Ellsbury a Yankee? WTF. That came out of nowhere.

So he hit 32 bombs in 2011....and his second most is 9? I dunno, man. Better get this man on a cycle.

#RedSox would get a supplemental 1st round pick for Ellsbury. Yankees lose their pick.

Wrong.. It's a 2nd Round Pick because their 1st went to Atlanta.

Buster Olney
"But that dynamic changes dramatically once a team decides to surrender its first-round pick, as the Yankees will in signing Brian McCann. Now the Yankees are set up for the double-dip, or more, among the elite free agents tied to compensation, such as Carlos Beltran, Stephen Drew, Santana and others.

“It’s like buying the buffet instead of ordering off the menu,” one executive said earlier this month. “You might as well go back for seconds and thirds.”

While the Red Sox, Rangers and other teams competing against the Yankees for the elite free agents will continue to weigh their desire to keep their top pick, this is no longer an obstacle for the Yankees. If they sign Shin-Soo Choo, or Drew, or Kendrys Morales, they will lose picks after the first round, which have far less value. (And the Yankees have set themselves up to get draft-pick compensation if Robinson Cano, Curtis Granderson or Hiroki Kuroda sign elsewhere.) "

Haven't really been following baseball these past years but how is Jacoby Ellsbury a 150 million dollar man over 7 years? What the? What does he do on the field that makes him deserving? If you divide that that's 21 mill a year. That's Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Kobe, Tim Duncan, Adrian Peterson, Calvin Johnson, etc type money! Jacoby Ellsbury on the list now?

Just took criminal law final yesterday. Let's see if we get Jacoby for larceny...

Larceny is the trespassory taking and carrying away of the personal property of another with the intent to steal.

taking: taking money straight to the bank

carrying: carrying it to the bank, in a beautiful new car he probably bought with the money from the contact

personal property of another: it is the Yankees money

intent to steal: def intending to steal because he signed the contract and is not worth it.

All the elements are satisfied and Jacoby is guilty of common law larceny.

Essential is right, Yanks already gave up the first rounder to Atlanta. So anything they lose now means nothing to em.

Still think they resign Cano *shrugs*

None of those guys play baseball...

if you can get Cano…i think it's pretty awesome (for you guys) that you were able to get Ellsbury. the money and contract terms are ridiculous, but if you can put ells and cano on the field, good for you guys.

Bill Simmons ‏@BillSimmons 2m
Your official "Any time you can spend 150 million on Jacoby Ellsbury when you already have Brett Gardiner, you have to do it" tweet.

not a simmons fan but

So granderson def won't sign now. I always liked him, he was unlucky last year with injuries but I always enjoyed his play. He couldn't hit lefties worth a damn tho.

I still can't believe 7 years tho, that's crazy man. Could have resigned granderson for cheaper and less years.

I think eventually the "winning is more important than money" will kick in for him.

Call me crazy, but I think they'll still pull off Cano and Tanaka. Missing the playoffs does something to these guys

BTW, think about this with the money that'll still be getting pumped in to teams in four years:

dschoenfield David Schoenfield
My lord, what will Mike Trout get in four years? Maybe Angels should just give him a 20-year contract now.

jacoby for 7 years though :smh: boston fans is he the goods? i know he steals bases but so does gardner at a cheaper price.... not saying hes better but still cheaper alternative...

IMO he's a great player…but he's not a $20M per year player. he will help you guys, no doubt. but i don't think he's THAT good a player.

He is the goods, I'm sad to see him go. That contract is crazy but he's a hell of a player.

I'm not a fan of the signing, I think it was way too much money for a guy who doesnt hit HR's. I mean he's fast and gets you the SB's but thats what Gardner is for.

At least with Grandy, we knew what we had and as I said in the NYY thread, when healthy, is good for 30+ HR's.

Ellsbury needs to get on some PED's and this year needs to match that 2011 HR total. lol

Irony is Yankees probably could have signed Beltran & kept Granderson for 7 years combined at $100mil combined...

He gets on base a lot better than Gardner and doesn't K as much. Plus, guys like Ellsbury age a lot better than the usual suspects getting these deals.

Also, it makes Gardner that much more valuable. Move him back to LF where he was one of the top LF's for those two years before the injuries took their toll.
