Quick question for you guys. Had the 12th overall pick (last in the first-round) and wanted to select an OF between Justin Upton and CarGo. Thought about it for a while and went with my boy Upton. Any thoughts on the selection or even alternatives? Went Prince with the next pick (13th)  by the way.

I absolutely hate the idea of the one game play in for the wildcard. Hate it. For so many reasons.

Why should a team be rewarded for finishing in second place of the wildcard race?

Isnt 162 games enough to determine what teams deserve to be in the playoffs?

Why a one game playoff?

Hypothetically, lets say the WC team is the second best team in the NL/AL with 100+ wins. The second place team in the WC has 88 wins. Is it really fair that the 100+ win team has to play a one game playoff against a team that is incredibly inferior in terms of season record?

After this one game playoff, the winning WC team now has to play the #1 seed having just burned their #1 starter. Is that fair?

Sorry for the rambling. I could go on forever why this is ******ed.

That Brandon McCarthy article really was a good read. Baseball might be the only sport where a guy could truly reinvent himself and be successful.

I don't like this extra WC thing either. Why try to fix something that isn't broken? I guess it may lure in a few more casual fans for one game but I don't care for that. Not a fan.

Upton has the better upside, but his average is where you take a hit.

Cargo is coming off a injury season, if he can bounce back is a 5 category stuffer.

I like Upton a little more than Cargo just for the injury concerns
Brien Taylor, Former Yankees Superstar-To-Be, Arrested On Cocaine Trafficking Charges
Brien Taylor, the can't-miss prospect who missed, was arrested yesterday on a whole mess of drug charges. This comes after an undercover operation by the Carteret County (NC) Sheriff's Office, in which cops allegedly purchased large quantities of crack and cocaine from him.
Taylor is charged with two counts each of trafficking in cocaine by possession, trafficking in cocaine by sell, trafficking in cocaine by deliver, trafficking in cocaine by manufacture, trafficking in cocaine by transport, and felony maintaining a vehicle.

He is also charged with one count each of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver cocaine and sell and deliver cocaine.

Taylor was placed in the Carteret County Jail under a $275,000 bond.

Taylor was a high school superstar who held out for, and received, a then-record $1.55 million signing bonus from the Yankees. He tore up the minor leagues, but when he got into a fight in a North Carolina trailer park, he tore up his shoulder. He was never the same pitcher, never made the majors, and as recently as 2006 was living at home with his parents, on a street named after him.

Couple of things...

1. The MLB said this would have been done in 2013 regardless... so it's not like we didn't know this was coming, they just decided to do it year earlier.
2. The addition of a double wild card can only help teams in the AL Central and AL West... and possibly devastate but also maybe help teams in the AL East. Let me explain...

The Twins, Athletics, Angels, Rangers, White Sox, Tigers, etc. etc. NONE of them ever had a chance to get the Wild Card spot. On rare occasions maybe, but we all know how rare it was when that happened. So adding another spot gives those teams a chance to knock off a team like the Rays or the Red Sox that ACTUALLY deserve it in a one-game playoff

dland put it nicely

So true, but it's why I love it as a Twins fan.

Not saying we're really contending for a playoff spot this year barring something spectacular happens, but for the future.

I wouldn't like it if say the Braves win the wild card 92 games and the Giants were to win the second place wildcard with around 87 games and then beat the Braves in that one game playoff.

Last year wouldn't have been a great finish to the year if they added the wc in 2011.
