Clean or not, these guys are apart of baseball history. Bonds, Clemens, Piazza, McGwire, Bagwell, and others all deserve to go in.
These writers are lames. But, honestly, is there a better way to vote for the HOF?

barry larkin made a good comment comparing it to pete rose situation. they may not be inducted (yet) but all their accomplishments, numbers are in there. youre gonna see their jerseys, bats. gloves, etc. but they may not have a bust

Wasn't around yesterday to post, but here are my quick thoughts:

-I support the induction of Maddux/Glavine.
-Don't think Frank Thomas is HOF worthy.
-Piazza deserves to be inducted. Don't think Biggio does.
-I will be at Cooperstown in 2016 for Griffey, best believe.

Piazza deserves to be in, but not Frank Thomas? Huh?

And Biggio played Catcher, Second Base, and Centerfield. All star caliber at all of them. With one team. For two decades.

All Star caliber, doesn't have to equate to All star, when that's part vote, part every team has to have a rep. He was at least in the mention for All Star every single year, even if Alomar went more.

I wouldn't freak out if he never made it, but I would never freak out if he did make it either.

I know one damn thing, he's a better ******g hitter than Ichiro is. And I really don't think it's close either.

He was not an all-star caliber OF'er, not even close lol

I would pay to see you & Ichiro in the Octagon.

Is there a back story to your disdain for him?

"BBWAA kicks out Dan LeBatard for 1 year and will bar him from future Hall of Fame votes. LeBatard turned over his 2014 ballot to Deadspin."

He gave a good explanation but he still deserved it.

Meanwhile, this man has a vote

In November 2007, Conlin drew the ire of Internet bloggers after quipping in an email that "the only positive thing I can think of about Hitler's time on earth: I'm sure he would have eliminated all bloggers."

On December 20, 2011, Conlin resigned from his sportswriting position just hours prior to the publication of allegations of child molestation.
One of Conlin's accusers was his niece, Kelley Blanchet, who is now a prosecutor in Atlantic City, New Jersey.[13] The claims of abuse were first reported to the police in 2009, when Blanchet says she became concerned for the safety of Conlin's other young relatives.[13][14] Since the initial allegations were made, three further people have claimed they had been abused by Conlin.[15][16][17]
The baseball writers association (BBWAA) secretary/treasurer Jack O’Connell issued a "member in good standing" statement on December 20. It said in part "The allegations have no bearing on [Conlin's] winning the 2011 J.G. Taylor Spink Award, which was in recognition of his notable career as a baseball writer”.[18]
The day before the story broke, Deadspin editor A.J. Daulerio reported he had an email conversation with Conlin in which Conlin talked about suicide and criticized his accusers and Inquirer reporter Nancy Phillips.[15][19] According to Daulerio, Conlin's attorney, George Bochetto, called Daulerio in the afternoon and requested him not to post the story and said Conlin denied emailing Daulerio. The story was posted and about three hours later the Inquirer posted its story.[19]

Its clear that HOF voting needs some kind of change. But the BBWAA is gonna try to fight any change because they're judge, jury, and execution every year. They act like they're the moral police. I think Fernando Tatis had it right when he said:
these are the same type of guys that would leave stone cold steve austin out the WWF HOF first ballot because he drinks beer in the ring

Fair enough. I think the peak and longevity helps his case. I don't think it really matters that Bagwell was the better player. Of course he was. If that's held against him, then it should be held against Jeff Kent or Edgar Martinez or Tom Glavine or Randy Johnson. I don't think you're holding it against him, I know you're just explaining the POV you have. That's just in general.

Well he was he best second baseman of the 90's. Should that not count for something? Besides, you can argue he was one of the absolute best in 1997. Again, not being the best player on his own team seems kinda like a tired argument. You can make that about almost any HOF'er. He's a top 10 second baseman.

I thought we were well past using All Star games, GG's and batting average as measuring sticks? They've all been proven as worthless stats. Biggio played 3 positions fairly well. I'm not going to say that because Alomar had the much better teams top to bottom than Biggio ever had which led him to more postseason AB's is pushing Alomar over Biggio. He made it past the first round twice and those were in his last four years, Robby was approaching/in his prime when he was in the postseason.

Biggio is 18th all time in times on base. Their numbers are far too similar to just let Alomar in and not Biggio. Can you say there was a year when he was the best player in the league?

Alomar has zero season of 200 hits, should that be held against him.

The WAR chart is so close, I've just been convinced it doesn't make sense to have the HOF with one and leave one out.

Le Batard's punishment wasn't harsh enough imo. The entire BBWAA needs to be destroyed and rebuilt. Writers who've never played ball with their heads so far up their ***** that think they're more important than the game itself.

what was his punishment?

what he did was wrong but at the same time these voters are a joke so a fan vote ended up looking more legit than the majority

Pro: 18th in times on base? That's like a cute way of skirting around his OBP not being anything special. .363 for a HOF'er? Nah. Not without any power numbers or anything else for that matter to offset it. That number is a direct reflection of the fact that he was able to play in the league for as long as he did.

We can ignore the BA of players, but still...Only one time over 200 hits? What is he doing that's special if his averages were all...well, average? His overall numbers and rankings are bloated to me because he played forever.

I think Alomar is an argument we can have for another day, but I'm not in to comparing players when it comes to the HOF because that jumbles the mess even more. I just don't think Biggio was anything special. Solid, but not elite.

I dont think he is a Hall of Famer because he simply was never considered one of the top players in the game. Even in his prime. I just dont see how ANYONE is worthy of being in the Hall of Fame....an honor reserved for the best players in Major League history....when at no point was he even considered one of the best players of his era. At no point, no season, would anyone have considered Biggio one of the best.
Except in '97 he led the majors in fWAR and was 2nd in rWAR among position players. He also played in the All-Star game and won a Gold Glove that year.

Since he stuck around too long, I don't care what his career OBP is, he had 4 seasons over .400 and 4 more over .380.
Not without any power numbers
He led the league in doubles 3 times. 7 seasons with 40+ doubles.

So, what you're saying is that a few seaons with top production in only one or two categories is enough to consider him one of the absolute greatest baseball players of all-time?

He played in the all-star game and won a gold glove? So? 4 years out of 20 with an OBP over .380. Does that scream HOF? Led the league in doubles 3 times...out of the 20 years he played. Are we shouting HOF now?

I mean, c'mon. Maybe it's that we all have different ideas of what the HOF should be, but in my opinion it's the best of the best. Those that can clearly be defined as one of the greatest baseball players to have lived. Biggio doesn't fit that.

Biggio's monster double numbers in the Astrodome are laughable lol

The turf would rocket balls in the gaps to the wall haha

That was sarcasm, I was joking with dland because he loves to use All-Star Games and Gold Gloves.
4 years out of 20 with an OBP over .380.
No, 8 years. 4 years over .400.
Led the league in doubles 3 times...out of the 20 years he played.
That was a response to you saying he had no power numbers.

There are over 200 players in the HOF, like it or not Biggio compares favorably to many of them.

Well, whatever man. He ranks in the 400's somewhere for career OPS. Eye popping.

And one of my biggest complaints with the HOF is what you mentioned in your last sentence. Requirements should change or else the hall will get more and more diluted.

If you put in Biggio just because others already in compare, then that completely takes away from the integrity of what the hall of fame is supposed to be.

No matter what...He'll never be one of the greatest. Forever good...Never elite.
