Know there are a bunch of Manny guys here on this board, great article in the Times today about him in high school

http://www.nytimes.com/20...ts/baseball/26manny.html

Anyone who grew up playing baseball in NYC knows Manny is a mythical legend for kids who play ball.  An ump swore to me once that Manny hit the Pathmark from near the Murray Bergtraum feels which must be like 600 feetsmiley: laugh

Alcides Escobar is outrageous.

Just made another even tougher throw like this against the Indians: http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=13947635

Not many guys can get that much on a throw from that far, going away.

He's an overrated hitter, maybe the most overrated ever. He slaps singles to get his 200, doesn't drive in runs, won't bat third so he can get the extra at bats to slap 75 foot infield singles while his team struggles year after year to score runs. If he hit .285 but added some RBI's and a few extra base hits they'd be better for it.

A simple "I didn't like him side" would have sufficed laugh.gif

I bring that up because Starlin kinda reminds me of him.

No effing way. Starlin swings hard, works counts, bats 1-2-3 in the order on a given day, and actually tries to drive in runs. He does not slap at balls just to get on base to not be driven in. Don't make that comparison again. laugh.gif

I don't know how you can call someone overrated that has never hit below .300 and has career average of .331. He's got over 2000 hits and nearly 400 stolen bases. There isn't one team in baseball that this man wouldn't be starting for. And he doesn't drive in runs? Well look at the piece of %%%% team he plays for. smiley: laugh I would love to have him hitting leadoff for my team.

Not in the way you described Ichiro.  They both put a lot of balls in play and have pretty high batting average of balls in play and hit a lot of grounders.  Lots of speed from both but I don't think he'll get the infield hits Ichiro does batting from the right side.  Both hit a good amount of liners but Starlin will turn a lot of those doubles into HR's as he gets older.  Maturing and striking out less.  One thing Ichiro does do a lot better than him is swing at less balls out of the strike zone but that comes with maturation too.

Just saying smiley: laugh.

Put him on the top of a real Major League caliber lineup and you would see how valuable a player like him is.

Yeah, exactly, he needs others to make him better. Albert Pujols makes others around him better. Ichiro on a damn crappy team and instead of sacrificing slap singles to drive some guys in, or go deep, or even take walks, he refuses and stays in his little leadoff spot getting 750 plate appearances. And ya'll call him great and make excuses for him. 30t6p3b.gif
