the moneyexchange requires approval and the Jays are trying to spin Jackson toanother team.  That team may be the Cardinals, based on tweets from Joe Strauss, Jon Heyman, and Sherman.  Sherman believes the Cardinals could also get a reliever and Colby Rasmus may be involved, but nothing is official.  The Blue Jays have interest in Rasmus, tweets Morosi.

Seems like so little for Rasmus, TLR and the Cards are going to regret that. Going to hate to potentially face Colby :/

TLR has single handedly tanked this kids' value, it's amazing to me. Last year, you're getting back a blue chip pitcher and another good prospect. Now? Edwin freaking Jackson and a reliever? I hope he goes to Toronto and hits 50.
