We all know how baseball is but I have to ask this question......Is Mariano Rivera the first unanimous hall of famer?? it's probably going to be somebody to not vote on purpose because a voter will say I knew everyone else will vote for him. and they wanted to keep a tradition of not letting anyone in 100% shout out to the unwritten rules of baseball thread. but after cal ripken jr, nolan ryan and rickey henderson didn't get in 100% i don't think anyone ever will....

Good topic there, and there is one other player coming up (Greg Maddux) where I am going to be entertained to see how they defend not giving him 100% of the vote.

I think Greg Maddux certainly has a shot at being high 90s % hes been an outstanding pitcher with cy youngs, wins etc plus the fact he wasnt a power pitcher.

I miss the mad dog such amazing pitch movements. everyone loves Maddux

Glad I was able to see this man pitch in the house that Steinbrenner built. Got the save against my Dodgers, wasn't even mad. As a baseball fan hearing "Enter the Sandman" at Yankee Stadium... chills.

Anyone who does not vote Rivera or Maddux should have to be put on live tv to answer to it. Then post their Twitter handle and email address so the world can **** them over and then some.

I know neither will get 100% and that's just flat out absurd. I'm tired of that stupid *** "rule" and you know the voters talk about it and a different one is selected each time to not vote the player in, that way they don't all vote no and look really ******g dumb.

Truly unprofessional way to act! Giants invited him to Ring ceremony in April and has been trying to give him his ring. I don't see how it's funny to act that way

Reds limping into the post season. Offense has to heat up. 1 game playoff is the best thing for them to advance

Pence is very good player, and the Giants always seem to take care of their own. Yes it is a lot of money, but 5 year deals typically won't hamper a franchise. His numbers across the board this year are outstanding. He's pretty close to being a 5-tool player. I don't think he's reached his power potential yet either.

Brian Sabean also said he would do Zito's contract over again if it meant him signing with SF to begin with.

Ladies and gentleman, the San Francisco Giants.

I don't have a problem with that, if the market demands you have to pay a player that much to get them and you want that player, you do it. Obviously in retrospect it was a bad deal due to Zito's performance, but you don't have the hindsight at the beginning.

I'm not sure 5/90, would be the market for Pence, but they got their guy so more power to them.

My issue is that Sabean is being asked to review the contract with hindsight and he says that he would still offer the same deal. Now, I appreciate that a GM must show support for players under contract and can't be asked to essentially throw the player under the bus as it would potentially undermine future negotiations with other players, but this was a TERRIBLE deal. Was Zito crucial to the Giants 2012 run? Yes, absolutely. He also contributed to the team's futility before their World Series runs and was never the front of the rotation pitcher that was signed to be.
