Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Finally got up the nerve to check out Cosmopolis.
David Cronenberg always makes kinda bizarre, interesting movies, but sometimes they're just on a planet I do not want to visit.

This is one of those.

Cosmopolis feels like it'd be a better graphic novel than it was a movie, with every issue being a different meeting dude takes in his limo or cafe. Robert Pattinson isn't a...compelling enough actor or presence to put a whole movie on his back. It's so stripped down, that he's gotta be damn fascinating to make this even watchable. And Cronenberg doesn't have enough visual flair, like a Fincher or Scorcese or Boyle to make a basically one-man show with cameos work. It looks like the same, bland, scene over and over, made all the worse because all Pattinson does is brood.

And this film does seem to have...something(?) to say about the class war in America. But good luck digging that out. Brooding and acting with charisma' are two opposite things. Brooding's muscle memory. It's being the boxing practice partner. It's trying not to get hit too much, and staying so far in your lane, that no one can really say you sucked. It's safe. It's anti-corny, because maybe if you ran in there and tried to push that big charisma, the cracks in your ability would show. It might seem like good acting, but that's hiding plain sight. They always said that Robert Pattinson was the one from Twilight who actually had talent. Maybe that bar ain't so high. This made me think less of him. Dude just retreated into brooding, when the film begged him to show charisma, because that was the only pulse the movie was gonna have. And he didn't. And it was strange film...like a play, and the ending was just weird.

It sucked. And it sucked completely because of Cronenberg and Pattinson.
It's pretentious trash. It looked cheap, and Pattinson was a black hole.

I think I actually regret watching it. :smh:

And I got a newfound respect for James Franco. All I could think of was how he could've at least made this into something.

What other Cronenberg films have you seen?

Early 80s Cronenberg is his prime. Videodrome. Scanners. The Fly. Not so much since then, though I remembered liking Eastern Promises.

Cosmopolis is the most pretentious crap I think I've ever seen. I hated it. I tried to like it. Nope. Didn't happen. I was just incredibly bored watching it. The visuals weren't even great.

As for Robert Pattinson, Water for Elephants? :nerd:

So, as enjoyable as this video is, all it did was piss me off.

Everytime I see those bogus, fake *** rings expand when the Death Star and Alderaan blow up, I just get more annoyed with George.

Get that fugazi **** out our movies. :smh:

Keanu to me is in a closer lane to my boy Nic Cage word to that Toy Story pic when it comes to you having to work around the persona to get to the character they're playing and movie.
Yeah, I thought that too. Franco's just the closest newer guy to the way Keanu is, I think.
But yeah, Cage is Keanu on speed. Higher highs, lower lows, Sam Jackson's taste and work ethic. :smh:

The "You Might Have To Reconsider Your Movie If You Cast Me" All-Stars

What other Cronenberg films have you seen?

The Fly, Dead Zone, Dead Ringers, eXistenZ, Crash...I don't know why, but I love A History of Violence, really liked Eastern Promises, didn't care about A Dangerous Method, and Cosmopolis...yeah. Keep meaning to watch Scanners and Videodrome.

Hol up.

Nic Cage, is Keanu? What the......?

You all know that Cage can act his face off right? (no pun intended there)

Cage IS OSCAR worthy, or I should say, WAS in his prime.

Keanu was never that. Ever, or close even.

Cage a great actor, who got a little weird towards the end and went sideways. But he did absolute work in his prime.

Cage had higher highs.

I just mean...I guess odd leading men with strong, unchanging personas, who maybe seem miscast or trolling whenever they try to play it straight, but when you use that differentness can kill it. And you could argue, are just characters in real life, who read lines on camera sometimes. Reeves is the weakest actor, but I don't think he's bad. He just not that expressive and when he finds things that work, he runs in the other direction, cuz I guess that's the way he is. Franco's maybe the best right now, but Cage had his day, bigger and better than anything Franco's done so far.

I just think, today, you could call any of them a ****** actor and a weirdo and find plenty of people to agree with you.

I'm a Cage fan. I defend dude but when he does stuff like Wicker Man and continues to do Ghost Rider movies it gets harder to bring up Lord of War and Matchstick Men among others. To me he is a great actor in his prime or when he cares but there's no denying when he does crap he makes sure it's the worst and rarest kind just for the viewer.

I notice with few exceptions when he stopped doing action movies where he was the lead and being the lead in them is when he really caught that whole persona distracting you from the movie. That's why to me he should pick his weird movies more wisely and fans have to be wary of what they watch when he's in it or has a big role. ONeg aint lying though, he doesn't choose his movies wisely he has Sam Jackson work ethic in spurts of 3-4 years where he's in a lot of stuff, some good, some bad, the rest either terrible or great. Cage is the the extreme version or example with this topic. Keanu not on his level.

I was hoping Kick *** would of been good for Nic to get back on the "I'm a badass, good actor" wagon but seems like it did nothing. He was good in that role IMO. Before that he did nothing for me in any film for a while. Ghost Rider 2 was just pathetic and had to be a paycheck only.

Bad Lieutenant too. Like...of course Herzog, who did Grizzly Man, would perfectly tap into Cage's brand of crazy.

But yeah...didn't stick. Dude had to get his ****** movie fix.

Breaking Dawn Part 2 was damn good.
Wait, what?

It was slightly less terrible because they fought at the end. But it was still poorly acted, written and directed.

Well, yeah. But in comparison it was the best by far. The fight scene was definitely entertaining and I've seen it twice now and liked it both times. Sue me.

He was good in that role but I knew his character was gonna die and wasn't gonna be THAT important to the overall story. Maybe if it was written differently where his character trained Kick-*** instead but it didn't go that way.

To me Nic can still end his career on a high note and with dignity. He's got time. Thing is a while back I heard he was getting charged with tax evasion or filed for bankruptcy and that's why he was doing any movie offered to him. Don't know if he's still in an questionable financial position but without those problems I think he'd have time and energy to pursue better roles and movies.

For instance, I think Nic could be incredible in a QT movie as protagonist or antagonist.

I think I'm the only person who didn't like Lord of War...

I wish Jared Leto would be kept acting though.

There are fight scenes?

So there was some slap fighting and that made it better than regular trash?

I mean...it's Twilight...just...I don't even know what to say.

I heard leto was good in the lennon movie but i dont wanna to watch it. I wish he acted more, im a fan

You guys are missing one of the biggest waste of talent and potential. Charlie sheen post platoon and wall street

Btw seven psychopaths is my favorote black comedy in a while. Dope cast. Twists. Super meta

I found this. I'm in tears.

edit: Dakota Fanning and Michael Sheen are in these? Aw cmon.

6min--they're just hugging with style.
Are the wolves supposed to look like Pokemon?

Aight, I won't even lie...some of that stuff from 10min on was kinda badass, even if it was coated in ugh.

Ripping heads off.

Scandalous
I would've loved to have been there opening night to observe the crowd's reactions to
seeing the characters they've grown attached to throughout the Twilight series being spectacularly killed off until
really this is a pretty big spoiler
it's all revealed to have been some crystal ball alternate reality.
