I have never heard of this story, but glad you put it in here.  Rucker park, with all the New Yorkers on this board, surprised this isn't brought up more.  At the end, there's that book he was reading, I wanna look that up and see how much of it was legit.

I'm lookin at Wiki, but I don't see the name of the book in here, I might have to check the movie again tonight to find it.

Great find Ska.

Damn, Maybe I over looked it...but no mentions of "Air up there" with Kevin Bacon?....Good movie IMO

Quit bringing up all them damn wrestling movies.
30t6p3b.gif
(The Wrestler is allowed however, great film)

Airplane should get a mention for Kareem, as well as that movie he did with Bruce Lee.

Oscars are on Sunday, I'm thinkin Bale gets one for The Fighter EASY.  He was flawless in that flick.

I can't believe it took so long for Raging Bull (Prime) and The Basketball Diaries (DoubleJs) to get mentioned.

I'm also with Fresh on Lights Out (TV show on FX). I've really enjoyed the few episodes that I've seen so far.

Oscars this Sunday, here are my picks to see how I do.

Best Picture-- Kings Speech
Best Director--Daren Aronofsky
Best Actor--Colin Firth  (I wanted to go with Franco, but he's hosting the damn event, can he win doin that?)
Best Actress--Natalie Portman  (God I wish she wasn't knocked up right now so we could see her all done up)
devil.gif

Best Supporting Actor--Christian Bale
Best Supporting Actress--My pick is Hailee Steinfield, but she's a kid, probably gonna be Amy Adams
Best Writer/Screenplay--Aaron Sorkin

So The Fighter could get a couple oscar wins, along with several noms.

And I think Nolan/Leo were robbed of at LEAST nominations.

But i expect Leo to get some love in the next 3 years easy.

What are you guys really looking forward to this year? For me:

Contagion

The Town might be mine, too, but I really can't decide.

Speaking of, I finally saw Gone Baby Gone a few days ago. Ben Affleck is undoubtedly 2-2 as a director. I hope he continues.

I'm not really a fan of superhero-type movies, so 2011 sets up to disappoint me. It seems like there are a ton upcoming.

I hope one of these alien joints appeals to me, but I'm not sure that any of them will. I have a very particular kind of alien film in my head that I want to see made.

Do 24-hour movie theaters exist? Because they should.

if you refer to an Alien movie that let's say, takes most of Independence Day, sprinkle in some District 9, get some of War of the Worlds remake in there, maybe a little of Battle LA, maybe 10 minutes or soof Skyline, tear it all apart, put it all back together with better dialogue, better development and plot/storylines, and then release it all, then you have the exact movie I have in my head for years now.

Prime will also speak in on that type of stuff, he's wanted ID4 "completed" for years.

As ofr Affleck, could not agree more with you, he has been perfect in his directing, and for number 3.......

.   Variety reports that Affleck is officially in negotiations to direct Argo, which has been set up by producers George Clooney, Grant Heslov (The Men Who Stare At Goats) and David Klawans (Nacho Libre). The script was written by Chris Terrio (Heights), and Variety has the plot details:
“The plot centers on how the CIA, with help from Hollywood and the Canadian embassy, used a fake movie project to smuggle six Americans out of Tehran during the 1979 hostage crisis.

The ruse, concocted by CIA operative Tony Mendez, involved launching Studio Six Prods. to rescue the six diplomats who were hiding in the Canadian embassy. The Americans used disguises to pretend they were Canadians on a scouting trip for a big-budget Hollywood epic, titled ‘Argo.’
