Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

So JJ Abrams came up with a list of "big words" for Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto to use during pressers & the publicist has been keeping score (in an effort to have fun). So far Quinto has been kicking Pine's butt. Check out the interview below & watch Pine kinda smile, look off, & snicker whenever Quinto drops one of the words into conversation...

Some of the words - recalcitrant, superfluous, propinquity, mercurial, demulcent, euphonious, & pureic...

That was hilarious. Chris Pine almost lost it a few times, definitely some fun stuff!

The problem with network TV shows (aside from them having to restrain themselves), is that ABC/CBS/NBC all pull the plug on a crazy number of shows each year, and why get invested OR even try one out when you know the trap door gets pulled on most.

JA, I've seen Silver Linings Playbook. That and The Hunger Games is where I'm collecting all this hatred from. Some of those pics someone posted from the Winter's Bone JLaw era... That's something I can get on board with. :smokin

When Quinto says propinquity at the 1:16 mark, you can see Pine looks off camera & say Jesus F****** Christ...

I'm not sure how I feel about going to see the Tom Hanks Captain Phillips movie. I feel the pirate situation isn't fully understood by the western world & I'm afraid that movie will white wash the facts.

In a nutshell, the whole reason why the pirates exist is because European & Asian (& American too but mostly the former) companies have been dumping toxic waste off the shores of Africa effectively killing marine life & fishing.

The Somali fisherman started attacking the boats years ago in an effort to stop the boats from dumping their crap. The fisherman then went to the warlords to arm themselves as the boats starting coming more & more & the warlords were like, wait why are you coming to me for guns & arms?

The warlords then starting having the fisherman rob the boats as well as holding them hostage for large ransoms. It's a little more complicated than that, but that's the jist of the whole situation.

I hope whoever is behind the movie tells the whole story. It would be a shame to see them portray the Somalis as simply thugs or something...

Getting down from my soap box now...

I love docs of all kinds. Can't wait to see Venus and Serena. I think these ladies are under appreciated. Whats the likelyhood of one family producing stars of their caliber that ranked #1 like they did & won as much as they have?

Jack Reacher

I had seen enough in here to know that it was not what was to be expected, so I was ready for a unique twist to it, and sure enough that's what I got.

Loved/hated the opening scene. To the point where these days, I hope some dumb **** don't try to do stuff like that. But in terms of just the movie universe, yeah, that was tense. The fact that they refuse to show that final shot, each time.....even in movies, that's just gut check right there.

I don't get why they tried to portray 1988 Tom Cruise. He's not Ricky Martin anymore, why all the ladies insta wet when he walk by? He's 5'6", calm the **** down, he's workin with a 4 iron at best, Brett Favre ain't eem worried about ol boy. I was annoyed with all the breathless looks right away.

Did like the dailogue, especially his humor to the bimbo. "A hooker woulda got the joke.....straight face"

He literally, brought a knife to a gunfight. C'mon man. Too smart a movie to be funny like that, that part should have been taken out. Very clever, smart, tense, shot well, don't screw around with jokes just cuz, be better than that.

Just now while I was typing this, I did elbow block, swing down, chop. Just like Tom. 42 times, in 2 hours. That's how you have to fight when you're five foot four.

I'm getting a little bored with the I'm cool, just casually stroll thru the yard with guns blazing, fight as many guys as I want without blinking, calling my shot before I do it, I know the answers before the question is asked, etc etc etc. As good as this movie was, they could have cleaned it up, made him a realer person, made it even MORE tense with the slight chance he could be wrong, or off a little, maybe the 5 victims didn't have any purpose, etc, without him already knowing the answers without even knowing their ******g names. :smh:

He turned a corner, and fired a shot thru her hair. She ain't freak out.

LOVED the Duval combo. Days of Thunder all over again, liked that.

Very interesting story, loved the way they told it, the examples, the backflashes to the victims while still in the present, the images, just wish they cleaned Tom's character up so every single female wasn't reaching for her panties or so he didn't know every single angle of an equation he wasn't even paying attention too anyways. I get it, he's cool, and he's good at his job, so am I, I still have to be real about it.

Blondie made me think of another movie she was in that this felt similar, Fracture. Gosling was Jack Reacher, but taller, and no elbow blocking. Blondie gave it up to Gosling, and desperately wanted to with Tom Cruise, but he's only 5'1" so he passed it up. He passed up the cute young chick too. He seemed to like Duval tho. If not for the random broad in the thong in the beginning, which could have been a man, Jack Reacher could have a sequel called Jack Reach Around. Just saying.

8/10 Possible sequels, but I hope they don't. Let this one go Hollywood, solid film, leave it at that.

I can't remember the last Julia Roberts or Meryl Streep movie I wanted to watch, but this looks not that cringeworthy. Interesting mix of middle aged white people. And John Wells gets the co-sign for Shameless and Southland.

idc what anyone says, both of them are my favorite actresses and I will be seeing that based off the fact that they're both in it. I catch heat about liking them so much all the time

I saw the first trailer for that doc a short while ago. I'll definitely watch that.

ONeg,
August Osage County looks like it has a great cast. The old broad from The Americans is in there. I guess she can't really look to different in another role. I love Sam Shepard too... He's a bad ***...

I can't remember the last Julia Roberts flick I liked but Meryl Streep is an American classic for me. There is no other actress that can transform herself into a role like she can.

I liked It's Complicated & The Devil Wears Prada. Believe it or not, Bridges of Madison County is one of my favorites (partly because of the John Coltrane/Johnny Hartman soundtrack). The performance from Eastwood & Streep is gut wrenching.

Just remembered Doubt.

Damn good for what it was.

...

Apparently Chloe Moretz is gonna play a teenage prostitute in the next Denzel flick, Equalizer. :nerd:

I can see a guy getting teased if he says he likes Streep, but she's one of the greatest actresses of all-time, so who cares if you're a huge fan.

I think the first movie my parents took me to was Kramer vs Kramer with Dustin Hoffman & Meryl Streep (yes I'm old). Even though I was young, that was a moving flick.

40 sec UK spot for Man Of Steel just hit. Shows a little more action...

IDK if I said this in this thread but people will not enjoy jack reacher if they hate tom cruise.

They were trolling when they showed that movie poster of jack reacher holding a gun.

It should have been a knife.

Jack Reacher is awesome if you leave your logic at home.

Chloe Moretz cast as the female lead alongside Denzel Washington for The Equalizer
After a strong reading with Denzel Washington, Chloe Moretz is getting the offer from Sony Pictures to play the female lead in the drama that will re-team Training Day tandem Washington and Antoine Fuqua.
Moretz is a surprise choice to play the role of Teri, in that the role was originally drawn for a twentysomething. After Moretz did a chemistry reading with Washington, he was very impressed as was everybody else, and the role will be redrawn for Moretz to play a young prostitute, reminiscent of Jodie Foster in Taxi Driver.
Deadline

I'm a huge fan of Moretz's, so her teaming up with Denzel is pretty great.

Streep can play Batman and pull it off flawlessly with another Oscar.
points to whoever knows where that quote is from
