Well ESPN uses BR and BR is bad when it comes to WAR  so it would have to be FG.

The no hitter is a great accomplishment sure. The WHIP, sure, he led by .09. The importance to Detroit, sure but they also had the 4th best offense pitching against a division with the 10th, 16th, 18th and 25th offense with four pitcher friendly parks. Compare him to CC with the 2nd best offense and pitching against a division with the 1st, 6th, 14th and 15th offense with four hitter friendly parks. CC was just as important to the Yankees, especially when you compare the staffs. Then you dig into it and see that HR/9 is .64 to .86 for CC, CC somehow managed with a .318 BAPIP while JV had an extremely below average .236 BAPIP, better GB%, better FIP and xFIP. Cy Young, sure, JV deserved to win that. MVP? No chance.

I only bring up '12 because it was similar or even better that his '11 season but one mentions anything because there was a Triple Crown winner.

Pitching MVP's should only be reserved for historically dominant seasons, it bugs me that Verlander has a MVP and Pedro doesn't.

I definitely see that point, but MVP awards are only relevant to that one season. You'll have to refresh my memory on the MVP's in those years where Pedro was truly historically dominant for a 3-5 year stretch, but if A-Rod is also out there in those same years having himself years of God-like production then the MVP will surely go to the offensive player. It's definitely no indictment against Pedro, just that there was more competition for the award those years.

The Pirates make the highest percentage (13.9%) of “remote” (1-10% chance) defensive plays in MLB.

The Phillies, Nationals and Rangers are the only three outfields in MLB making the “routine” plays at a less than 99% rate.

Teddy is a punk!
He's just getting some revenge for being body slammed at PNC Park! I like when the other racing mascots go on the road. The normal races are kinda boring now, but the joint ones are usually funny.

97 when Walker won it...99 when Pudge somehow won it, you can't convince me anyone else deserved it that year...2000 when Giambi won when Pedro clearly deserved it. I mean sure, the hitter will more than likely win but that doesn't make it right. I don't think more competition makes it any less of a disservice either.

You want to talk about God like numbers...97 - 241.1 IP with 305 K's, a sub 1 WHIP, a 2.39 FIP...and that's probably his worst case...99 - 213.1 IP 313 K's & 37 walks, a sub 1 WHIP, a 1.39 WHIP, .38 HR/9 pitching in the AL East, somehow managed to do all of this with a .323 BAPIP...one of the greatest pitching performances you'll ever see...00 - 217 IP w/284 K's & 32 walks, an astounding .74 WHIP, 2.17 FIP and somehow Giambi wins it.

Those are close to 3 God like seasons as well.

I'm just sayin'...Pedro not winning one has nothing to do with Verlander winning one. Completely separate seasons with different circumstances.

I don't think he was saying that one had to do with the other...just saying that it needs to be that kind of historic season for a pitcher to win MVP. Verlander did not have that kind of historical season. The entire narrartive was him winning 24 games and being the first in a while over 250 IP.

And it is a shame that Pedro and Randy don't have one but a guy like ******* Juan Gonzalez has two

Wow. Nats. That World Series attitude, champagne bottle life.

Probably getting ahead of myself, but this weekend got me hyped.

Nats could go on a 10 game win streak and then lose the next 10. They're not a serious threat in the NL.

I would put more stock in the Pirates collapsing than the Nats rising up

(Sigh)

Edit - not trying to take the wind out of your sails. Enjoy it man

Psst...what's the Nats' record vs. teams over .500?
No clue. What is it?

Huh? Nats longest losing streak this year is 4 games. You're thinking of the Braves. And we'll see about that last part.

You can't collapse without the other team taking advantage of their opportunities! Nats did what they had to!

If the Nats are not a contender, who is? The Braves with Fredi? The Brewers with that below average rotation? The Dodgers who struggle to win at home? I'll take my chances with the team with the better rotation, similar offense and with the a run differential almost doubling everyone in the NL.
