Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Remember, he thinks of him as dead. Hence going with a new name. The old one is gone.

And when he faces him, it aint like he says hi or nothin, its just go time.

iYen, don't read none of this stuff.

I do not want that for you.

I hear that the way you should treat the prequels is watching A New Hope and Empire, then the prequels, then Return, cuz supposedly it's the only way not to **** the og 3 up, but still have a good ending.

I wouldn't approve of that. I like the way III ended. Didn't like the noooooo but the tone was perfect. And the final image, Vader and Emporer was legendary.

A single sexual encounter between two heterosexual people would make it highly unlikely she transmitted HIV to him. Assuming she had it at the time.

The preview on NT mobile for that last comment was just.... :nerd:

I'll take your word on it CP. I aint watching any of those again.

Why not?

You mean the prequels, or all 6 or just any of them in general? You not a fan of the series?

^^^ I think we may have had this discussion before -- Mr. O is not huge SW fan. If I'm recalling correctly, he liked the original trilogy fine, but doesn't think there's anything extra special about it.

So he knows jack **** about movies, I see.

You're off my Christmas list O.

^^^ I could be remembering wrong though. I'll let Mr. O explain his Star Wars views himself.

Anyone new around here sees my joke about O not knowing movies should know two things, I tell jokes (once one was funny) and this whole thread is pretty much the strength of O's posts within it. We are lucky to have him in here and I read every word he types in this thread because I know for a fact he knows what he is talkin about and smarter than I am in the matter.

Except for Star Wars apparently. That topic, he's as smart as a shoe.

That's basically it.....it's just there's only 2 of them that I really liked.
And I saw them kinda weird, and I just don't feel like watching any of them again.
But hey, I saw Hope and Empire a lot and don't feel like watching most things over again, so uh...

anyways

Anyone else wanna see The Grandmasters besides me? I like Wong Kar-Wai's movies. This one looks nice... I haven't seen an US release info come out for this...

I like Wong Kar-Wai's movies.
I keep meaning to get into his movies, cuz I think there was these best directors of the decade lists and he was on them.

But subtitles.

I've only seen Chungking Express.
Really liked the vibe. It was pretty damn American for a foreign flick.
You could make a nice double feature out of that and Lost in Translation.

I saw it forever ago, cuz "Quentin Tarantino presents" was on the VHS cover.

I've seen that & what's supposed to be the sequel Fallen Angels along with Ashes of Time & 2046.... I'd recommend any of these for anyone that is a movie fan that can do foreign flicks.

Speaking of foreign flicks, I'm also looking forward to the US release of this French flick called Mobius starring s Jean Dujardin, Tim Roth, Cecile de France, & Wendell Pierce (from the Wire & Treme). It's a "trilingual" film where the dialog is spoken in Russian, French & English which should make plenty of subtitles for Mr. O...

I don't know if a part of me is just lowkey racist or something, but I got a real hard time watching regular Asian movies.

When I say regular, I mean like...not high concept movies. So I don't mean the war epics or scifi or crime films or action movies or whatever. Or those Korean revenge flicks. I can get through that bloody, gory stuff. But just regular adult dramas...unless there's some kinda amazing hook to pull me in, I can't.

Like Wong Kar Wai makes stylized romantic dramas, right?
Then add subtitles...>D You might as well name them Nyquil II and Nyquil III.

But on the flip...French, Spanish...Portuguese, I can deal sometimes.
Maybe.it's close enough to English, that I can just get into the cadence of the language and even catch some words here or there?

Or maybe it's cuz I think them French, Spanish and Brazilian chicks are bangin? I dunno.
I'll just say it...if I'm not giving 100% attention, mistaking Asian actors and actresses can be a problem, sometimes. It's not just the faces, it's the voices. They end up sounding the same and mess me up.

But yeah, Wong seems like Chinese Joe Wright to me, and it's hard enough to get through Wright's movies, so it might be a while til I get around to Wong's.

Mobius looks interesting. Was that Buddy Garrity?

only asian movie I thoroughly enjoyed was the OG version of the Departed, the fact that I didn't need subtitles certainly helped me enjoy it alot more too
