Why? Because it wasn't made by someone who had passion for what he was making.
Guillermo del Toro, ladies and gentlemen.
He is one of the only filmmakers who's as passionate for his work as much as his fans are. Not only does he have wonderful artistic style, but he knows the films in which he's making, and takes his time with his research.
This is Godzilla meets Evangelion/Gundam.
The marketing for this film wasn't that great, and I have a feeling not that many people will go see this.
But honestly? This could've been this generations Star Wars. It's perfect. They created a world with giant robots and kaiju monsters. I have no idea if they created figures for this, but those should sell like HOTCAKES.
This is a summer action film that has lasting power.
They drop you into a world where there's the threat of giant monsters coming from beneath the sea (kaiju), and the worlds superpowers battle these threats by developing giant mechanized robots that two people operate by using a brain0link.
They go into so much detail and emphasis on the situation that it does feel real. ANd hte relationships formed in the film you actually care about. THere are stereotypes, but it doesn't make you feel like that the characters are stale.
I don't want to talk about it too much, because it seems like not many people have seen it, but it's a goddamn 10/10 for me.
It brought me back to being a kid in the movie theaters. I envy kids that are 8-14, because this is exactly what I wanted as a kid.
Oh and I want Idris Elba in every film from this point forward. Action, comedy, thriller, drama, horror, I don't care.
