Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Just saw Sunshine by Danny Boyle. All I can say is the last half of the film is not cool. Not cool at all.

What a waste.:smh:

That's the reason I still haven't seen it haha

If you want a good low key sci fii movie that doesn't have a terrible ending watch moon or dark city.

I really need to force myself to watch brazil. I keep putting it off year after year and it's never on television.

Anyone watch Doctor Who? It's like a kinda a mix of Back to the Future, Sliders, Quantum Leap, and X-Files.

I got into it right when Matt Smith became the new doctor, cuz I had a friend who told me I could skip watching X amount of seasons and just jump in there. That was season 5...which was classic beginning to end. Season 6 was pretty awesome too. Not a bad ep between them...

Season 7's almost over, and I think I've liked 1 episode. It feels like the show is dead. If you had told me Steven Moffat (showrunner) got that Dan Harmon from Community NBC treatment, I would've weebey'd and kept it moving. It looks the same, but this show is heartless now. It's like they ran out of ideas. And everyone is just a robot, going through the paces. It feels so false and forced like they're trying to make me not like any of the characters. And I guess it didn't help that Karan Gillan left halfway through, cuz this new chick is just a plastic manic pixie dream girl snark machine. They basically made a girl Doctor, cuz more is more, right?

It feels like Doctor Who got too popular and now every episode has to be a big high concept thing. You can tell they got a bigger, nicer budget, but they're aiming for the easiest most pop things. All their ideas are played out and generic, when it used to be so damn creative and particular. It used to be this...kinda soulful, upbeat horror sci-fi adventure show about the ways this sorta Jack Sparrow character could make real connections to desperate people in impossible situations. It was a show Joss Whedon would've made. Now it's just a shiny wax museum. They sold out. Or is it just me?

The first episode of season 5 for 24

It's the most awesome season of all of 24.

|I I remember trying to laugh off the ending after I made my friends go see it. :smh:

It's still my favorite Danny Boyle movie, though. More than 28 Days or 127 or Trainspotting.

Sunshine was a trip man. I don't think anyone saw the complete shift that movie took. I thought it was pretty cool.

I liked Sunshine but agree about the last half. It's seemed almost as if someone wrote the first half of the script & someone else wrote the second half. That movie could've redefined of the sci-fi genre. I loved the tech that came up with for the movie though.

I just think it's a beautiful film. I loved the dialogue. Loved the visuals and ideas behind it. And that score is so forever.

They just couldn't make...it...look right, or slide in better.

Scarlett Johansson To Lead Luc Besson's Next Action Flick 'Lucy'
NEWS BY KEVIN JAGERNAUTH
APRIL 26, 2013 9:18 AM

Remember when Luc Besson said he was retiring? That was pretty funny (and short-lived). Dude has never been busier and is a mogul now, first and foremost, at the head of the very successful production house EuropaCorp. And the Besson brand, for better or worse, now stands in for mid-budget action fare like "Taken," "Columbiana" and "Lockout" that even if they don't do well in theaters, don't cost much to make, and tend to have a long shelf life. And while as a director he's currently working on "Malavita" with Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer, it looks like he's ready to return to his familiar milieu of women kicking ***.

Besson is lining up his next action flick, entitled "Lucy," and has snagged Scarlett Johansson to lead the movie. Besson penned the script as well and it follows a woman who is forced to become a drug mule -- okay, sounds fine -- who finds the substances have entered her body instead -- okay, interesting -- "transforming her into an ***-kicking machine." What. The. ****. THR adds that additionally, she'll "absorb knowledge instantaneously, is able to move objects with her mind and can't feel pain and other discomforts." So drugs turn a young woman into an X-Men member? Cocaine is a hell of a drug.

So yeah, this kinds sound of bonkers and perhaps a bit dumb, but it sort of fits Besson's new mold of sorta high concept, no brain action flicks. He did make a stab at a prestige pic with "The Lady" a couple years back, but that didn't quite work out, so perhaps he's returning to the wheelhouse he knows will succeed. But another opportunity to watch ScarJo bust some heads is still an intriguing prospect, so we'll see if this premise just isn't a gender-switched "Crank" or something.

I'm still a little salty over you making me watch Sunshine with an ending like that. On the flip side though that was the first movie I saw with Rose Byrne so I aint that mad.

I was reading MTV ordered a pilot episode based on the Scream movie series. I'm by no means a horror fan but I've always had a soft spot for Scream especially the first movie and that song Red Right Hand :smokin After the pile of crap that was MTV misfits I don't have a lot of faith in them.

You guys should check out BBC series Orphan Black...holy **** its entertaining.

I love BBC style of shows. It ***** on the US imo
I'm watching the 3rd ep of Orphan Black now. I'm digging it and Tatiana is fine as hell in this with all these different looks.

Premise reminds me a bit of Akumetsu.

After watching two eps of Defiance I don't know why SyFy okayed this as a series. Seemed much more like the B/C grade movies they tend to air.
When you guys finish the latest ep. (#4)  I have a question about the clones...

After Scream 4, no thanks.

Starting watching Heroes and I'm really enjoying it so far. I saw a couple episodes when it was still on tv and like what I saw but could never keep up with it. I know it's supposed to go down hill after the first season but the ride so far is fun.

^hold on to your hat friend, the wheels come off that series rougher than anything i've ever seen

Channel 4 Series Utopia (Curtis from Misfits is in it)

Season 1 was great although the finale was a letdown imo. [br][br]Anyone watch Alphas? Looked similar to heroes and its on netflix instant.

Not a bay fan, but I have a feeling pain and gain is very good. The story itself is just insane

I thought doctor who is like 30 seasons?
It is but I assume at some point different companies bought it and they restarted the numbering.

Really though, who doesn't know about Doctor Who? I usually just don't have the time to keep during the season and every now and then check in and watch a whole season in one go.

It's right up there with Fast and Furious.

Trash.

Wassup?

So weird, just got done watching Fast & Furious from start to finish for the first time. I'm in love with Jordana Brewster :smokin Gotta get to Fast Five before the sixth one comes out.

^ Geez man... Look at my last sentence. "Before the sixth one comes out." WHERE ARE WE AT IN HOLLYWOOD!?

Wanted to watch a movie before I started drinking, so just popped in Five Minutes of Heaven starring Liam Neeson. It's somewhat of an unheard of IFC Film, but it won the directing award at Sundance a few years back. Anyone seen it?
