^ I have some modicum of faith because Leo is in it, but I think this movie is going to be either really good or really bad (nothing in between).

They tried a true and straightforward adaptation... And it was boring as hell.

Go for broke, make it a spectacle, make it an event, I'm on board
 
finally got around to watching Life of Pi, enjoyed it for what it was worth. Prob. would of been better in theaters.

Watching Smashed now.
 
I need to get around to the Hobbit. LOTR was my favorite stuff at the time when they dropped and then when all the hobbit info and production began I just didn't care anymore. I think it's because I like the story of LOTR better.

I'll watch with low expectations and see what comes out of it for me.

I watched it in theaters & it was great on the big screen.

I bought the blu ray & watched it with my family on Friday. My 9 year old son got chocked up a bit when the tiger didn't look back at Pi... He told me he felt so bad for Pi because all he wanted was him to look back...

Be lying if I said I wasn't ready for it to suck, but that movie was great. :lol:

You could just feel the tiger's presence through the screen. And that kid owned it all.
I mean when you see pictures of how he performed...they gave him a stick and a tarp and said action. :lol:

It's kind of a mind**** to think, M. Night Shyamalan was originally gonna direct it. :x

Man, Elizabeth Winstead killed her role in Smashed, Aaron Paul was pretty damn awesome too. I felt bad for his character at the end 'cause he didn't really get it, and they sort of left it at the fact that she realized he'd never change and they had to part ways. Making a drastic change has to be for yourself and only you.. really good movie.

I just looked this movie up after I heard Doug Benson talk about it on the Doug Loves Movies podcast. Is it a comedy or is it very depressing?

I started watching The House I Live In last night, but I had to shut it off, the truth of it all just got me down...

Noskey, have you heard of or seen Ganja & Hess? I picked it up on a whim because Duane Jones of Night of the Living Dead fame is in it. Man, it's a trip. I saw it like five months ago and still am not sure what to think of the film. It was considered a lost film for a while, so the surviving print isn't in the best shape, but it's a gritty film for it's time. If you got Netflix, it's definitely worth a rental.

Also, you seen "I Saw the Devil"? Let me know what you thought of it if you did.

Havent seen Ganja & Hess, might check it out now that you mentioned it. Is it the 1:50 long video on Youtube?

I Saw the Devil is an excellent film. Byung-hun Lee is great, but Min-sik Choi steals the show as the antagonist. Everything about how he plays the character is perfect. I highly, highly recommend it.

I'd pay to see an R-rated Deadpool movie so long as Ryan Reynolds isn't cast but it looks like it might not happen. As usual, i think those in Hollywood greatly under estimate the audience for this.

‘Deadpool’ Writers Have Spoken To Mark Millar; Know Script Is Online; Have Tricks Up Their Sleeve

Every few weeks we hear the same thing about the hypothetical Deadpool movie. We hear the script is great, but incredibly hard-R, and no one is willing to move ahead because of that. The script in question is the work of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, writers who exploded on the scene with the 2009 film Zombieland and penned this week’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation. We spoke to the duo about G.I. Joe earlier this week, so check back for that, but I also had to bring up Deadpool.

Reese and Wernick confirmed that star Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller are both still on board, the test footage is amazing, they’ve discussed the project with 20th Century Fox’s Marvel mastermind Mark Millar and casually mentioned that the script can be found online, almost inviting fans to read it and tell executives they want to see the movie.

We keep reading about is how awesome your Deadpool script is, but that it’s so awesome we might never see it. How would you guys describe the script that’s out there right now that’s so R rated that we can’t…

Rhett Reese: The way I would describe it is to say it’s the best script we’ve ever written and probably ever can write. To us it’s the pinnacle of what we are capable of and we are super proud of it. It will definitely pose a risk, just because it’s an R rated Deadpool and most comic book movies aren’t, but we just think it’s a phenomenal opportunity and we’ve got a wonderful star in Ryan Reynolds and a wonderful director in Tim Miller and we’ve got some wonderful test footage that he did for it. The script is sitting there, we just want it.

Paul Wernick: We really tapped into the character. They say, “write what you know.” It’s ultimately a self hating….

Reese: (Laughs) Exactly. “An irreverent, vile lunatic.”

Have you talked to Mark Millar at all about it?

Reese: We’ve been in touch with Mark, because he’s come on as a consultant for Fox, so we are talking to him and we are….

Wernick: We are beating that drum. It’s the one project that we are so passionate to get made and we are doing everything we can. We have a few tricks up our sleeves still.

Reese: We are living a game of thrones, or trying to.

Wernick: You can find the script online actually. It leaked and there are downloads that you can read it yourself.

And you guys are fine with that, because you’re happy with it?

Wernick: As fine with that as we could be.

Reese: We really couldn’t be. I mean we didn’t have a choice. It leaked and we couldn’t do anything about it and for a minute we were appalled and then the reaction was great, so we were excited and now I guess it doesn’t really matter.

Wernick: Wait until you’ve seen Tim’s test. It’s brilliant.

I really, really liked Smashed. I wanted to love it, but it kinda felt incomplete. I mean...it's a simple movie. It's her Half Nelson. And that trip they went on was :wow: |I...I just kinda wish it was a little more than just snapshots of those moments. It feels long for such a short movie, but they really needed to show the AA stuff. The actual process of her sobering up. Like I get it if it would've cost too much for all those actors and the time it'd take to shoot that, but it kinda just felt like she bought the sobriety upgrade from The Sims and kept it truckin... And hell, the movie was only 80 min long. You add that, and it just rounds it out, gives it more weight and connects the first part to the rest of the movie better.

****, I'm basically just saying it was so good, I wish there was more of it. :lol:

There a lot of rooms, a lot of situations, a lot of moments and a lot of relationships that are empty and jagged without alcohol. And sobering up to them can be just as painful as the things you were doing to yourself when you weren't sober.

Ron Swanson and Megan Mullaly killed me, though. :nerd: "moist" :lol:

Yeah that's the one. It's worth it if you want more Duane Jones, if not though... I'm not sure.

you're spot on - Mary Elizabeth Winstead if she was a bit more well known would have gotten an Oscar nomination. She was amazing
