Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Denzel is a one trick pony.

Denzel is a one trick pony.

That's a more accurate statement for Will Smith. Denzel is a 2 time academy award winning actor. He should've had a 3rd for Malcolm X but got robbed when it went to Tom Hanks for Forest Gump. Denzel has been able to transform himself into another person several times. I guess we'll agree to disagree.

That sells him far too short to say the least.

People misinterpret his natural charisma and character for "he can only play the same role". That's just mistaking seeing Denzel in all his performances.

Plus it's a tired criticism and argument. He certainly has a particular role down perfectly, but he's got broader range than that.

Nah there's nothing more to be said. Capable and talented actor who prefers to be the movie star and not take risks. He's good at what he does.

Like I said....it is what it is.

Noble's right, Hurricane Denzel would've killed it, but we got a pretty amazing movie either way.

Anyways...it's gonna be Michael B. Jordan's year.

I just got put onto Curb Your Eth. and Larry David is golden.

Cant believe I Slept so long on this show. He's like Michael Scott but 100x worse lol

LD is like nothing you've seen before (aside from Costanza which is just LD). Curb is brilliant and it gets better with each season. JB Smoov is gret as Leon. Danny Duberstein > Will Smith

Where can I watch Nathan For You?

Going to watch these 3 also over the next week or two (or 3)...

Sleepers

Find Me Guilty

Love Jones

What a great soundtrack & movie. Nia Long is still sexy as he**. What happened to Lisa Nicole Carson?!?!

Watched Olympus Has Fallen over the weekend. It was what I expected, but damn, I don't think I've ever seen a movie where more people got killed. It was straight up mayhem.

The scene where the White House is being taken is epic.

is will smith still doing old boy? or is that project even happening?

Yes, it should be in post production now. It's a Spike Lee jawn starring Josh Brolin, Samuel L. Jackson, Elizabeth Olsen among others... Not sure of the release date though.

I'm about to turn you off

Like...I get it...but that was one of my favorite movies from 2011.

You gotta invite that type of shapeless, ambient (pretentious?) filmmaking in. It's a movie that kinda begs you to bring your own baggage, interpretation, and life experiences, and feel your way through the ideas, the beliefs and the emotions, more than it asks you to follow a narrative.

There aren't really characters, but symbols in the movie.
There isn't really a story, but ideas about life and existence.

That's a lot to ask, without much of a real payoff, but I loved it.

I gave it about  20 minutes, and after maybe 10 lines of actual dialogue I gave up. And I've only given up on about ~5 movies ever. There have been tons of boring/terrible movies I've sat thru, but this one just pissed me off. With the opera music, weird effects, constant cutting between character vantage points; it just felt like it was slapping me in the face, pointing and making fun of my cinematic intelligence.

Glad I watched Chronicle instead

I never saw Chronicle, but I am number four was similar I think right? Wasn't that a book series but flopped as a movie so didnt continue?

It's on a list somewhere.

 You shoulda kept going. You were so close

I was the exact same way...I was ready to turn it off until about 25 minutes in, the whole movie opens up and lets you in.

You might still not like it, but give it a little longer and see if it pulls you in.

Those movies do not belong in the same sentence.

Chronicle is an original...well "original." It's the closest we're gonna get to an Akira movie. And all 3 of the guys did a great job, and it was just a really good movie, that nobody expected (or exactly remembered later on) cuz it came out so early last year.

IA#4 is diarrhea on film.

But uh...lemme get this straight...Amazon...has original TV?
And they're making Zombieland the series? Is this a joke?

I actually watched I Am Number 4 when I was on my flight home from Hong Kong.

I would say they are pretty different movies IMO. I Am Number 4 is more about good guy vs bad guys, Chronicle was kinda like getting powers and figuring what to do with those powers. Remotely reminded me of Anakin's struggle in Star Wars 2-3.

I hate how Hollywood kills everything. Zombies and vamps were cool but now they're just being thrown at us forty-five thousand different ways where only 3% are worth watching.

Sleepers is a great film, but tough. Really powerful throughout.

That pop tart print is good stuff.

Blame the audience for eating it up.

With Tree of Life just stick with it. If you don't like it, at least you don't like the actual movie not tthe first part.

I will take your advice and give it another shot tonight.

Or maybe I'll watch it while I'm on the bike/treadmill tonight

I think you need to be in a relaxed mood/setting where you can really focus on Tree of Life and not be concerned with anything else. I tried watching it once but I couldn't make it past the 45 minute mark. You gotta be really willing to watch that film.
